First two drives for Oregon--Indiana had a chance to force them 3 and out blew it

Consider this:

Indiana went 3-9 in 2023 in Tom Allen's 7th year as HC. Cignetti replaces him. Cignetti leads the team to 11-2 in 2024 and is undefeated (so far) in 2025/6.

With a fraction of the budget of PSU, Indiana is on the doorstep of a national title. The quote from Top Gun Maverick was, "It's not the plane, it's the pilot." To paraphrase, 'It's not the school, it's the coach.'

So Cignetti is the only coach in the history of college football that could do that? This is the worst thing that could ever happen because now fans of every mediocre school will think they’re just one coach away from winning it all. If it was just the coach, multiple schools over the years would have been able to do what Indiana has done.

Bryant Haines is going to be a HC in 2027--Indiana should enjoy him while he's there

100% agree.
I’m in the IU camp for the playoff, but it will be the worst thing for the game for the reasons you stated.

Cignetti was a WVU QB from 1979 to 1982. Wherever he goes, he wins, and is only getting better. Funny how JMU hired him after he ended their historic win streak. His coaching career spans:

1983–1984 Pittsburgh (GA)
1985 Davidson (QB/WR)
1986–1988 Rice (QB)
1989–1992 Temple (QB)
1993–1999 Pittsburgh (QB/TE)
2000–2006 NC State (QB/TE/RC)
2007–2011 Alabama (WR/RC, under Nick Saban)
2011–2016 IUP (HC,53–17)
2017–2018 Elon (HC,14-9, historic win @ JMU)
2019–2023 James Madison (HC,52–9)
2024–present Indiana (HC, 25–2)

He's a winner. Pure and simple.

IU gets points on this drive and receives second half KO. Score to start second half and this could look like the Alabama game.
As I type, they score again.
Honestly, I’d use my TOs if I’m IU and get the ball back before half.
