Matt should run while he can. The gap between the BIG and SEC vs the mid 12 and others is going to get wide fast. Going to be hard to compete for players with the resources in Ames.
Pete Thamel reporting He Gone.He didn't wanna stay for another Pop Tart Liberty Bowl against Tulane or Memphis?
I don't agree. The players he recruited at Iowa State and the players he will have at Penn State aren't on the same stratosphere. He beat us regularly, unfortunately, with the scraps that were willing to go to Ames. He will do great at PSU and probably beat us every time we play them.I don’t see him lasting the life of his contract. He was already their 10th option so they had almost no choice. But getting Iowa level results (which is what will happen) at PSU is unacceptable to them.
He was 3 - 6 against Kirk. See 2021 when they had "the TEAM" with Purdy and all and we wrecked their little celebration in Ames. He had a starting NFL QB on that team and lost to the poor lil Hawks with Spencer Petras in Iowa State's own house on one of the biggest days in their historyI don't agree. The players he recruited at Iowa State and the players he will have at Penn State aren't on the same stratosphere. He beat us regularly, unfortunately, with the scraps that were willing to go to Ames. He will do great at PSU and probably beat us every time we play them.
You’d think he bring least half of them. Has a ton of guys from Nebraska this year. I’m very intrigued to see who on current roster stays or goes with. Assume lot of Iowa natives stay put.if campbell goes to isu i have to imagine psu’s 2026 class will be isu caliber. and isu’s class gets destroyed
two of our opponents thus get worse at the same time?
Why would you assume that? You think kids are just going to commit because of the brand? Looks like 2 kids are committing because of the brand this season. PSU hasn’t been relevant for a national title in decades. It’s becoming the new Nebraska. The fact of the matter is he’s a coach who hasn’t coached a nationally relevant game in his career at a school that will put 10x more pressure on him to win than he’s ever had in his career.I don't agree. The players he recruited at Iowa State and the players he will have at Penn State aren't on the same stratosphere. He beat us regularly, unfortunately, with the scraps that were willing to go to Ames. He will do great at PSU and probably beat us every time we play them.
He is obviously a very good coach. I bet he'll last quite a while at Penn State.I don't agree. The players he recruited at Iowa State and the players he will have at Penn State aren't on the same stratosphere. He beat us regularly, unfortunately, with the scraps that were willing to go to Ames. He will do great at PSU and probably beat us every time we play them.
3-6 is not regularly lol. He did get 3 of the last 4, by very narrow margins.I don't agree. He beat us regularly, unfortunately, with the scraps that were willing to go to Ames. He will do great at PSU and probably beat us every time we play them.
What are you talking about Franklin and Campbell are major douchebags. I hope he takes the job because it's going to end ugly for him and the pedophile UniversityValid points.
I think he takes it for the following reasons:
If Campbell is offered this job and doesn't take it, I don't see him ever leaving Ames.
- Uncertain NIL/revenue-sharing money at ISU
- Ability to compete at the highest level (every coach believes he is good enough)
- Franklin got fired for being a jerk as much as losing big games. Campbell is much better at building relationships and program culture.
I could also see this whole thing being a smokescreen for another candidate.
I thought he did a good job getting the most out of ISU that he could. He made them relevant (at times) and somehow he was able to recruit some very talented players (Purdy and Becht come to mind).Great hire for PSU that their fans won’t like. But kudos to Matt Campbell for being the first ISU coach in quite some time to get out of Ames while he could.
I thought he was going to be yet another one to stay too long and become the villain in the Cyclones story.
Uh noI don't agree. The players he recruited at Iowa State and the players he will have at Penn State aren't on the same stratosphere. He beat us regularly, unfortunately, with the scraps that were willing to go to Ames. He will do great at PSU and probably beat us every time we play them.
They won’t have the revenue to keep up even in the crappy big 12. This is a glorious day. Clown U is definitely going to tank now. Love it.I love it. I hope their program goes into turmoil for a good decade. Their 2026 season will definitely be a **** show.
He beat us regularly? Why don’t you investigate things before you spew it. You just lost some credibility with me. You’re that kid who makes **** up. Camp was 3-6 against Iowa. Ding dong.I don't agree. The players he recruited at Iowa State and the players he will have at Penn State aren't on the same stratosphere. He beat us regularly, unfortunately, with the scraps that were willing to go to Ames. He will do great at PSU and probably beat us every time we play them.
PSU was a missed fg away from being in the national championship game last year just about as relevant as you can get, actually. Why would you assume that? You think kids are just going to commit because of the brand? Looks like 2 kids are committing because of the brand this season. PSU hasn’t been relevant for a national title in decades. It’s becoming the new Nebraska. The fact of the matter is he’s a coach who hasn’t coached a nationally relevant game in his career at a school that will put 10x more pressure on him to win than he’s ever had in his career.
He gone. This is the first time I think ISU is in real major danger of losing him.
I feel bad for him.#1 recruit from Iowa for the 2027 class recently committed to the Cyclones.
Will Slagle.
Important edit: I don't want to leave out the part where I mention his Dad and Uncle apparently played for Iowa State.
