They hired The Fonz?

They hired The Fonz?
Uh oh ISU
AgreedI can’t think of many reasons why Campbell wouldn’t take this job opportunity.
High expectations from fans/media, that’s about it. Maybe has a better chance at CFP in a weaker league.
Going to a better league that has a much better TV deal(financially sound program), better recruiting grounds.
This is the first time I think ISU is in real major danger of losing him.I can’t think of many reasons why Campbell wouldn’t take this job opportunity.

Geez. Dont you think he and his family are set for life already. He has to have made at least $30 million just at ISU, how much does a family need. I mean really, think about it.Agreed
Even if you only get three or four years for the money, they’d be throwing at him and a buyout he’d be set for life and then some

People who retire at 60 and have made good money and saved and invested might have let's say $2 million and if they are insured to cover their health and liability and are not going to spend like crazy they should be set for life. Heck, $2 million just in CDs at a modest 3% is going to make you $60k per year, plus Soc Sec or some other pension

Meh Iowa only lost one recruit to ISU this year that they offered. Their class looks really underwhelming.Who can Iowa flip once the entire recruiting class and Roster is freed to transfer due to a Coaching change![]()
He sees the money deficit that Iowa State is headed toward.I can’t think of many reasons why Campbell wouldn’t take this job opportunity.

Which recruit was that?Meh Iowa only lost one recruit to ISU this year that they offered. Their class looks really underwhelming.
Seems like there was just an OL that chose Iowa State and Iowa had offered.Which recruit was that?
Maybe a recruit from Minnesota?Seems like there was just an OL that chose Iowa State and Iowa had offered.
I have said repeatedly that these coaches like to build a program and especially win titles. They are paid to win as Kirk gets more money for wins, going to bowls, etc. And they want and even need the recognition of being the champ. If he is already set for life, then let’s put the money part aside.
Then we have job security and less expectations in a small pond.
vs
The chance to see what he can do with better players, more money for NIL, etc. on a bigger stage.
Guess we’ll see what he values more.
#1 recruit from Iowa for the 2027 class recently committed to the Cyclones.Maybe a recruit from Minnesota?
Not seeing any Iowa preps who chose ISU over Iowa.
ISU did not get many Iowa preps.
It is his next step up the ladder. It is hard to keep ISU at a top rated level and he saw how he didnt have the depth this year to withstand losing just a few starters.Campbell should absolutely take this job. Great coach.
Don't leave out the part where you mention his Dad and Uncle both played for Iowa State.#1 recruit from Iowa for the 2027 class recently committed to the Cyclones.
Will Slagle.
Agree if Penn St ends up with him after this disaster that would be huge for them.Campbell should absolutely take this job. Great coach.
Maybe a little bit like Ben Jacobson with UNI basketball. It is his next step up the ladder. It is hard to keep ISU at a top rated level and he saw how he didnt have the depth this year to withstand losing just a few starters.
He was in the MAC, then Big 12 which while he was there without Mizzou and TXAM and now without TX and OU so it is not considered a really top conference and he was middle of the pack this year, so the next step is big time near blue blood level Penn ST in one of the two top conferences.
If he gets offered the job but doesnt take it then I think he likes being comfortable in a lower level conference at a team that is not expecting the big time
They won't have much patience. He already has earned enough money so his grandkids won’t have to work a day in their lives.
this gives him a better path to playoff.
only downside is fan base thinks they are Ohio St.
True. But it’s getting embarrassing for Penn St. whoever their next coach is can probably get an insane buyout written in.They won't have much patience.
Matt Campbell with higher-caliber recruits, and more NIL, could do some damage in the Big Ten. If he's offered, I can't imagine him turning this opportunity down.I don't think I take it if I’m him. They just fired a winning coach and he's safe and has it pretty good at ISU. Guess it just depends on what he finds important. Definitely going to attract higher caliber recruits and a higher paycheck at PSU. Definitely would not have the job security and there are a lot of serious programs to compete with in the B1G. He's great for ISU. He might not be great enough for PSU.

Great opportunity for Jamie to force the donors to pony up if they want to keep Campbell and get more money into the program with better pay for him as well as staff, plus more in NIL contributions. Or he has to look at PSU.I don't think I take it if I’m him. They just fired a winning coach and he's safe and has it pretty good at ISU. Guess it just depends on what he finds important. Lost cause, and I bet Jamie's time there is rapidly approaching the final year.Great opportunity for Jamie to force the donors to pony up if they want to keep Campbell and get more money into the program with better pay for him as well as staff, plus more in NIL contributions. With his comments about being the best version of yourself last year or the year before over winning championships, which is bunk to me, not sure Campbell is the right fit for a team that fired their coach for not winning championships in the B1G or National. It will be fun to watch the meltdown from both sides if he leaves from ISU fans and PSU fans if he takes the job.
if campbell goes to isu i have to imagine psu’s 2026 class will be isu caliber. and isu’s class gets destroyed
two of our opponents thus get worse at the same time?
ISU fan base will meltdown if Richie Valens leaves for Ped State. Hopefully he can find an orthodontist out there too but HV is in the middle of nowhere so I highly doubt it.Campbell would be dumb not to take this job. He knows he's probably going to lose to Iowa 60% of the time for the rest of his tenure as long as Ferentz is there, and he's probably bottom half NIL budget in Big 12, and bottom third or worse recruiting grounds.
Iowa State's only hope to make the playoffs is to win the Big 12 or maybe a year where they beat Iowa and go 11-1 but lose in Big 12 Championship game, they could have a very outside shot at playoffs.
At Penn State, he'll probably have a 70% or higher chance at winning their toughest non-conference game, they'll have a top 30% NIL budget, much better recruiting base, and he can probably lose 2 B1G games and still make playoffs.
It's a no brainer for Campbell to go to Penn State. Good riddance with his ***. This will help Iowa Football.
And let's not overlook Penn State's experience with hiring coaches from Iowa State. There wrestling program has been dominant now for almost a decade. I think this is happening, Campbell will be the next coach at Penn State.
I love it. I hope their program goes into turmoil for a good decade. Their 2026 season will definitely be a **** show.ISU fan base will meltdown if Richie Valens leaves for Ped State. Hopefully he can find an orthodontist out there too but HV is in the middle of nowhere so I highly doubt it.
