Ball hasn’t even left Marks hand yet. DB was sitting on the route.

That picture right there is the perfect illustration of how bad our route concepts are. And this is by design. You have two receivers essentially running routes toward or inside the hashes at the same depth. I mean, they are going to eventually run into each other running horizontally across the field. Frankly, there are three wide receivers running routes at the same depth and the linebackers are just sitting there daring Gronowski to throw over the middle. Then you have a fourth receiver running horizontally two yards past the line of scrimmage. As you rightly pointed out, the DB is already jumping the route as Gronowski is in his throwing motion.

I don’t know how the hell anyone expects a quarterback at Iowa to be successful when those are the routes Iowa receivers are running. And yes, it happens often based upon the replays I see.

Why use the picture as a basis for your comments?

You've been telling us your opinion of the routes for years, knowing darn well their unfoldment downfield can't even be seen on the TV broadcasts.

But then again, you're the guy that posted your opinions to a large group of the public last season, without having even watched the games

The ball is NOT in his hand.

And the DB's first step forward has not yet hit the ground
You guys are splitting hairs. The ball just left his hand (shadow), the DB is clearly moving on the route. Look at the lean of his body. Regardless, our passing game sucks (and has for some time) and it's crippling the offense.

what really pisses me off about the entire situation is that you played an FCS school the week before your big in state rival that should allow you to get the passing game humming.

But no, you only throw it 16 times and run it 53 attempts.

That's just awful coaching

We should have tossed it all over Albany and got our guys some confidence but instead we play bully ball and did absolutely nothing to improve the one area that needs the most help.

Time to go Kirk!

According to some ( and one of those was a guy who laughed at your post) we didn't feel the need to let ISU see what we had and Gronkowski looked good on his last 5-6 throws ( for 30 yards) before he cramped up. And then they also felt the need to say our backup should also do nothing but hand the ball off the entire rest of the game as their was no reason for him to get used to real game action either. Worked out pretty well.

Well, I was the only one to give a laughing emoji to said post.

And I haven't said any of those things you are attributing to me

You mean like a double move? Like the one Klatt was shocked Iowa hadn’t ran all game? Yeah that would’ve been neat to try.

Too sexy. Too backyard football.
Sorry, but that would have required Wetjen being able to have even run the single move.

I'm surprised to have seen Wetjen on the field, as a receiver, as much as we have.

I'm guessing it's been to balance out tendencies, which allows him to be on the field for the jet sweeps and "now" screens.

I get the "big play" value that Kaden brings with the jet sweeps. But it seems Lester’s enamorement with the big play has already come at too big of a price.

I'd love to be proven wrong. But I believe Wetjen fell because he lacks the fluidity to run good routes. I believe there are better route runners that need to be on the field

This is what drives me crazy. I talked to people after UAlbany who were happy, talked about how we ran for 300 yards!! When I pointed out we threw for only 50 on an FCS team they dismissed it. And look where that got us.

It’s awful coaching. And frankly not even close to the Ferentz Iowa program I loved. We were never Oregon but we were a balanced offense. The past 5-6 years, if we have ANY offense it’s only rushing the ball.

it’s like the forward pass has been outlawed.
