When it comes to pointing the finger of blame.....it goes directly to the Ship of Fools (OGBOT). They lobbied for sanctions and the NCAA obliged.
What the Fools didn't anticipate was the outrage from the alumni and fanbase. So they hired Freeh to produce "the desired results." Don't you recall Suhey saying in essence the BOT saved football because hugh violations were about to be revealed? LOL, not a stolen paper clip.
Sweaty Surma, Karen with the flies on her, Spuds, Frazier (who screwed Vioxx victims and families out of millions), Tsar Ira the Terrible, Judas.....I could go on....
bottom line, we can stop blaming the NCAA for what happened at PSU. Every BOT and administration in all NCAA investigations have fought back.....all but one.

I agree, but as I’ve said in the past, the buck stopped with the ncaa. They knew their bylaws. They knew what was and was not in their purview. emmert had such an ego and was so consumed by making a statement, that he ignored the obvious, meaning what the ncaa was allowed to do. He ignored ncaa bylaws and handed down ridiculous sanctions to PSU. Of course, it backfired, and the ncaa ended up walking back the sanctions — scholarships and bowl games restored early, wins restored. emmert ended up looking like a fool.

Has the ncaa ever walked back sanctions with any other school? This was embarrassing for the ncaa.

Even if PSU asked for the sanctions, the ncaa had the obvious responsibility to refuse since the allegations were of a criminal nature, not a compliance nature per ncaa rules.

PSU‘s leaderers and the ncaa were both wrong. In the end, we learned that the allegations towards PSU and the football program amounted to a false narrative perpetuated by the irresponsible media and, sadly, not refuted by PSU. Still, the ncaa had no business getting involved.

I don't neccessarily disagree. However, it was the BOT responsiblity to protect and defend PSU.....certainly more so than the NCAA.
I agree that Emmert is an A$$hole who wanted to swing a big dick. But hiring Freeh was purely the act of the OGBOT. Allowing him to have a news conference and express findings there, that his report didn't substantiate was all the fault of the BOT.
The reality is that Freeh found "no smoking gun" and only the alumni trustees fought to make that fact public.

And you have seen exactly this with other schools since - Miami, UNC, and now Michigan - their stewards, even when dead *** wrong and guilty - put up a fight at every turn while ours thanked the NCAA for its infinite wisdom and mercy and were grateful for the punishment.

A bunch of the team that won the natty was recruited when scUM was making in person visits during covid when most other schools were playing by the rules.

So they cheated to close on kids to get them to become "Michigan Men" in the first place, then cheated again for those kids to get them the plays their opponents were running.

Eff scUM and the skunk weasel they rode in on.

Money...this is why it was funny when a couple people believed these sanctions would have an impact on recruiting. Doesn't matter at all. Recruiting is now about playing time, ability to prep the player for the NFL and NIL.

Michigan only wins if they cheat. They said so to the NCAA.
Their coach is a lame duck.
They can't have you on an official.
They can't communicate with you.
They are on probation. You could be at a school that gets banned from post-season or worse even after further minor infractions.

There is no spin. That's all facts.

I'm no fan of the NCAA and it's evident they have less authority than even a decade ago but Joe Bar stool has no idea how this works. The NCAA lawyers get what they can get when they get it. I would have preferred a one-year postseason ban added.
