Draughn spreads you out they make you play man on man.......they find weak spots on a defense and don't get in a hurry......plus Dula going to get his carrier behind that big line when Tillery not picking you apart.
How is Draughns defense..we keep hearing about the offense..Can you deal with a smash mouth team with speed.
Draughn is 9-1 and appears to be a product of a weak schedule. Only quality win was Mitchell at 7-3. They scored 514 points against teams with a combined 21-69 record. They beat 7 teams with 0-3 wins and the loss was to a 3-7 East Burke team. Time will tell if they survive the second rounder against Mitchell.
Wow...I will give you credit for the weak schedule comment but the only part of the schedule we can control is games 1 and 4. 2 of our non-conference games are set every year (In county: Patton and East Burke). That 4th game would normally be Freedom (another county foe), and not lowly Highland Tech, but for the last 2 years we can't seem to get them to play us. WHC for the most recent time has been a top heavy conference (Mitchell, MH, Draughn or Draughn, Mitchell, MH). We play who they put on our schedule just like all teams.
That EB game is an anomaly, an outlier so to speak, and I could say we did not have several players because of injury, but those would be excuses. Simply put, we lost. EB plays in one of the toughest conferences in 2A against Maiden, Bunker Hill, Lincolnton, West Lincoln, etc. You get the picture. EB played Maiden tough before losing 47-27, lost to Bunker Hill by 4 but led most of that game and lost to Lincolnton by 4 and led for most of that game. They are better than their 3 and 7 record.

You really are a dumb **** buzz. No Howie Surry beat them was stealing their signs. That's been admitted. That's why they ran their plays in the second half if you paid attention to the game you would have known it. Look what they did in the second half. Score in 14 against them in one half is pretty good nobody else has done it. Now Mount airy could have played better defense in the first half. That's for sure. You just routinely make *** benign comments. Keep sitting up in the stands and letting everybody listen to what a moron you are.
I would love for the healthy Mitchell team to get them again. They'll beat them up. And I don't know what you think you're going to do when you have to play athletes like Thomasville. Or Mount airy. Who shuts you down what 62 to 7. Was I believe a bunch of sophomores in the secondary. The same sophomores that are now juniors just like your good players. I'm so tired of hearing about that. I got to see that game. It was a destruction. There won't be that big of a turnaround.
This roughtrader sure is ruffled easily. Some people are just not enamored by Mount Airy. You would do well to act like your neighbors to the East of you in Pilot Mountain. They have the same amount of state championships you do (those old ones don’t count, sorry). I cheer for anyone in this area with the exception of MA, but I cater to some schools like West Wilkes and others who have a long history of losing.
Of course you do. I take up for them because my nephew plays for the JV team. I'm a card. I think we have a great chance this year but there's really never any talk about it on the two a board. I'm not really ruffled I just can't stand buzz.

Buzz is right about the passing game. What game have they been consistent throwing the ball? Since you are a cards fan go to the 2a board and answer the question about your running back. They were questioning why he hasn't played since the Mt Airy game
Not sure they will get by a fully healthy mitchell team if they are playing to their full potential. Just my opinion which don’t mean much.
Fair point and E Burke does play in a very good 2A league. I coached at Watauga against them when they had Leon Johnson in the late 80's. Over the last 35 years I have seen every kind of offense, defense. East teams, West teams, Mid state, Mountains, Piedmont, etc. I was responding to the comment of "spreading teams out and doing what they want to do". If Draughn proves to somehow be more athletic than teams like MA, Thomasville, ER, N Rowan etc., then I will eat crow and admit it. Until it is proven, I see them running into teams that can cover them up and shut them down in the later rounds. For a new school they are having good success and at 9-1 deserve respect for what they have accomplished. But winning against a fairly weak schedule and beating traditionally strong football teams in the later rounds of the playoffs are two different animals. Best wishes to all teams!
On a side note, I went to high school with Leon Johnson, I was a Senior and he was a Sophomore. Great guy and superb athlete. Probably the very best to ever come through Freedom.
I will never forget him running wild on the turf at App State. Our boys had no chance against him those years. Glad the boys in Boone have improved greatly since those days. East Burke had a really nice stadium as well.
Yes, Watauga has become a powerhouse. Coach Habich has done an amazing job leading that program. They have won the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference like 5 years in a row with a 5 year undefeated streak in the conference.

The middle of the field was open all night. Both Safeties were within 5 yards of the LOS and were also blitzing alot. Left one on one coverage on the outside and MA has some speedy WRs. Easy throws but I was happy to see us passing some.
