Christian would shred Jacksonville up like a pan of greasy hash browns at the Waffle House. You’d be lucky to get one first down.

I haven’t claimed anything come on guy can’t you read? Simply that they on that night apparently had the better defense. Can you disagree with that , fact???

Who am I to say.....nobody really, but I know CC will take away the run and force Jacksonville to prove they can throw the ball. Jax better not be planning on running for 400 yards in order to win.

Make no mistake about it- I want Jax to run for 400 but it isn’t likely to happen.

Jacksonville does not have one player of Mike Hughes’ caliber and he only managed 80 yards.

As I posted earlier, it is unlikely they will run more than 50 plays and it will be difficult to gain rhythm and flow.

If Jax turns the ball over more than once they have 0 chance.

Sounds like I am a CC fan but I definitely am not. I want Jacksonville to win but without the ability to throw the ball I am not holding my breath. My earlier point was that teams can throw on CC but Jax’s passing game may not be up to the task.

I really hope I am wrong.

Seems to me the teams that faced CC were passing teams and relied on the pass all year to win games. QB centered offenses, so they went to their strength to win. They had success passing because they had success passing all year. Problem is, passing teams don't eat up the clock like running teams. They don't wear down defenses.

JHS has a similar concept. They run the ball and CAN eat up the clock, but they usually scored so quickly running, that they allowed a lot of posessions for the other team to score, so their defensive numbers weren't as good. If CC forces them to avg. 4 -5 yards per carry instead of their regular 9 ypc, then they will just have longer, more time consuming drives. But, they will still run the ball and eat up clock. They will not resort to passing more than running or passing a lot.

Based on the strengths of both teams, this should be a lower scoring game, with each team running the ball and eating clock. The only questions will be, who can sustain drives and who can limit turnovers. If they can both sustain drives, it will all come down to TO's, like i've said from the beginning.

When you play Pop Warner teams most of your schedule that “similar concept” is so easy to observe and makes you feel unstoppable but what do you do when the Rottweiler shows up and shreds your plays before they ever leave the backfield? Guess we’ll find in a few days, like I’ve said from the beginning. Lol.

Everything clip of film that I have seen clearly shows the speed, aggressiveness, discipline and great techniques that CC plays with so I’m not about to take any phase of their game lightly.

I think if each team executes well then we are in for a great game. Yes, TO’s and ability to not only sustain drives but finish with scores will be the key. Nothing leads me to believe that either team will implode due to a couple big plays and their will be a couple big plays.

My opinion isn’t worth much but I do believe that CC is beatable. A team with good physical back(s) that just keep wearing you down and can get 3 or so yards per carry and a disciplined defense is what beats them in my opinion. Example I remember when crest went to catholic two years in a row and Ledbetter seemed to beat them single handled. A team that can pound the ball and play D is what i think will beat them again this year. I think this game will be a lot better than people think.

TOs and defensive stops will win this game! I also think a big special teams play will play apart in determining the winner as well.

Your talking about games and teams from 8-9 years ago and those were great Crest squads. NFL and College talent on several levels.

The Catholic teams of the last 3 years especially this one is entirely different. Offense much more diverse and size and strength difference is off the charts. Those Catholic teams were smaller and threw the ball 6-8 times. Mostly TE drags or occasional seem route trying to catch teams sleeping. This is a completely different animal. Much bigger and stronger along the lines.

Yeah from the looks of it CC played a real tough schedule with the likes of those powerhouse Piedmont,South Meck,Ardrey Kell, Parkwood, Cuthbertson football factories. So go ahead with that weak schedule BS

That’s the problem for Jacksonville. They’re not even going to average 4-5 yards per carry.

Bulldog it doesn’t matter what anyone’s opinion is about CC. If you are not praising them and telling them how great they are your wrong in their eyes. If your not all warm and fuzzy about what passCC teams have done in the past your wrong. Nobody can beat them. They have the greatest defense in NC high school football this year regardless of classification. Jacksonville will be lucky to get 1 yards rushing Saturday. Heaven forbid we complete a pass in their eyes. What we will do is make the trip get off the bus and go straight to the ceremony and just give them the win. No need for our guys to put the pads on. We will do that then jump back on the bus head on back to Jacksonville. As Ms Suzuki said come back to our base and do some drills. After all our kids should just be happy to be there. We don’t deserve to step on the field with the mighty Cougars. The nerve of us. Smh

I go to sleep and this thread gets two more pages long...getting hard to keep up guys come on now lol
Come on coach. Your fan base seem to think you guys won’t have to play Saturday. I mean hell we have given y’all nothing but respect as a program yet that’s not good enough for them. We are supposed to just lay down. Won’t happen Saturday and won’t happen on here! Hey can y’all give us a fair shot just take a couple of days off from practice. You only need a couple of walk throughs according to some of your head cheerleaders Athletes Foot and Ms Suzuki. Be safe out there in that snow. Wish your kids a safe week of practice. Looking forward to see if we can compete on Saturday.

Not at all. I just consider the source of yalls comments. I was getting bored but couldn’t figure out why. I know now. We spent the whole week before the finals hearing the same stuff from the Havelock. I understand now. You can mock other people’s screen names, but I can’t mention the base. All I said was to go back to the base and do drills. Is that what the marines or any branch of the military do? Yes it is. I didn’t demean what they do. I didn’t make fun of the base or the branch of service. So don’t be a baby and say I dissed the military. If you can’t handle what I said, you have no business being on this board. Now back to football. Is CC beatable? Of course they are. They’ve lost this year. Every team is beatable. Can anything happen with high school kids? Of course it can. But you have to look at probabilities. What is the probability of Jacksonville rushing for even 5 yards per carry? Not that much. What’s the probability of Catholic shutting out or totally shutting down the Cardinals? Again not so much. You get to this point all the teams are good. Make fun of CC’s schedule all you want. But you’all see no 2A teams in that schedule. You’ll see probably the best private team in the state that would handle most teams in NC, including Jacksonville, in Charlotte Christian. You’ll see 4A teams along with 3A teams, like Weddington, who’s playing this weekend as well with only one loss (20-0) to CC. Is Jacksonville good? Of course they are. They’re playing Saturday. But don’t think they’re going to come into that game with CC and average 9 yards a carry. They’ll have some success running the ball. But it won’t be continued success the whole game. CC? They’re not the strictly run the ball team they’ve been in days gone by. They mix in the pass very well. Is CC’s defense the best in the state across classifications? Not sure about that. But having seen them, I believe it’s a top five defense and certainly the top defense in 3A.

Btango, who I respect more than any poster on these boards, has been silent since early on in this thread. Maybe he respects the excitement of Jacksonville but believes what the western posters are saying. Where are you Btango??

I have seen Catholic scrimmage once and play twice (Sun Valley and Weddington). The defense is as advertised. Linemen are bigger than I have seen there before and they are quick and agile. The LBers will fill the hole quick and are good on the read and can drop back. DBs are smaller but athletic and are excellent tacklers in open field which is something I have seen drop off over the years in the game. I agree the D is the best I remember Catholic having. The front four is elite. LBers are aggressive. DBs are fundamentally sound and get to the right spot.

On O, Catholic will run their double wing using various formations and can pass from it. The QB is not going to make many mistakes and they will eat you up underneath until you commit and then catch you deep. The receivers are really good at finding the seam almost sneaky and if the ball is near them they are catching it. Running backs are where I scratch my head a bit. Big back is tough but runs a bit upright for my taste. Seems to decoy a lot with the dive and does lead block some but does not seem to be a battering ram at that. The smaller, scat backs are quick and hit the hole low making them hard to find but are not top end burners. With that said, they continuously have the ability to get big chunks of yardard.

Defensively, Jacksonville cannot get beat vertically over the top. Once that happens it opens up the offense. They have to defend the intermediate pass and cannot let Catholic receivers get lost in their coverage. Stopping the run is rule one but Catholic is a complete package. Being aggressive is what I like but overcomitting can allow big chunks. Have to fight the blocker off at the point of contact and make the play there.

I have not seen Jacksonville play since the 1995 4A state title game. Nearly went up for the Havelock regular season game. Cannot remember where I opted to go that Friday. Jacksonville has a solid group of veteran coaches and I expect them to be fully prepared and have a winning game plan. The question is can the players carry it out satisfactorily. Can the linemen give the backs space. Can they stop the penetration of the Catholic D line. If Jacksonville's back can get through the first line and have space that is where they will cause damage. It all starts with the O lineman beating his defender and moving the LB out. That type of space allows the top end speed to make big plays.

Personally, I expect Catholic to control the line of scrimmage and limit the run game which is the way they will win. If that starts breaking down due to Jacksonville's O linemen winning that first contact the game changes.

I saw them twice as well against Sun Valley and Kings Mountain. I didn’t get into all the x and o of the games. But this sums it up very well.

I am curious to hear from some of the Catholic guys. Has CC played anyone in the last 2 or 3 years that use these extra wide splits that Jville does?? You just dont see that much in Meck County. The only team I have seen recently that I can recall is MiddleCreek.

That’s the problem for Jacksonville. They’re not even going to average 4-5 yards per carry.

And that's where you're wrong. They'll get that average because they will break off a few 25+ yard runs and they'll get to the house on those runs. I'm telling you, if Graham Brinker gets past your D line, he reads space and follows blocks better than any RB i've ever seen. His vision is remarkable and he's hard to bring down. Then, he puts on the afterburners and it's over.

Watched CC play HH and KM...CC's defense is as good as it gets. CC could win any classification this year...KM and HH are two VERY good teams but CC made them look bad at times. CC makes good teams look like they don't belong. I would love to see CC vs. Vance or WF.....my money would be on CC.

Catholic offense isn’t explosive enough to keep up with Wake or Vance imo. Even with a great defense, you still have to score. Last years team would be better for CC. They had one of the most explosive underrrated backs in the state.

You know what. That is a great question. Their schedule is garbage lol. But Heritage is a pretty okay team and the put numbers on the board against them. So idk.

I’ve watched them play on hsot a couple times and they do look really good. I guess we’ll truly find out this weekend.

I noticed that watching that game. Even at that the Mounties had a little but not much success running the ball.

dominate front seven for CC is an understatement lol...can't see a team scoring much on CC unless they have a very mobile QB and a huge - dominating - powerful OL. The CC defense slowly breaks the other teams will/desire to win. It's just a methodical butt whipping. Good luck to the Cardinals

Well there you go Jacksonville fans. It appears the key for the Jax offense will be giving the backs some room and stop penetration so they can do their thing.

I have watched a little Jville. Its a fun offense to watch. Lot of speed and the QB handles the pitches well. You can see the explosiveness. The issue is gonna be upfront. #6, #45,#46 and #33 just so much bigger and stronger than that Jville Oline. 210lb offensive tackles are gonna have a nightmare with King and Coss.

The key to that offense is making the inside stuff work so they cant widen those LBs to play the pitch stuff. I just dont see them getting anything between the tackles.

Now don’t get me wrong. It very well could be that explosive. I don’t know because of who they play. But it probably is.
