But did he stare at a fastball right down the middle the pitch before?Nimmo can’t play center a few times a week ??
Glad he has a single but Vientos just swung at a pitch 3 feet outside AND 2 feet low for strike 3
I think you may get your wish soon. The Syracuse team used to be owned by the Mets, and was given the Mets name. However, last year Cohen sold the team (while maintaining the affiliation agreement) to an independent consortium. Would not be surprised if the name is changed next year. Unless the sale agreement includes a contractual term that the Mets name is to be retained.I still think they should be the Chiefs.
Have a Mets patch like they do in the AHL and ECHL. But keep the local and traditional name
Think that’s why the Cyclones are sporting a new look too.I think you may get your wish soon. The Syracuse team used to be owned by the Mets, and was given the Mets name. Vientos is starting to pick it up? I must be watching different at-bats. I guess in between all of the strikeouts on pitches way out of the strike zone he did hit a 3 run homer off Amed Rosario.I’m just enjoying this team. Every time we have a game that brings us down, we follow it up with something good.
And seeing Nimmo start to get hot, Soto on his way to being Soto, Lindor/Alonso playing at MVP levels, Vientos starting to pick it up. Acuna staying hot and top it off with McNeil and Alvarez hitting.
If pitching holds up- this is just fun.
Every time I hear his name I think of Tidewater. This should enable the Mets to bring up Tidwell as 27th man without having to demote anyone.
Wanna feel worse? (I can be sadistic at times.) Back in July of 2021, when the first place Mets inquired to the Cubs about Javier Baez, PCA was not the guy the Cubs wanted in return. The guy they wanted was Matt Allan. Mets basically said no, he is untouchable. Cubs then asked for PCA. Mets again said no. Cubs offered to sweeten the pot and add Trevor Williams. Mets then said yes.Feels like we lost the PCA trade![]()
Ok Zack Scott.Wanna feel worse? (I can be sadistic at times.) Back in July of 2021, when the first place Mets inquired to the Cubs about Javier Baez, PCA was not the guy the Cubs wanted in return. That is how the sausage was made. The sausage tastes terrible.
A couple of other thoughts:
1) Both Allan and Crow-Armstrong were injured at the time. Crow-Armstrong's shoulder injury was considered a possible long term concern.
2) Javier Baez actually held up his end of the trade quite well. His Met OPS was .886.
And maybe Tidwell wasn’t just ready yet as well.Tough loss today. Game turned on the 3-2 pitch to Alonso. Looked to be slightly off the plate, but too close to take. That said, I look forward to the day when "too close to take" is no longer a thing. It's either a strike or it isn't.
My macro-level takeaway is that when you are relying on a guy to be your ace, and that guy can't pitch on the same rotation protocol adhered to by just about every other starting pitcher in MLB, it will occasionally bite you in the ***. Today was one of those days.
The PCA trade was not awful at the time. And while I am not Zack Scott, I will die on that hill.Ok Zack Scott.
The trade was awful at the time and looks worse with history.
It was awful at the time and I called it. I said Zack Scott because you regurgitated what he said about the trade as well. Everyone knew deGrom was not coming back that season and trading a first round draft pick prospect was an overpay for half a season of a hitter like Baez. It also proves the point that Baez did but well and we were still no where near a playoff spot. The PCA trade was not awful at the time. And while I am not Zack Scott, I will die on that hill.
On July 30, 2021, the Mets led the NL East by four games. Their goal was to win the World Series. They thought Javier Baez could help them do it. And he did hold up his end of the bargain. Not his fault the rest of the team tanked with a 22-41 record down the stretch.
In 2021 Pete Crow-Armstrong was a good but not great prospect, with a MLB Pipeline target score of 50. Meaning, he was projected to develop into an average MLB starter. Great glove, good stick, below average power. At the time of the trade, he was damaged goods.
Some guys meet their projections. Some underperform, some overperform. PCA looks like he will overperform, big time. Good for him.
We Met fans can look forward to potential CFs like Jett Williams, Drew Gilbert, Carson Benge, and Nick Morabito. Perhaps one will overperform. If so, hopefully it will be the one we don't trade. Because you KNOW we're going to trade at least one of those guys. Because that's how big market teams win titles.
He got burned by a combination of things. A few untimely walks, the leadoff single to center that Azocar froze on and allowed to fall in front of him and Contreras on 2 occasions getting soft hits on pitchers pitches by just making contact. Did he pitch well enough? Not at all. But his bottom line would have looked a bit better with better fortune. And maybe Tidwell wasn’t just ready yet as well.
Admittedly, I only looked at the box score.
