The A's and Yankees teams of the 1970s had a lot of guys who hated each other. And they won five world series between them.
True, but baseball is different. If Reggie Jackson and Thurman Munson hate each other, who cares? They can play an entire nine inning game without ever having to interact on the field. Whereas if hypothetically (and I'm still considering this a hypothetical) the RU point guard and wing forward hate each other, it could manifest itself on the court.

I believe if Geo returns that his roommate, Johnson also will. It would be wonderful to see these guys return next season as well as Young and see them play before sold out crowds and have a true senior send off for all of them. They can only play college ball for a short time. They might as well enjoy anther year playing college ball. They all will be successes in life in whatever field they go into. I can see Geo some day returning to RU as a coach.

Stanford pulled his scholarship offer when he got hurt in HS. Would you go back to someone who, when you were down, they chucked you out with the bath water?

This is probably irrelevant, but I once knew a gentleman whose daughter was an ace at a sport (I forget which one, maybe soccer). She got a scholarship offer from Stanford, but turned it down because she got the impression that Stanford (spelled Stanfurd by we Cal grads) was interested in her only as an athlete, not as a student. Maybe that's false; didn't both Holloway and Cory Booker go to Stanford, and graduate although they were never starters?

I think he values the Stanford degree more than anything else.

If you turn down the opportunity to earn a Stanford degree because you’re holding a grudge then you’re a potato
Ridiculous statement, especially after they dissed him. I could have gone to any eng'g school in the country and chose RU. I could've gone to any eng'g grad school in the country and I stayed at RU. People have don't always make decisions that others think might be obvious Myles is very happy at RU. If he stays great, if he leaves good luck, but I guarantee you it's not a no-brainer for him to leave, given what he has invested here. Also, why would he want to take a major step down in basketball to go to Stanford, especially if Geo and/or JY decide to stay?

Easy new guy. I enjoyed the heck out of this win. Still on the boards to read about it a couple of hours later.

Man. People on this board are crazy. Take the scarlet glasses off and admit that RU and a school like Stanford are in completely different leagues. As someone who works in tech I can tell you with certainty that a path to a $1M/yr tech job is much much easier from Stanford than RU. It’s not to say it can’t be done, but there’s a reason that there was 20 Stanford/Berkeley/Harvard grads for every RU grad. In fact I think it was only me and one other. Caveat being that I worked at one of the top tech companies, but still.

I think the best lesson from @RU848789 's and @ouchmyknee 's posts is that there is no right pattern for everybody. It depends largely on where he wants to be after grad school and what he wants to do. If I were he, I wouldn't put nearly as much weight on basketball factors. Basketball is something he can play at a high level for at most two years; his career and where he lives are much more long-lived decisions. BTW, Stanford *is* a member of a P5 conference, and is a place that cares about sports. He's not taking such a great step down by going there.

Agree with CamdenLaw. I just think it’s silly when everyone claims they picked RU over Harvard. Listen, I went to RU over some much better schools but it wasn’t by choice. They just decided to give me a full ride. I’ll gladly admit that.

Numbers, I say this with all due respect, but it has to be said. You trying to argue against this is at the same level of people wanting Butch Jones over Greg Schiano.

When Stanford shows up on a resume, it pops off the page. When Rutgers shows up, it’s okay, Rutgers, great engineering program.

Not true in every field. I've said this dozens of times, but Merck has what is widely acknowledged as the best chemical eng'g R&D dept. in Pharma (you'll have to trust me on that) and RU is one of our core schools for recruiting chem E's, along with Cal, MIT, PSU, Illinois, Delaware, Princeton, Michigan, Purdue and UVA. Geography helps a little in that as RU isn't ranked quite as high as those schools, but RU grads have done very well there over the years.

I spent my last 12 years or so in our chem eng'g dept (of about 125) on the senior staff and of the 8 or so on the senior staff, it's generally been 3-4 RU grads, so RU grads have done disproportionately well compared to grads from those other schools (with several going further to VP roles, including my boss for my last 5 years, who had an RU PhD in Chem E and is now a VP and is part of our tailgate crew). I always wanted to stay on the technical side, so I didn't climb as high as I could have, but it had nothing to do with what school I came from - that's a non-issue once someone is hired - performance is all that matters. Retiring comfortably at 57 wasn't a bad outcome.

Very obvious Geo is gone. Kid has money on the mind and Europe or China will pay him something.

Not sure where the Myles and Stanford rumor came from but if he can go there for free and get a grad degree, yea, that’s a no brainer.

Does Mathis like anyone?...I don't think I've ever seen him smile.
I guess you missed all last season, the smile at the tv camera etc....BTN announcers noted he had averaged 15ppg first part of season before disappearing. I think his break out game with Harper hurt, was the worst thing to happen to this time. right after that I felt he started trying to be the man and do crazy things, all of which led to his current butt splinters.

THIS,,,, makes no sense for GEO and JY to stay if they can get paid overseas...If Myles can get into Stanford or Cal, its also an opportunity that is too good to pass up. Whether they end up here or not next year, fans should be thankful for all they have given us, and hopefully building the foundation for years to come
I hate when Rutgers people say things like this.
We are a great Uninversity and Stanford and Cal are no better.
You can do anything you want with a degree from Rutgers.

No inside info at all but if you read between the lines it seems like the kid is really hoping for a favorable outcome on the NCAA rule changes on profiting off his own name as an RU player. At least that’s another way of looking at it.

I will not argue that Stanford is a better school; however, I believe Myles’ resume is stellar enough that it doesn’t really matter. If he is dead set on moving to the Bay Area then the networking may be worth it. The fact that people here are just tossing aside the fact that RU is a better basketball program, one that believed in him when others didn’t, and that he has built 4 years of relationships with students and professors is ridiculous.

This thread should be locked for being so dumb...

Saying “I hate to post this” but not actually posting anything all is just dumb. Hey guys I am really smart I saw something just wanted to see if you saw something. If not just guess what it is. Either way I am not telling you. Just idiotic. Grow up.

Secondly Stanford is better than RU. That is ok. Myles is one of the few who has the option. That is a good thing.

Third, who cares if Mathis doesn’t smile or doesn’t jump up and down like Paul? Paul and Mathis are two very different people. Why can’t Mathis just be a reserved guy while Paul is out there towel waving. Every team I have been around has had some teammates who didn’t mesh personally. There were groups of guys who were tight with each other. The best part is it doesn’t matter. Regardless of personal relationships this time has a very high probability of going to NCAA tournement...

Do you clap and go crazy congratulating a guy at work who gets promoted over you or gets a big deal done that you weren’t apart of or has a big sales year? Sometimes you are just happy for a guy say good job and move on.

Every Cal grad, including me, is used to the reality that some people like to make disparaging remarks about it that have no basis in fact. Rutgers grads should be equally used to such remarks about Rutgers, an underappreciated school.

I wonder if getting named B1G defensive POY might be a factor in staying.

I have the think the decision isn't binary, it is a combination of hoops and academics. If he cant get noticed at Rutgers like that maybe he realizes his basketball career may take a hit in the PAC12 (conference of champions)

Who cares? Maybe they don’t like each other. As I mentioned in another thread in our college baseball team we had guys that hated each other and wouldn’t root for the person and we went to a national championship game.
And The Oakland A's of the early seventies who won 3 WS in a
row. They all hated Reggie but they were too good to lose
