I don’t know why he is ice cold but I think if we got him the ball moving toward the basket he be back to doing well.

This group of starters gets no dribble penetration so the defense is never out of position. Couple that with our “offense” only being mostly on ball screens he never has the chance to do that.

I have noticed he seems to have the opportunity to get closer to the line in obvious catching positions but when off ball he seems content to take longer shots but I don’t think that’s the biggest reason just an anecdotal observation

You play exactly like you practice, if practice is run properly, demanding and with pace.
If Pike is happy with open look 3s playing against his scout team that answers your question

They might make the 3 pointers in practice.I keep hearing during the radio broad cast how well the players are shooting 3 pointers prior to the game and during shoot arounds earlier in the day.

When a player is struggling, you run some sets for him to possibly get a layup or a foul. We used to run an alley-opp for him. So much of this game is mental. As quick bucket or two and often you will have a different player and shots will start falling.

He’s looking so lethargic, I’m not real sure he could get up there to receive the pass and make the dunk.

The only bright spot for Ron lately has been foul shooting. Maybe he can build on that.

Yes, but we are <50% on layups. (Ugh)
Can't be confidence builders...

Completely different player now. Where's the confidence, the swag? Where's the ball fakes, drives, strong finishes at the basket? I agree he looks like he's in better shape in this video. He's moving quicker instead of moping around the court.

How can you get out of shape training and playing during the season? That's gotta be freaking hard to do. Does he have a medical issue. Is he depressed? Absolutely looks like he has no confidence.

I think it’s mental and maturity. He had success and teams focused on him his production dropped off which is understandable but the shooting is a mental issue. He’s hitting he’s free throws so I suspect the threes are just a confidence thing. Time to be a man Ron!!

Maybe he is still nursing a bad ankle and doesn’t practice full court as much or hard as much because of it . That’s my only guess how you can get out of shape during the year and lose all your explosiveness

Been saying for weeks Harper is somehow out of condition. We all can see by his movements he is no where near what he was back in December to mid January. If he is still injured it could explain a great deal of WTF . The mental side dealing with injury could take a toll. I still think Baker has slowed as well. And I believe the Twitter backlash has caused a lot of his up and down play.

Well if he is then someone needs to say so. Or maybe they’re just spent after all this past years COVID BS

It was the ankle injury. Even though he returned after one missed game, we have no idea how much practice time he continued to miss to rest the ankle. For some kids it can make a huge difference in conditioning. I also don’t think JY is finishing quite as well in transition as he was before the OSU injury (and he’s the kind of player who gets frustrated and wild). Those two things are the biggest factors in the decline.

slow and out of shape

before the game they showed Ron shooting an arrow after hitting a 3 the first Maryland game and his body then vs now is noticably different
If he’s been playing even with a minor injury then he’s not going all out in practice. He’s getting treatments and he’s doing whatever he can to be on the floor. Easy to gain weight and get out of shape in that scenario. Not sure why this is a discussion anyway. To me the biggest issue is we don’t have a true 4 or even a guy to spot him at the 4.He’s playing the 4 which means he’s not as much of a mismatch down low but he can be driving the ball and taking 3’s. If he was playing the 3 spot like last year then he’s a big mismatch down low.

Yes, completely different player.
