As of today just 6 million Americans are fully vaccinated. That is terrible.

You can't look at that number and make a determination about things. There are a LOT of people refusing to get the shot. That number also has to be factored in. There have been articles out of LA that show 50% of healthcare workers there won't get it. I have 2 employees who have no interest in getting it at my surgery center. The black & latino communities are not lining up to get the shot either, as evidenced in Patterson, although there are tons of articles about this subject out there.

RC, it’s very clear the second shot has to be scheduled within a strict time frame... Moderna is within 30 days, Phizer I think is within 21.
How could that happen?
Gotta be a miniscule percentage hopefully

I would think that if people can't get the 2nd shot within a certain time, the first shot will lose its effectiveness

27 million White Bus. Be optimistic.
Optimistic has nothing to do with the value of the 2nd shot being what is really important. BTW do the math. 27 million in nearly 2 months. How long until herd immunity at that rate. Current 7 day average vaccination rate has been very steady for awhile now at about 1.3 million. At that rate it will take 11 months to get 200 million fully vaccinated.

I don’t believe it, but it is a very convenient ploy to not have to go back to work

So what's the hold up today?
Especially in NJ and NY ?

At this point people refusing it doesn't really mean anything because others are just taking their spot in line. Where refusal will really show up is when the number of completely vaccinated people just stops growing with plenty of vaccines available. Thats when it can be a very big problem if we are way short of herd immunity.

For the Moderna 12-14 days after first shot you should have around 50 -60 % immunity. As for second shot it is 3-5 days after you should be 90-95 %.

I have talked with many people that did not get their second appointment scheduled the day of their first shot. They are not happy they have to keep calling to get the second one scheduled. I went through RWJ and they had the computer in front of me scheduling my second shot. My mother in law was one of those that got their first and does not have a solid date for second. My wife works for RU and most of her co-workers got their shot through Middlesex County BOH. They did not get second shot date.

seems there's a lot of that going on in NJ:

Second dose of both Moderna & Pfizer usually have more reactions to include:
Arm more sore
Increasing tiredness
Chills
Headache
Less frequent: low grade fever
(I had Pfizer and had all of these symptoms except the fever)

Not everyone has a reaction and, if you have symptoms, except for the arm soreness, they are usually gone within 24 hours.

Friend's daughter, who is an MD on the covid team at a suburban Philly hospital, got a second dose of Pfizer early last week and had all the symptoms but chills. Gone within 24.

It happens due to confusion, and poor messaging. From the getgo nobody could definitively say that people getting Shot #1 were already allocated Shot #2. When supplies were running low out of the gate, there were stories of government officials just looking to vaccinate more people now and give more people some immunity than to hold those 2nd doses to give full immunity to the chosen ones. Then we were told no 2nd doses were being held back. Then Judy Persichilli herself stood up on stage saying oopsie, everyone who got a 1st shot should have automatically been scheduled for 2nd shot because their 2nd dose was already allocated to them.

Now imagine working on the front line at a vaxx center with such cloudy direction from above. I'll guarantee their software didn't have a requirement to schedule a 2nd appointment before clearing the patient to leave.

No its not. After one dose you can still get it or can still infect others. There are 2 doses for a reason.

Do you expect people to get their second shot before the 3-5 weeks they need to wait? 27M is the number that counts most when you’re talking progress.

27million is not the number that counts. In the end what counts is how many are fully vaccinated. Right now that number is 6 million. Meaning 19 million are waiting for there 2nd dose. The number that shows progress is the 7 day daily average of vaccinations. We have been stuck at 1.3 million daily vaccinations. Divide that in half as you need 2 shots. Its not an impressive number at all. That is January of 2022 before we reach 200million fully vaccinated

Is this just a California thing? In those types of numbers?
Do you think it will become mandatory at some point in some work places?

There were anti-vaxers protesting and disrupting a mega site in California, I think in LA, over the weekend. I think Cali is "unique" in that regard.

The wild card in this is that we don't know how many people might have antibodies from infection but who never got tested because they had no symptoms. The herd immunity rate could be a lot higher than we really know so might not need 200 mil vaccinated before we see numbers go low enough to go back to pre Covid.

That what I hope. Crazy after what Californian went through you would think they would be crawling over each other to get the vaccines

Acceleration of vaccine rate will increase rapidly over next few weeks. Plus J&J will hit the market by March.

As a supposed civilized nation why do we tolerate these anti-vaxers?
If these idiots don’t want the shot that’s their business, if they attempt to stop others who want the vaccine they should be shot with a tranquilizer gun immediately
WTF....get these idiots out of the way

Exactly- many believe infected rate much higher due to a Asymptomatic folks not getting tested.

My company sent out a survey and 80% of the employees wanted to get it.

I got my vaccine through the VNA of Monmouth County, and they gave me my appointment for my second dose while she was registering me at my appointment for my first dose.

Ill give there was an improvement from December to January as you really couldn't be any worse than December's. However they have been stalled at the current daily average rate for weeks.
J&J is great as it is single dose. But making vaccines isn't the issue. Getting it into people's arms is the problem.

My second dose is barcoded in my phone, and I have a card with my return date on it. Before I left the site they told me to take a snap shot of your barcodes and this card just in case for back up

Not sure if this will help some of you. I used the RWJ site to sign up for vaccine. They will text and email you first saying you are the list and then you will get a message ( I got mine a week later ) to click a link and a list of RWJ locations will pop up and you choose a place that has openings. I sent this to my friends and family a few weeks ago and most of them now have appts or already have received their shot. Another positive is they schedule your second shot while you are there. Some locations do not do that. Good luck

registered my father ...

Well no crap people need both shots for full protection, but you can’t accelerate the 3-5 week wait time. Good thing is that a single dose seems to offer a good amount of protection.

As the supply increases, our daily vaccinations will increase. J&J will be approved in 2-3 weeks too. Everything is trending in the right direction.

Many on the board were praising Florida vaccine program but they have quickly fallen behind. Only North Dakota is over 85%.

I don't think anyone mentioned Florida in this thread

Now, they have done better than NJ but it's about NJ's poor vaccination efforts.

Be patient , that is the standard response. Keep an eye on your text and email and they will get back to you. Good thing is, once they do get back to you you can schedule the next few days and not wait weeks.

Either none s available or they say it's for 1st responders...who all should have had theirs by now.

I heard on the radio (not verified) that they don't expect first responders to be completed for months.

This could be at the very beginning of a logistical nightmare. 2nd shots will rely on facilities available, supplit's on hand, patients able to get to vaccination sites, and staff availability. Any interruption of those chains will start a cascade of problems. Throw weather (like the snow this past week) and all hell could break loose. We lost two complete days of second dose, community and employee vaccination days this week due to the weather.

50 percent of from liners and health care workers refusing.
I don’t believe it, but it is a very convenient ploy to not have to go back to work

As mentioned, it's not mandatory (yet). The convenient ploy by the employer will be if you don't show up, you won't be paid. Do it long enough and you won't have that job any more. Eventually the bills need to be paid and people have to go back to work. I doubt there is a high percentage of people who can sit out and not earn $$.

That doesn't matter they need the vaccine anyway because they are not sure how long the antibodies last; for that matter they are not really sure how long the vaccine will last will it require a booster every year? every 2? who knows

Supply is a much greater problem. We literally have mega sites just standing by waiting for doses.
Most states are saying they have supply issues yet only used half of what has been delivered to them. They are having internal distribution issues not supply at this point. Sending deliveries to Pharmacies is a complete waste at this time. They aren't set up to do a 100 a day. Go into you local CVS or Walgreens. How many people are working in the Pharmacy. 1 or 2? Have they made a large space to sit 6 feet apart for people to wait 15 mins post vaccination? I haven't seen any.
