The Cherokee County schools have a "huge issue" yet, but it is possible. They had several students and staff test positive so they used contact tracing to quarantine students and close classrooms. A few schools have been closed by the district because of the high % of students being placed in quarantine. The ones see huge issues are in places like Georgia where there are no face mask requirements.
We don't know yet how many other students/staff may have caught the virus from those came to school while infected. Until that happens, I wouldn't say that Georgia has "huge issues" or has been a disaster. If it turns out only a handful of others that were exposed test positive, and those cases are relatively mild, it is not a disaster. If it turns out a very large number of students are determined to have caught the virus in school and some of those students have bad long-term consequences, that's a different matter.
I live in a neighboring county. Our schools reopened today, 100% online. There is no announced timeline yet on when we might open the buildings again.
