The Big East is very relevant and not going anywhere, sure he can get paid alot more money to go to two of the worst jobs in the ACC and get fired after 4 years..why
So no one has ever took a worse job for more money before? It happens

Worst program in the ACC just beat #7 Duke. Must be nice to be that bad.

Why would a good coach leave a smaller conference where he’s paid less and practices in the basement of a gym built in the 1940s to take more more money in a better conference with better resources/facilities and a bigger operating budget...why? Why for a better job!

why should he though, he is in the biggest richest area in the country..why would he go down south in the middle of nowhere to be a speck on a pimple in the ACC while he is competing for Big East championships

the hatred for SHU has clouded judgments here..its a great gig

Kyk says a lot of things ...like pitino to seton hall thar isn’t happening ...but reality is wake forest and Georgia tech are better jobs in the ACC than seton hall. Both of those right now are better jobs thar rutgers too. Though pike and the school commitment is doing a hell of a job closing the gap quick

Wake and Georgia tech actually is a better program job than these schools in the big east : the hall, at Johns, providence, Georgetown (yes), butler and DePaul, creoghton is and Marquette in the ball park. Only nova is clearly a better job and program than wake and Georgia tech

Bac...i know why you are saying what you are saying...but it’s onky because Willard has done a heck of a job with limited resources and facilities. He has made that a legit 5 year in a row at large ncaa program. Its a place where the coach makes rhe orogeam. The program doesn’t make the coach. A wrong hire by the hall ...and they slip into the second division of the big east as a program. Like Rutgers is behind in resources in the big ten...the hall has to compete with nova,
Creighton, Xavier, Butler, ans maequette who are far more committed in facilities and funding than seton hall (and for that matter, at Johns, Georgetown, DePaul and providence )

Willards agent does his job and openly calls possible job openings on a yearly basis and let’s the whole world know about it. Last year it worked when he got a raise when the local press reported that he was about to sign with V Tech.

but he has it good where he is because he has made it for him a better place than Ga Tech/Wake who are dregs in a league that they are pretty far behind right now. Its 15 school league and the addition of Pitt/Cuse/ND didnt seem to make it better as its leveling off

Their facilities and campus are ****. And im not saying this biased but RU is the better option for a recruit/general student, but it comes down to whos recruiting. Pitino would eat pikes lunch head to head. But think about it from a student perspective. Theres veryyyyy few kids who would choose SHU > RU. SHU is a commuter school and a dead campus, RU is just alot better
I believe 60% of SHU students live on campus. Not sure but I believe I read South Orange is the #1 upcoming town in NJ.

Im hearing its something to keep an eye on. Apparently theres speculation in basketball circles that Willard had feelers put out for Ga Tech and wake forest.

Pitino would be a killer hire for them and being that theyre not tax payer funded they could get away with it without the political bs. Will be an interesting next month or so to see how this all plays out. SHU would be a legitimate powerhouse with him.

I know Hall has a much better basketball history then us and play at pro arena (good and bad) but how are their practice and other facilities? Are they realistically a better destination then RU for local recruits?
Yes

Full disclosure. I grew up an enormous SHU fan, uncle was the assistant AD back in the louie orr days. I served as ball boy for SHU. Did summer sleep away bball camp at SHU every summer, grew up 5 minutes from campus. Im very familiar with the campus. When it came time to apply for schools, i didnt even apply to SHU. Its a dead campus, dumpy, and has nothing going on around it, no on campus life. I might be conservative with this estimate but at least 9/10 jersey kids if given a choice to go to RU or SHU would choose RU. Basically anyone can get into SHU and its basically just commuters. I had a home body friends who went there and would come down to party at my RU house all the time. SHU zeta psi probably partied more at RU than SHU lol

I did a search for Pikiell in this thread. I found no match. Coach Pikiell is not a candidate at The Shoe if Willard departs?

I doubt Willard would leave but he is losing 3 of his top 4 players in Powell, McKnight and Gill. I think he likes it at SHU and he is loyal to the school.

Campus life and facilities, it's not even close that GT and Wake are better than Hall. I'd give the ACC the nod as a better conference. Theyve had 3 national champions in the last 5 years and another appearance in the final. Calling a conference weak because of a down year is like calling Hall a national power after 1 year in the top 10

Willard is already over 2 mil at SHU, making more than Pastner and Manning. Maybe you roll the dice with GT, but he's insane if he leaves for Wake.

Won't be surprised to see him leave, will just be really surprised if it's for either of those jobs.

If SHU opens up they should go HARD after Bobby Hurley and it feels like they'd have a legit shot.

If Willard leaves for any of the jobs mentioned he’ll end up in the broadcast booth in 3 years. Maybe he gets Raf’s gig when he drops the mike. At some point I imagine most college coaches think there has to be something better life wise.

I was just at Trader Joe’s. Rumor is John Calipari wants the SHU job because he’s still pissed off about the “sit in.”

Georgia tech and wake forest are absolutely better jobs than seton hall, but not to the point that Willard would leave a cushy job. Willard is beloved at the Hall and is basically guaranteed a job for 5+ years. Why uproot your family, change your kids schools, and take a higher pressure job when neither program really moves the needle.

Because his last cheat class is about to leave. The playing field is leveled once again. When it was leveled he was awful. SHU could very well be projected last place in the BE next year. He knows its time to be OUT and cash in at another place.

His last cheat class...you mean the top 100 recruit who came to school overweight with a broken ankle, the 2-star transfer from Sacred Heart, and the 1-star Juco recruit who wasn’t pursued by anyone else? Yes, that class is leaving

What is the general SHU board feeling on how SHU will do next season?

I am bias and don't like SHU, but I do think they will take a sizable step back next season

Yup, just ok. A few solid players coming back but a ton of question marks.

Kyk thinks seton hall cheats to get good classes when in reality, our recruiting is really mediocre and every single player on the roster is a result of development. There’s no one coming in next year that stands out so there will be huge struggles

Pitino had an affair and paid for the woman to have an abortion . Louisville has the strip parties for recruits . Listen I know big time hoops is shady . But this guy is a tough sell for a catholic school...well at least it should be

Just ask the pope what he thinks.......lol
