As you know those are ‘reported’ Attendance figures. Accounts for all sold, distributed, donated, Staff & Administration, etc. Far far from actual fans in the House unfortunately.

Weather now looking great for Saturday! Mostly cloudy, NO RAIN, mid to high 70s.

I always take summertime weekend forecasts with a grain of salt. I think the weather forecasting industry is a little too cozy with the tourist industry. Yeah ik that sounds a little crazy but I can’t tell you how many times in my lifetime I’ve heard something like “chance of showers” only turn out to be a total washout. It doesn’t happen that often but enough to make me suspicious.

Of course, I know that - everyone knows that, but all we ever see reported is the announced attendance (all tickets sold/distributed), so I'm guessing the announced crowds, since that's the data I have to compare to. The number of scanned tickets is typically about 65-75% of those announced numbers, depending on the game, although I think the scanned number under-reports actual attendance somewhat.

Thanks for making your point constructively, though, unlike WhiteBus, who we all know has difficulty playing nicely with others.

I just posted the first links in this thread to the major differences between announced and actual attendance and I don't get it? 40K was my guess at announced attendance, because that's the only number we usually get, so I was guessing at it. Man, you really are a dipshit sometimes.

You posted 2015, coming off a winning bowl game. You ignore the last 2 years of declining attendance and severe declining season ticket holders. Point to other non Labor Day home openers to support a crazy number. No surprise. Bad at weather forecasts and bad at attendance forecasts.
I thought you went to the other board BTW because of "loyalty " Some friend [eyeroll]

You need to read the weather thread - no rain is possible, but a few showers are absolutely possible and our fanbase melts easily. If the forecast the day before the game is drier and no rain falls before kickoff, I predict 40K. If the forecast remains iffy and there are a few showers before noon, then I predict 32K.

I love the melts easily part. I have often wondered what keeps the 10k away during rain. We manage to still have good tailgates and we have rain suits. It’s not ideal but I prefer it to 95 and sunny.

I posted 2015 because it was the last time we played a scrub team at home on the Saturday before Labor Day and we had 47K; since we're coming off bad seasons now and weren't then, is why I didn't predict 47K, but lowered it to 40K. And I also posted the 40K last year for Morgan State in game 3 after 2 losses. I'd like to think we can at least equal that when we're 0-0, if the weather is decent. And just for good measure we had 45K for Howard in our post-Labor Day home opener in 2016 after a bad loss at UW. Give up yet?

Looking at 22k is where I think we would end up, Labor day weekend is hard people are still on vacation down the shore.

Don't care. Don't care about the weather. We are going. We will arrive 30 minutes before kickoff, and we will cheer loudly when the team enters the field and on opponent third downs.

For those that care, the attendance will be better on non-holiday weekends, and against better opponents. Our group will arrive 30 minutes before kickoff, and we will cheer loudly when the team enters the field and on opponent third downs.

But I still will not care. Yeah, I cared enough to post, but the attendance-tards for a game like this leave me SMH.

Will laugh at the comments about the student section on Saturday, as they are not even moved back in.
No tailgating? That’s a waste of a good parking lot. [cheers]

Exactly. We need to reverse the alarming declines in Attendance since 2014. An energized start to the 2018 season is vital. The dropping season ticket holder base must be huge concern to Hobbs and his department.

Give up yet? You keep using #s from years ago. You do know that last year the avg attendance at Rutgers was under 40k for first time since 2005. I dont see the declining attendance trend stopping until Rutgers stops getting blown out and produces a major upset.

Year: Attendance (prior year record)

2018: TBD (4-8)
2017: 39,749 (2-10)
2016: 44,809 (4-8)
2015: 47,723 (8-5)
2014: 50,632 (6-7... 15th largest increase nationally, joined B1G)
2013: 46,549 (9-4)
2012: 49,188 (9-4... 8th largest increase nationally, also our largest jump in # of wins from 2010 to 2011)
2011: 43,761 (4-8)
2010: 46,195 (9-4)
2009: 49,113 (8-5... 6th largest increase nationally, stadium expanded)
2008: 42,378 (8-5)
2007: 43,663 (11-2)
2006: 41,113 (7-5... NCAA wasn't tracking largest increases this year, coming off first bowl since 1978)
2005: 33,184 (4-7)

When we saw our win total drop from year to year, we also generally saw attendance slip (except in 2013 to 2014 when we joined the B1G).
When we saw our win total increase from year to year, we generally saw our attendance bump up (except in 2009 to 2010)

We increased our win total last year from 2 to 4... but it's still just 4 wins, so it'll be interesting to see if that results in a bump (increased wins) or a drop (sub-.500 record). Hopefully 2017 was the bottom coming off a 2-10 season.

My guess is that this year's average attendance will end up at around 41K

I posted the one game, each, from the past 3 years, including last year, which seemed most likely to get similar attendance as TX ST, i.e., very early season games against very inferior teams that are not draws on their own. All three had ~40K or more people, with decent weather, hence my guess of 40K announced, if we have decent weather. Do you really think that's a bad guess?

Think 40k Announced might be a stretch .....even with decent low Temp / very slight rain forecast for Saturday.

I agree with numbers that the announced will be around 40,000. I am thinking the students will be there in good numbers as long as the weather is ok. No use fighting about it. We'll have our answer in two days.

As you know those are ‘reported’ Attendance figures. Accounts for all sold, distributed, donated, Staff & Administration, etc. Far far from actual fans in the House unfortunately.

When Rutgers joined the Big10, it was reported here that many Michigan, Ohio St. and Penn St. bought season tickets in good locations at Rutgers Stadium, just to be sure that they had good seats when their teams came here, in case of a sell-out. These guys might now be a sizable percentage of the season ticket base at Rutgers. What these guys do with their tickets to all the other games ?

33,000 announced: 19,000 in the stands. All teams play this inflated attendance game to charge higher cost for in stadium advertising. RU will never announce turnstile attendance.

Because they are paying for in- stadium signs, announcements based on fans in the seats not "inflated attendance " numbers.
No they aren't. The big money signage is what gets picked on TV, not what is seen or not seen by people in the stands. The big $ sign at Yankee Stadium is behind home plate. No one can see that in the Stadium. Plus every advertisor also gets in game mentions on radio and weekly radio shows. Its a multiple deal for sponsers. Look what High Point paid for naming rights. Its not a lot of money

Completely wrong. There are advertising signs all over the stadium, on the scoreboard that fans in the stands see all game. Think of all the signs around Yankee stadium that can be seen from all seats.

Students move in today/tomorrow and season ticket holders received additional free tickets for the game. Whether they are actually scanned on not doesn't matter--once they are claimed, they count towards the announced attendance because that ticket can no longer be "sold/distributed" by RU.

I'll go with 36,600.

In a 55k seats stadium id say it was about 60-65% full so that would be about 33k ? Pretty good for an opening day either way. Sidelines were packed and great student turnout and they stayed through the third quarter for the most part. For a team coming off 4, 2, and 4 win seasons it was a great crowd

You are joking right. The upper deck on the West side had maybe 500 people up there with a capacity of 5000. If the same with the East side and the gaps in the corners of all Endzones now way 33k. We had rows in our section 128 with 8 or 9 people. Should be better but it’s not.

Why doesn't the school announce tickets sold , given away, charity and then turnstile tickets?
