Did not see the play, but generally the foul or no foul decision is not reviewable. Unless:
- The play resulted in a goal
- The foul, if called, would have resulted in a PK and/or red card.
The official who does the “rules expert” flat-out stated that it should’ve been reviewed

So if this game ends in a tie Mexico can play Sweden to a tie and eliminate Germany ha ha ha ha
90 minutes of kicking the ball back and forth, lol - that's one thing I hate about group play is the possibility of this. And Germany knows this, which is why they're going to press with 10 men.
Unbelievable goal by Germany in the last minute of stoppage time. How the hell does Sweden only have 2 guys in the wall there? How? How?
The only time I watch soccer is when my youngest daughter is visiting. While watching the great ending of the Germany game we were debating the stupidity (my word) of stoppage time. Just stop the clock during the game. Why does it have to be a surprise at the end of the game that it’s not really the end of the game?
And Germany could have had about 2-3 more the second half. Just the way it goes. I've been amazed by the number of chances frittered away during this World Cup. At least most of the teams appear to be playing an open style.
This group is now in total chaos. No team has clinched; no team is eliminated. We could have a three way tie at the top, with a six point team being eliminated. We could also have a three way tie at the bottom, with a three point team qualifying. The tiebreakers could get very messy.
Underperformed may be harsh.

So last world cup (where they made the quarters losing to the eventual finalist 1-0) subtract 4 off those ages. And last Euros subtract 2 (maybe a slight disappointment losing to Wales but again a quarters run).
Vegas had them 5th favorite for the 2014 WC, 4th favorite going in for the 2016 Euros.
Personally, would at least like to see the clock stopped after a goal is scored until the subsequent kickoff.
And I'd love to see the ref have discretion for calling non-PK fouls inside the box if it wasn't a goal-scoring opportunity, like when a guy is dribbling away from the goal or is fouled just inside the box, but not about to shoot. I'd give them direct kicks from the spot of their choice outside the box. But I know I'm not getting what I want and pretty sure you're not getting what you want (I'd like to see them stop the clock, too).
Panama is ******* awful AND dirty. This could get really ugly in the second half. How the flying **** did we blow this??? SMDH
This is ******* ugly and Panama is a DIRTY side. Arena should Be ashamed of himself, for allowing us to lose the Trinidad and Tobago, I should every single member of that roster. What a **** show.
BTW - are we actually NOT going to offer the job to Tab or another former USA national team player funding great success at the coaching level, now, and instead going after Mexico’s Osiro??
Depends what you mean by "going after". I found the following quote in an LA Times article of May 26: A U.S. Soccer Federation spokesman confirmed Osorio will receive consideration as part of what was termed "a very wide search.” TBH if Earnie Stewart did not do that, he would be guilty of malpractice.
Have you heard any stronger statements about Osorio to US?
It is pretty much established that Osorio is done with Mexico regardless of how far they advance.
“Going after” is pretty simple...is he someone we have our eyes set on and would take, AS I STATED, over Tab??? “Guilty of malpractice”??? Okay....sure.
Sounds like the answer to your question is no. Stewart is properly casting a wide net. And yes, if Osorio is available, how do you not consider him? I am sure that Ramos is under consideration as well. Let it play out.
Couldn't agree more. The difference between fouled in the box and outside is monumental....decent chance to score vs almost a certainty. So the ref is reluctant to call it and real fouls go unpunished. Need that middle ground somehow. But, as you said, not going to happen. Amazing we got VAR.
Yeah, just watched that one on DVR, since we play soccer from 8-10 am every Sunday morning (I did record my first clean sheet in ~9 years of playing mostly keeper, as most games have 8 or more total goals so shutouts are hard to come by - was mostly great defense and midfielders coming back to defend - and @mildone missed it as he's out with a hamstring pull). England totally outclassed Panama. Too bad the England - Belgium game won't matter much, as they're both through, but maybe that'll make it freewheeling and more entertaining.
Well there could be incentive beyond the group but I don't know that there's a team you're head and shoulders looking to avoid in the Poland/Colombia/Japan/Senegal group in the next round. Besides that group is still a jumble right now with Poland/Columbia playing. Going further beyond that I don't know.
So much for that "#8" ranking. Colombia has looked better this game than their last, James Rodriguez with 2 nice assists on a couple goals.
If FIFA was serious about Dives, they should use VAR to look for dives. If theres an obvious one: RED CARD and a suspension. Enough with this shart.
I'd say Poland and Argentina are probably tied for most disappointing performances so far and Germany would've been in there, too, if not for their miracle winner at the end of stoppage time yesterday. Most impressive so far might be Mexico and France - hard to say Russia, Uruguay, England and Belgium have been "great" without having played anyone good yet - although their mostly dominating wins have been pretty impressive.
Not only was it dumb of Sweden to only have 2 guys in that wall, but I can't believe the guys in the wall didn't run out at the 2 Germans as soon as the ball was played from Kroos to the guy who set the shot up - might've made a difference, cutting down the angle. They all just stood there. Great goal, though.
Germany had many chances in both games. Just didn’t get the bounces. I wouldn’t say they played poorly in both games. Poland and Argentina did not play well in their games.
I gree with you on the non-penalty call. The Sweden forward was pushed by both German defenders and unbelievably no call. What the hell is the VAR for ???

That was a joke and my biggest gripe. The complete lack of consistency in tje officiating. The VAR has been completely useless.
