I'm an RU grad who grew up a PSU fan. I root for RU, but if I had to pick one it would be PSU all day. Function of the last 45 years I guess. I've stated that many times here.Isn't Diceman a Penn State fan?
Fair enough. You weren't specific in your post so I thought this was in reference to the kids that are leaving Jersey for Michigan, PSU, etc.MSU is a respected program who has been in the playoffs. If we have a better atmosphere then them then I say that's a pretty good thing. I've been to Michigan. Was underwhelmed. I've been to Maryland, it stunk. I've been to PSU which was very impressive.
What I don't get is why we are losing recruits to programs like UNC, NC State, BC etc. These programs don't have much at all over us besides them not being in NJ.
My feelings on the RU atmosphere:My point was Arkansas and Michigan fans said our stadium was very loud.
Va Tech has had that atmosphere for decades. We've had it for a decade. My feelings on the RU atmosphere:
Its 1000 percent better than my first time in the stadium (going on 30 years ago) but it is still too opponent or situation related. Which makes it like most every mid level place.
When you have atmosphere that makes people who are not RU fans, but college football fans, want to take advantage of the opportunity to see a game regardless of opponent - like Va Tech for a non cfb royalty example- then you have great atmosphere.
Every stadium is dead when the team is blown out. Maybe the only exception.is nebraska.----
I don't want to be a wet blanket, but we also have to look at a game like yesterday in its entirety ...... yes, the crowd was supportive, loud, made noise on third downs, etc....but as the game wore on the majority of the fans, students were gone.....all I heard for the most part, were a few MSU chants, at least in the section I was sitting.
if a recruit sat through the full game, he saw our crowd spirit early on, but all that
dissolving away in despair....... he gets both views of the program..... if the recruit were to visit another program where a game is close, fan support is consistent, possibly he leaves with a better feeling there....
but if we are going to tout our atmosphere, we have to at least consider how it appears at the end.
Forgot to mention I've been to UConn, Syracuse and Temple as well. There's a reason I forgot. All of them stink and can't hold our jockstrap.Yes. Been to UCONN, Syracuse, RU, Temple, PSU, WVU, Va Tech, tOSU, MSU, Michigan, ND, Florida and USC (for a Rose Bowl).
I wish the stadium PA would let the crowd be loud without blasting Mettalica, an air raid siren, and a faux heartbeat at the same time.Even with how empty the stadium was it was surprisingly loud on 3rd downs in the first half
Disagree the Metallica and air guitar is unique and very cool and gets the crowd crazy and loud.I wish the stadium PA would let the crowd be loud without blasting Mettalica, an air raid siren, and a faux heartbeat at the same time.
Disagree. Unlike other stadiums with their third down shticks, Rutgers fans are too busy doing the stupid air guitar thing to be loud. After the music stops playing, then the crowd start a going off when they could've been doing that from the beginning.Disagree the Metallica and air guitar is unique and very cool and gets the crowd crazy and loud.
Yeah... What he said.Playing Metallica is fine, but the timing is way off. They need to stop it a lot earlier so the crowd can get loud. It was a mess on Saturday. In general, the music has been very sloppy this whole year.
I think most would agree the team being bad has killed the stadium experience. No one would argue Rutgers-Illinois is some life altering experience. My feelings on the RU atmosphere:

After the air guitar part ends when the ref sets the ball, then the crowd screams. The timing is fine. By the time the qb hikes it, the crowd is screaming their heads off. It resulted in a handful of false starts.Disagree. Unlike other stadiums with their third down shticks, Rutgers fans are too busy doing the stupid air guitar thing to be loud. Its a moot point when you have to fight three loud sound effects going on at the same time. Agree to disagree tho.
Losing seasons has always been the main reason.... is pretty good according to MSU players and fans.
What exactly is preventing high quality recruits from wanting to come here. It's not the fanbase or atmosphere, or facilities.
Agreeing the music has been way off this year. DJ playing all the way up to the snap, which is ridiculous. Air guitar great, but the siren and the heartbeat is way over the top.Playing Metallica is fine, but the timing is way off. They need to stop it a lot earlier so the crowd can get loud.
