The Gong Show was groundbreaking. The result of massive quantities of drugs, alcohol and a blatant disregard for Network Standards & Practices.
He basically set the stage for shows like American Idol and The Voice. Of course, The Gong Show was way more entertaining and groundbreaking.

Rip Chuck...watched this show religiously as a child. They don't make shows like this anymore
Who knows? What a strange story line that was. Made for a great movie though. I regard Confessions of a Dangerous Mind as one of the better films George Clooney has made.

the guy was amazing, don't know where the inspiration came from but a genius- always wondered what his answer was on "the cia assisin" did he believe he was one and he was losing his mind, or was it a andy kauffman like joke

Rerun was never on the Gong Show.
But he could have given Gene Gene the Dancin' Machine a run for his money. Did not realize Fred Berry Died in 2003 at 52.
Did she ever do anything else but judge the Gong Show? RIP Chuck, funny man way ahead of his time.
She also appeared on a lot of game shows. The Match Game for one. Remember she was guest star on an episode of the Odd Couple, playing herself, singing the terrible song written by Felix, "Happy and peppy and bursting with love...."
So glad someone mentioned this. The sight of some silly woman with a bouquet including bunches of carrots crying while Rip Taylor sang how "you get flowers, and a dollar ninety-eight" was just awesome.
"The Gong Show" was the ultimate in guilty pleasures, and it gave Jaye P. Morgan something to do. Still remember one episode in which every contestant came out and sang "Feelings." The Unknown Comic, Gene, Gene the Dancing Machine ... just great stuff.

One skip always stuck with me...they of course had a time minimum before some could get hinged. One game came out and in country western sang "its been lonely in the saddle since my horse died"!and that was it. I don't know why that one has stuck with me for almost 40 years.
