While I certainly disagreed with her political positions, as a lawyer, I admire the vigor of her views and how hard she worked to become the second woman to earn the honor of being a Supreme Court Justice and the first Jewish woman to earn that position. God Bless.
There were several women candidates on Trump's list of potential replacements. I see no reason why he won't try to fill that spot.

Regardless who picks the next SCJ. The judge’s SCV will have 40+ votes against. That is crazy for a life term position.

If you know the name Merrick Garland, and you believe there is no reason not to fill that seat, you have absolutely sense of decency.

But Barrack did not have the votes in the Senate. It was actually Mcconnell who put the brakes on the process.
So, we will see. I would think a woman would have to be nominated first because it's going to be so turbulent. I'll never forget how Brett Kavanaugh was treated during his process. The left was brutal.
wrong Precedent is the last year of a lame duck Presidential term and it was Joe Biden and the democrats who started this, not republicans.

Not sure if he'll have the votes in the Senate. Should have the votes in the judicial committee, but Romney, Murkowski and Collins will probably vote against.
Hell, I am a staunch conservative and I really don't know whether it's a good idea or not. I know with every fiber of my being the Dems would not hesitate to shove a nominee thru if they had the Senate and the Prez, so I'lm probably for it.
But let's say Trump gets it done, then the Dems get the Prez and Senate. First thing they would suspend the filibuster and expand the SCOTUS to 15 members with 6 new far, far, FAR left justices.
For the record, the past couple months I am have been warning folks this is going to be the most eventful 2-3 months in modern American history. Of course, "eventful" was a kind way of saying the events would be unpleasant and bloody ... which as you can see in the streets, it has intensified and is only going to escalate.
Notice how the Abraham Accord has people talking "peace". I seem to recall text saying something about "When they say peace and safety ..."but I digress. Things are going to become so turbulent, here and abroad, that the calls for civility will rise in lockstep with a rise in rioting and violence here. Perhaps people need to see who Rabbi Yaakov Zisholtz claims to be in talks with. Unbelievable.
However, in no way did I factor a passing of Ruth Bader into the equation. There's really no words other than to say you have to sit back in awe as you watch how all of this is unfolding. This is not about the United States. This is a world about to be turned on its head.

I agree. At the end of the day, it's an opportunity that hasn't been there since 1973. You have to take that shot, and he will.
I just really wish I had a crystal ball and could tell whether it's going to help or hurt the good guys in 33 Senate races and the Presidential race.
I think it's going to help, but man it's scary if they take over the POTUS and Senate and are ffffffffurious about the new SCOTUS justice.
Does the vote happen before the election? I think it should but it’s not hard to imagine it getting drug past that point.

I will not speak ill of the dead, but I don't think a few million infant souls will be rolling over in their graves (if they would have been given the decency to have one) over her passing.

I think the lesser of the evils is for it to happen, although some squish RHINO types are already lining up with no votes.
And those Rhinos need to be on the record of not voting or voting nay.
