Anyone have a picture of Chris Christie sobbing in his stack of pancakes over this pick? He's sucked and sucked up to Trump the past 3-4 months......

Considering Christie is from the same part of the country as Trump and also since he's very overweight I don't think he had a realistic chance. (Sad but true that looks count.)

And I don't think Newt had a chance either. Is it just me or is Newt very unappealing, as we as very old and very white?

I think Newt is too old...I think he can offer Trump some good advice, but I didn't like him as a VP pick.

Maybe Newt knows now a little of how his wife must have felt when he asked for a divorce when she was in the hospital being treated for cancer.

I don't know a whole lot about him
He signed one of those "religious freedoms" laws and then immediately backtracked it after businesses protested. I guess this is Trump trying to win over the social conservatives.

Still waiting on a major new outlet (CNN/Fox) to report it. I always knew that we had true insiders here.
Does the NY Times count?
Donald J. Trump’s campaign has signaled strongly to Republicans in Washington that he will pick Mike Pence, the governor of Indiana, as his running mate, though Republicans caution the party’s mercurial presidential candidate may still backtrack on his apparent choice.

Mr. Trump’s advisers have told national Republican officials that they are preparing to make an announcement with Mr. Pence, according to three people with knowledge of the conversations, who were not authorized to discuss them publicly. His campaign has said that it will unveil a running mate for Mr. Trump in New York on Friday.

Mr. Pence, a former congressman and radio host, emerged over the last week as the strong favorite of Mr. Trump’s political advisers and senior officials in the Republican Party.

I finally saw it on CBS first but it took a while.

Rust belt governor that appeals to evangelicals. Not a bad choice if it sticks, but Trump's past stance on abortion is still going to hurt him with evangelicals.

An older, taller, Dan Quayle.

Pence can explain how the Trickle Down economy works! lol. Horrible pick in my opinion if he was looking to broaden his base any, who knows, this could be BS.

When his name first surfaced I saw a tweet supposedly from someone in Indiana that said, "You can't have him, he's not done screwing us yet." [smoke]

He's not a controversial pick. He helps with the far right side of the party and won't create waves that would derail Trump anymore than Trump's own mouth.

He's the best pick of the three. Of course, the other two are absolute morons.

Newt's far from a moron. You may disagree with his politics, but he's probably the most qualified from a political standpoint than any of them.

If it's done deal, then why am I reading on USA Today that Trump has said "no decision has been made"?

He Hasn't won over Tony Perkins head of the Family Research Council. Perkins says he will not support Pence because he amended Indiana's "Religious Freedom Act" after pressure from business leaders. Interested to see if other social conservatives react like Perkins.

But the story this morning was no announcement would be made today because of what happened yesterday in France.

??????

And the media knew before Pence actually knew.

??????

Dumbass can't even make a VP selection without phucking it up.

They cancelled the event due to the tragedy in Nice, trying not to steal major air time away from that on the news. I think that was actually a classy move. I believe the simple release like that is fine, and they'll do an event later. Pence had until this morning to withdraw from the gubernatorial race in Indiana. Apparently, they have rules that won't let him run for both offices at the same time - a good rule in my opinion.

When he puts on that tinfoil hat when he's around right-wingers, he (IMO) comes off as pretty moronic. When he's simply assessing the current situation as part of a less than pure political bent/partisan discussion, I find him fairly compelling.

Meanwhile, I myself have most recently been thinking of him more as an eventual Senior Adviser to a President Trump.....maybe even a Chief Of Staff-type..... than his next in line.

nah not really...using a "your mom was blowing me" retort was a bit much?

Maybe just a touch.......but then again, these are partisan politics we're talking about :pimp: I mean with some around here, you simply disagree with them.....and it results in the respondent's use of the word ********** more than most would think is possible in a 3 or 4 line paragraph.

Oh so true. LOL!

Another pattern is the people complaining the about name calling call others terrible names the most and then rationalize as if they are above it all.

I could see Chief Of Staff for Newt. He knows the DC political game better than anyone.

I said a week or so ago it would be a mistake to announce s vp pick outside of the convention and you can see why after the past two days. With the terror in France and the coup in Turkey dominating the news, Trump has been put on the sidelines. Now, announcing Pence as a running mate will add basically zero new votes for the ticket so it doesn't matter in reality since Trump's campaign is so unique but I am sure they would have liked to had won the news cycle with a positive announcement.
