It is my understanding they have to shoot it. For some reason, trapping it or tranquilizing it isn't an option. Doesn't make sense to me they can't at least try to trap it.

Apparently, according to game and parks people, you can't relocate a mountain lion like you can a bear or alligator that wanders into a City. Might have to do with their territorality. I think the zoo took one they found along 108th and Papio Creek several years back. My guess is zoo doesn't want to become a sancutary for them.

It sends a message to the others.

My local game & parks officer told me they found a lion tagged (chipped) I believe near the black hills on the east coast. Might have to do with their scope of travel and how comfortable the animal has gotten with populated area. Can't undo that perhaps

The current kitty was last spotted south of Omaha last night. The kitty needs to keep moving south and west out of the metro or he is going to get shot and killed. He is far too comfortable in the city now. He is literally walking thru neighborhoods like a coyote would. That is not good.

There's no mountain lions in Nebraska...šŸ˜‰
There no doubt is a breeding population in the Omaha area regardless of what GFP says. One of these days somebody will get attacked. A guy still hunting from the ground in Knox county a few years ago had to kill one when it attacked him. He had video to support what happened. A friend killed a HUGE tom on the SD side of Lewis and Clark Lake with a bow. There are WAY more livestock attacks happening than what gets reported.

A picture at the bait shop in Fort Randall of a big Tom killed in the campground during last winter. They definitely are along the Missouri River.

I saw something in my calving pasture this spring. It was at dawn and 3/8 mile away so I wasn't SURE what I saw. A couple days later 3 people saw a mountain lion 1/2 mile away. It won't get a 2nd chance. Lost a couple calves but wasn't really sure why. Coyotes don't kill calves and cows protect well against them. Mountain lions......might be different story

They can't tranq it because it doesn't just drop like they do in movies. It could take up to 10 minutes for it go down. A very pissed off wild animal for 10 minutes in the city is not a good equation. They can't relocate because they are too territorial and it will likely be killed by another cat and there is only 2% of Nebraska land that isn't private. Hopefully it moves along, but if not shoot it

Yep. Have a friend who has lost 2 calves in 2 years in the same river pasture. One he found buried under a pile of brush.

I had a cow with scratch marks on each side of her shoulders and her calf had a wound on its flank. Thought it was strange and then a couple of days later ran into a game warden who told me a lion had attacked a neighbor’s calves about that same time.

You need to have a donkey I believe to run with your cattle, they’ll kick the living crap out of the mountain Lion

I don’t think a donkey is much of an answer. I had an old cow with horns that kept a check on dogs and coyotes but she’s long gone. One of my neighbors has donkeys but they’re always off by themselves.

In the last 5yrs some of the NGPC have told me they keep following the Platte eastward. Reports in Airpark (Lincoln), Louisville/Mahoney area. Could be feeding on coyotes too?
