he's big and can run. who cares. run-first QBs are fool's gold.

these are the plays he'll need to make with his arm to take us where we want to go, and I believe him to be more than capable.

I don't agree with this very popular opinion

our defense is the key to our success this season, as I believe we will be uber-conservative on offense regardless of who's under center
Interesting take. What causes you to think the offense will be conservative all season?

our opponents, largely

we will be afforded the opportunity to play very conservatively because we play zero high-fliers

take care of the ball, force the issue with aggressive defense and good tackling, beat most or all of the average at best teams on our schedule (11 of 12)

If your defense is good you can trend to be somewhat conservative because it's not a race to 100 pts. Same could be said for bad defense...ball control and limit opponents touches. Playing conservative is a loaded phrase

my money is on our defense being good (top 5 in the league)

we should be able to pack the box and cover 1-on-1 all season long

again, this is largely driven by the laughable dearth of skill players/downfield passers we will face

Please let this be true.

I think Oline improvement is also ahead of Sims in importance.

Granted, it's a small sample size, but I saw very few offensive playmakers in the Spring game. I see a lot of 21-17, 17-14 games. Shorten the game, run the clock, don't put the D in bad spots.

I disagree, we saw what a good defense with an absolutely flaccid offense looked like in 2021. We have to be capable on both sides of the ball period.

If we can block well enough, and Jeff plays within the system because he doesn’t feel like it’s all on him, we can manufacture some wins. Keep him around 20 to 22 passes per game and hand off the ball to a stable of good running backs.

Reminiscent of Bill Callahan year two. He had Cody Glenn and Marlon Lucky toting the rock. They dominated time of possession.

I think we will have a good defense. Really hoping that Sims runs for first downs on 3rd and 5 passing plays. Our best chance at having a good defense is not being in such a damn hurry on offense.

2AM was the worst at this. He would try to throw 15 yards down field on these plays and miss his WRs by quite a bit. Just get the dang first down and have a 2 - 8 minute drive.

better yet: he gets the ball out on time and on target!

So.... basically exactly what we SHOULD have been doing the last x amount of years if our coaches had half a goddamned brain.

From my novice view, it looks like Sims has significant arm strength. He has that flick motion on his passes as opposed to trying to wind up and heave the ball downfield like some other QB's. It also looks like he has an arch trajectory on some of his deep throws. If you're going to throw deep passes like that, you'd better make sure there's not a rangy FS nearby that can close on it.

You take a couple young ones like Malachi and Brice Turner, get them really crisp on a couple of pass patterns, and it can be burn baby burn. Nobody in this league stays with Turner, and less than a handful can hang with Malachai.

No point in bringing in all this WR speed if you don't plan to employ it.

I think this offense will be unpredictable. You have a QB who throws short to medium passes accurately, you have speed on the outside that will keep the safeties away, RB's that have the potential to be very good, and a QB who can run, if they get the FB to be a legit weapon, there will be some great games. I think the offensive line will thrive in the Rhule offense.

100% agree

I think we'll lull them to sleep between the tackles and take plenty of deep shots down the sideline

Unfortunately, for a long time now our defense makes even 3rd string QBs and walk on receivers look like Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. IMHO nothing is a given anymore until I see different.

The thing I liked from the highlights was several showed him buying time by moving in the pocket. Hopefully our O line and play calling can keep it from being a 5 yard dash to the QB.

It would be nice to be good down the middle with Boerk and Fidone. Thomas may have the type of speed to take it to the house.

I still wish they would have Ron Brown working on receiver blocking at least a couple times a week.

If not being able to actually coach it, at least pull up some of the old films and show these cats how those 8-10 yard runs turn into 50+ yarders.

Let's hope that White is creative enough on defense to get some heat on those QB's.

The defense will be the most important unit. Jeff Sims will be the most important player. There's a good sized drop off behind our starting QB.

You’re an iowa fan, your opinion is not valued.
What an odd post. I made that post 5 days ago, are you going to hunt all my posts down and call me an Iowa fan? This is seriously your contribution to this thread is to come and call me an Iowa fan 5 days later. You do realize how pathetic that is, right?

I mean literally you don’t know jack about me, and this great revelation you had on Sunday morning at breakfast was to call me an Iowa fan on one of the most basic of my posts? It truly baffles me how big of a douche you must be. To be scrolling through old threads and come to that one and literally take the time out of your day to put those words down.

Dude seriously … get a hobby.

I guess you are … awesome Sunday for you. Enjoy!

I mean … it’s a little sad and I kinda feel bad for you. BUT if calling me an Iowa fan on different threads helps brighten your day … you do you!

Still … a little sad though.

Damn I really was correct, triggered you so bad by correctly calling you out as an iowa scum bag that you needed to post twice and quote yourself.

he is a Nebraska fan who also roots for iowa

we have many on this board who gladly admit this

living proof the "rivalry" is a contrived, one-sided sham

would never meet an iowa fan who also roots for Nebraska

Solid logic - call someone something incorrect. Person defends themselves against the falsehood and then you say it’s correct because they defended themselves??

Either you are 8 or you aren’t very intelligent. I pray it’s the former but fear it’s the latter. Good luck out there in this big world … you’re gonna need it.

The only programs I truly despise and hope nothing but bad things happen to them would probably be Texas, CO and Michigan … I suppose Notre Dame would be up there … not wishing videographers to fall from scaffolding bad but more lack of success bad things.

Fun highlights.
I think I permanently damaged my eyes imagining Sims in a red & white uni while making those plays.

That’s hilarious if that’s actually what that dork is trying to sell over here.

There’s a simple test I’ve developed to out turd iowa fans trying to come off as Nebraska fans, it involves the term blueblood, some factual data of Nebraska’s years in the big8/12 and finally a true/false question about the big2 little8 of the original bigten.

Imposters either refuse to take the simple test or they use the stock “iowa fan” replies, either way they are outed. It’s quite amusing. Stay tuned, we’ll see how that a$$clown wants to play this out.

Cedric is the only that has admitted that he likes both Nebraska and Ioway.
