Why I like the B1G so much

Hey man, I might be a simpleton, but I hate the Big Ten almost as much as you do.

But as I've explained many times, I've despised this obnoxious band of self-important, blowharding, gasbagging institutions since I was a kid, and that only intensified when they added gawd-awful Penn State to the mix. Nebraska being in the conference has very little to do with it.

I did Michigan and would never do it again. The fans were fine (lame, but fine) but driving there sucks and flying there just ruins the fun part of hanging with your friends in the car.

Back in the day it could be a Wednesday and you could be like "hey, why don't we go to the game at KU Saturday...it is at 2:30, we can leave at 6am and have a great time"

PSU, MD, Rutgers? Once, maybe. Ohio State? Once maybe.

Indiana, do we even play them? MSU, once, maybe.

For sure, there's nothing in the B1G that can compete with that cultural experience in Manhattan Kansas or the dynamic enriching atmosphere in Ames Iowa. Winking

I'm not sure bout usc fan yet...they seem ok..they pileup alot of w's so I can see them having a bit of attitude, but I think that southern cal hollywood attitude is good for them..

alot of the big 10 is like the big 8, there's not much difference between misery and iowa...or northwestern and ksu..

At some point, the superconferences are probably going to break up again and we'll be back to smaller regional conferences. That's just my prediction.

In an ironic twist, the NFL is doing a better job at preserving some regionality than college football. NFL divisions are largely focused on a specific region, and fans are more concerned about their own division.

Folks it was a sarcastic comment. Obviously there are some places in California that fit the description (read the news). AND of course there are many other areas of California that DO NOT fit the description. The same thing is true of Nebraska, there are cornfields in the state for sure but there aren't cornfields in the city of Lincoln (unless you count sweetcorn in the gardens). But I'm not triggered when people across the nation think all of Nebraska is nothing but a giant cornfield.

I think part of the part of the nostalgia of the Big 12 and Big 8 was we were beating the **** of everyone because sure, the drive was nice, but the experience wasn't great. I remember parking in a mud parking lot after it rained in Manhattan once and thought where the f am I. Nothing great about games at Lawrence that I remember other than a short drive. Same for Mizzou. Haven't been to any road Big 10 games but my parents haven't had a bad experience at any places they have been. They liked Minny, Purdue, and MSU the best.

The last thing I remember about the Big 12 was not living in Nebraska and not being able to see all the games and paying $30+ for pay per view with no one to split it with. We moved to the big 10 and I could instantly see every game.

Big 12 is still that way , some non conference and some conference games were on ESPN plus or whatever it was.

Oh yeah, the old "PPV" games were stupid, I can remember having to head out to the bars (I didn't really mind) to go see U host South Dakota State.

I flew back to SoCal the day after the 2007 NU/USC game in Lincoln. The plane was 2/3rds USC fans and many of them had purchased Styrofoam cornheads for souvenirs. A lot of them were gold or platinum frequent flyers, so got on the plane first. They filled up the overhead bins with cornheads so some passengers getting on at the end had to have their carry ons checked. There were several people who got on last who had cornheads and they couldn't really be moved to checked baggage, so the flight attendant had them write their names on the cornheads and she put them in the forward coat closet. Those USC fans loved them some cornheads.

#2 is just typical B1G ‘we invented college football’ egotistical ******** driven by on-campus administrators & championed of course by Michigan

Warren appears to have had too much faith & trust in the institutions he represented to want to play their biggest games late in the season in prime time - an absolute no brainer for anyone except these holier than thou B1G dickheads

Again, he should’ve known better, but I don’t exactly put the blame solely on him for #2 despite over promising & underdelivering - ironically the B1G’s longest running tradition
