I decided to jump into this thread, but admittedly late. I had a doctor, good guy, weighed 300 pounds and had dandruff and if I saw him after lunch, he had food on his lab coat. This guy pushed meds like there was no tomorrow. My LDL came in at 108 and he wanted to put me on a statin. I pointed out the lab printout didn't flag LDL as a concern under 120. He gave me a condescending speech (knows I'm a car guy) about how I'm a machine, I'm a Jaguar, and we need to keep all my gauges in the green. LDL above 100 is in his opinion not in the green. Another time I had a treadmill test. I had been hiking in the Sierras with a backpack a lot that summer/fall. The treadmill had three pre-set angles/speeds. When we got to the steepest/fastest I was still not at 190 BPM so he took manual control and did the Ivan Drago number on me. By the time I got to 190, running as fast as I could on a 60 degree incline he said my blood pressure was high and I needed to get some kind of medication. I didn't think that test was fair. I have all the respect in the world for that doctor and know he is trained to interpret the latest medical literature. However, I'm an engineer and can read and made my own decision about having my gauges in the green vice being on meds for the rest of my life. I chose not to take his opinion about the meds, he is a trained professional, not God.
