One QB run may have opened up the run game.Frost’s comment can be loosely translated to:
“Do something cute to score at the 1 yard line” (when all you have do line up and run it in)
“Onside kick when you’re up by two scores and have the momentum”.
Personally I liked the game plan Whipple called. Frost hired Whipple to do the play calling. Let the man call the game.
Northwestern is not a terrible team this year. Last year they were but are much improved this year. They will win some games In the BIG-10.Tough statement when Northwestern is actually terrible.
In reality he is throwing a temper tantrum being upset that he isn’t the one calling the plays any more..Apparently Northwestern did not need to be creative on offense to beat Nebraska.

And with that decision to onside kick he better think twice putting his assistance under the bus..
Offensive creativity.
I hate the 3-4 defensePeople were so pumped that Feist earned a blackshirt. Maybe it's not a good sign if a short, light walk-on is in the 2 deep on the DL? I'm not saying he is specifically the problem, but if that's all we got it's gonna be another long season.
He earned it as a walk-on, but I was very surprised he started the game or played so many snaps..People were so pumped that Feist earned a blackshirt. Every coach knows this formula, which is why all our losses are so predictable any more.In reality, Northwestern played basic football on offense and just waited for Nebraska to implode.
I'm not sure he meant it that way, but it sure could come across like that.Take a shot at your OC why don't you? Just not a good look from him. Probably overanalyzing but that is what it sounds like to me.
I have a feeling we would have seen more of Drew if he was here for all of fall camp. Also, Wynn, although talented, just hasn't been in that many games during his college career. He earned it as a walk-on, but I was very surprised he started the game or played so many snaps..
That was a concern of mine during the 4Q…

They do have a tough schedule but I think they’ll beat Illinois when NW hosts.Against who? They will be dogs in every game including Illinois.
3-4 isn't the problem. plenty of good defenses, college and pro, have been 3-4. The guy running said 3-4 is the problemI hate the 3-4 defense
It has a huge flaw.
Not sure they have the talent to do that.Maybe it's time to stop looking for short cuts and actually win a game in the trenches?
And I don't mean the Huskers have to run the ball all, or even most, of the time - but don't get pushed around on both sides of the ball by freaking Northwestern.
Callahan really wasn't that bad. That 5-7 record in 2007 with a very difficult schedule following two straight winning seasons (with an appearance in the Big 12 championship) seems almost unattainable now. I do wonder how he would have done if given one more season and the opportunity to replace the DC. That season the "Tradition Coalition" was undermining the program from within and that is something that to this day negatively affects the program.I do not think there is any doubt he was casting shade at Whipple. And with good reason in my view. Whipple's play calling in the run game was atrocious, with run after run between the tackles for no gain. Grant had one long run and that was it. We did run a few plays to the perimeter and they were more successful. Then Smothers comes in and runs one play well. And given the fact that NW could not handle our QB run game or our option game last year, then why the heck don't you leave him in and see if he could ignite a spark?
All that said, this is the very reason why Alberts laid a turd last year in not firing Frost then. By forcing him to hire new coaches and by in essence forcing him to give up his status as play caller, he has neutered his head coach precisely as a head coach. This ******** we have been reading about how the new offense would be a "meshing" of the Whipple and Frost offenses is nonsense, because what we saw yesterday was Whipple's offense entirely. For his entire career Frost has favored a zone-read offense with a dual threat QB. I actually like that offense and I think it works well when you have a better QB than the one we had and a better offensive line. Watching the more pro style offense of Whipple flounder in the second half must have been galling for Frost who probably felt like intervening but did not dare to lest he be accused of interfering in the play calling, which he had been forced to give up.
The entire situation is just dysfunctional as hell and is a recipe for more trouble. There is just a whole bad vibe surround the Whipple-Frost relationship which kind of smacks of an infantilized Frost taking orders from his elder statesman coach. When Whipple enters the press room there is a whole vibe of "finally, there is an adult in the room" and when Frost enters the vibe is "Oh here comes the spoiled, arrogant kid again."
Frost is a lousy head coach. He should have been fired. But his legacy as a Husker saved his ***. It is time to admit that the entire Devaney/Osborne thing is dead, dead, dead. It is time to stop these hires that try to relate us again to that era. And I include the hiring of Alberts in that as well. If Alberts can't find the balls to fire Frost then he should be fired too. Clean house and open the checkbook for a new AD and a new head football coach who know how to build a football program from scratch. Because that is where we are now. We need a complete reinvention of Husker football from the ground up. Because based on what I saw yesterday I see us going 2-10 or 3-9. And if that happens watch how fast our current recruiting class goes up in smoke and how many guys transfer out.
This dumpster fire was created by Steve Pederson and Sean Eichorst who both fired our only two successful coaches post Osborne. Were Pelini and Solich great coaches? No. But they were solid coaches. Neither one could compete against elite teams, but at least they beat the teams they should and got us to bowl games. Now we need an AD with some balls and some fire and a real vision. **** the sell out streak. **** the tunnel walk. **** the balloons. Find a coach and a staff who know how to build a program.
They're the hired help taking the heat (blame) is what they do!Throws his OC and new offensive assistants under the bus when those are the very same guys who are trying to save his job. Ridiculous.
It takes a special kind of person to go 10-25 in the conference and criticize his own coaches in their first game out.
Frost throwing Whipple (who will be the interim HC in October) under the bus is such a bad look. Frost was being a little whiney brat throwing a hissy fit because Trev won’t let him call plays anymore. The offense did more than enough to win. The D giving up 31 points and over 500 yards to NW - not exactly an offensive juggernaut - was the problem.
No they scored 2 TD’s in the second half but zero in the 4th Q..The offense scored 0 points in the 2nd half. That is not more than enough to win
They scored 14 in the second half. Along with the 14 they scored in the first half that should always be enough to beat NW.The offense scored 0 points in the 2nd half. That is not more than enough to win
2016 your hawkkks lost 31-38, I guess 28 isn’t always enough. They scored 14 in the second half. Along with the 14 they scored in the first half that should always be enough to beat NW.
That same year Iowa beat NE 40-10. And despite the beat down, 2016 was NE’s last season with a winning record.2016 your hawkkks lost 31-38, I guess 28 isn’t always enough.
that is 1 of 2 Nebraska teams with a winning record iowa has beaten in the last 50 yearsThat same year Iowa beat NE 40-10. And despite the beat down, 2016 was NE’s last season with a winning record.
