Keep in mind Burrow was buried on the bench at OSU and was light years better than any QB they had. OSU seems to have trouble identifying their best players sometimes.
A "miss" is when they don't offer or aggressively recruit a kid with that kind of talent. A miss is whey they recruit and land a kid who shouldn't have been offered. It isn't a miss to lose out to OSU on a legacy that you recruited to the best of your ability. That's my definition of misses. It was a "FAILURE" maybe in recruiting but not a miss.
When you offer a kid over a million to end up being a starter at OSU, I think that makes you a booster. You will note that they didn't offer him a million if he ended up starting at Rutgers right or even Michigan.
You can say that about almost every top team with so much talent to choose from but keep in mind, the NFL thought the same that both Olave and Wilson were better than Jameson Williams as both were taken before him in the draft.
And Burrow was buried on the bench at OSU ? Seriously ? He was in a tight battle with Haskins for the backup QB job behind JT Barrett and, unfortunately, he broke a bone in his hand which set him back and gave the backup QB position to Haskins. Burrow decided to transfer out after that. Oh BTW, Haskins went on to shatter a ton of B1G records in his only year as a starter.
The offer had nothing to do with the school - they wanted to use his name no matter where he went to school which, obviously, since he was the nation's #1 recruit, would have been a top- level football power and the NJ marketing firm knew that. You're trying to cover up now after spinning it that it was OSU boosters behind it.
OSU does not offer NIL deals to go there because it is against the rules even though that rule isnt enforced right now and lots of schools are breaking it.
It's just not OSU that does not offer NIL deals to HS recruits, most of the major football powers stay away from it telling recruits that the NIL money is there once they prove themselves once they arrive at the school.
I have no dog in this fight but this is INCORRECT. What you don't seem to realize is that the $1.3 million NIL deal with the NJ Marketing firm In still intact even though Ewers transferred from OSU to Texas. In fact, the kid has picked up a couple of more HUGE NIL deals since transferring. He's a multi millionaire without ever throwing a pass in CF.
So my question to you - has that marketing firm now switched from an OSU booster to a Texas booster? Good Lord, some of the posts on this board are past being comical

I think the point is that Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel QBs were not your typical NFL QBs. But most of them were really effective college read-option QBs.
Ryan Day Is a totally different beast. Why can't people face the fact that he was a QB coach in the NFL. In fact, Justin Fields claimed that the main reason he transferred to OSU was to learn under Day. OSU will have 3 first round QB picks since 2018 after Stroud gets drafted next year. Still way too early to say they'll fizzle out into obscurity. You don't think Raiola and future 5-star QBs notice what's going on in Columbus especially with the WRs they keep bringing in

You said earlier that he was buried on the OSU depth chart and as mentioned, that was not the case. As pointed out, the broken hand cost him at OSU and eventually transferring.
And besides, if I was a Nebraska fan, the LAST player I would bring up on this board is Joe Burrow. Wasn't his dad an ex-Nebraska player ? At least OSU was smart enough to offer him a scholarship. Hurts, doesn't it ? Ha Ha Ha Ha !!!!!
True Burrow probably would have transferred to Nebraska if Frost wasn't "good" with Martinez.
Whatever you say truth seeker. You accused me of making false statements. What I stated was a differing viewpoint of what a "miss" is. To use miss the way it was used at the outset IMO isn't a correct view of what a miss should be construed as. What we had here was a recruiting failure. Symantecs to be sure but the term "miss" is normally used in recruiting terms on this site for the past dozen or more years as either recruiting a kid you shouldn't have OR not recruiting a kid you should have.
We didn't "miss" on evaluating his talent OR in our effort to recruit Raiola. We "failed" to land him. Even though we failed, I don't think we can fault our coaches for their effort. IMO, the ineptitude of the past 20 years contributed most highly to the failure.
IF Flores flourishes THEN it will be considered a miss no doubt. Too early to say for now IMO. I always like to see Nebraska kid get a shot but this is high stakes poker for Frost and it's his *** on the line. So far, his QB evaluations don't inspire a lot of confidence.

sink or swim, it is a GIANT, insanely impactful MISS that Flores will not be doing it with an NU offer in tow. Our own homegrown kids take notice of such sleights, perhaps even more than our abysmal record.
I wouldn’t say the past 20 years. It’s really only the past 4 years that are hurting us now in recruiting. Had Frost improved the won loss record during that time, we would have a much better chance with highly rated recruits. Instead, he made it worse.
When was the last time a #1 player out of high school panned out ? #1 draft picks out of college don’t pan out most of the time.
I think back to Ron Palus who was suppose to be the 2nd coming at Norte dame and I don’t know if he even finished college. For sure did nothing in the pros.

the main thing, is if he goes to osu, and see's the bench..and says he wants to come to NU, really reflect on the qb postion, the deepest of reflection....whoever is the coach...you don't have to say he' the #1 qb...you just say sure...you can come here but you will have to compete for the starting job....don't say we have better...

Going back 5 years and starting with 2020, the rivals overall number 1 players were: Breese (2020) , Stingley Jr.(2019) , T. Lawrence (2018), Najee Harris (2017), and Rashan Gary (2016). 4 1st round NFL picks and a sure-fire 1st rounder with Breese next year. They panned out pretty well.
Between the 2 I think he was nuts to turn down USC. LR had 3 NFL starters last year Baker, Kyler, Jalen. Day had 1 who split time and OSU's QBs have done better as WRs than NFL Qbs as of late.
2 of those QBs were transfers, and Baker is a bust. The jury is still out on Jalen Hurts. Also Spencer Rattler looked awful last year with all those weapons. Day produced Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields, and is about to have a 3rd first round pick next year in Stroud. You can't go wrong with either coach but acting like Riley is way better than Day at coaching QBs isn't true. Recruits aren't looking at Urban Meyer QBs they're looking at Ryan Day QBs and those are getting pumped into the NFL right now. Next up is Kyle McCord/Devin Brown.
Was it Day that picked Haskins over Burrow. If it was him, major mis-read on talent when he was able to see them every day. But he gets unreal talent thru crootin
Burrow was coming off an injury, and Haskins had a much better 2018 than Burrow did. It's an apples to oranges comparison. Let's not forget Haskins was a 3rd year sophomore in 2018, and Burrows was a 5th year senior in 2019. Who knows how good Haskins would have been had he stayed in college as long as Burrow did.
OK, let's discuss what it would take to flip his commitment to Nebraska. I can only think of two reasons, one would be Nebraska start winning the BIG Championship and two OSU starting to slip. I'm not saying this will happen it's just the only way I see Nebraska getting Dylan's attention.
Frost would have to work wonders with the QB position over the next few seasons and the reverse for Ryan Day.
Baker started 4 seasons and won a playoff game. Only reason he cant get a job now is because of his off the field antics and injured shoulder. He shouldve never been picked number 1 and isnt a franchise QB but he made a ton of money and won a heisman. Hardly a bust.
I agree. He isn't flipping unless something miraculous happens. OSU is head and shoulders above and he should go to the better program for his own development.
Agree. It’s really interesting to see how few 5 stars decide to take a team that is at shoulder level and try to be part of raising it. Seems like all choose teams already on top but I guess that is more guaranteed ticket for big dollars in nfl.
Baker seems like a cool guy that I'd love to have a beer with and his commercials are pretty funny but he has been a bust in the NFL and the fact that his team can't even trade him for a box of Snickers proves that
Probably a lot easier to flip to NU than vice versa. Am I nuts? No. I'd he doesn't commit to the nuts they will sign the next best available and move on. NU would always make room for raiola.
