The interesting thing is whether huge NIL deals make available scholarship slots even relevant any more. What's to prevent a star player from coming in as a walk-on and being paid the big bucks through a huge NIL contract to get around scholarship limits?
Redcap, love where your head is at on this, I brought up the same thing months ago and was basically told I was an idiot..lol But may come off better coming from you.
I am in agreement with you here, but have a few concerns:
The big time transfer guys are usually only a 1 or 2 year transfer guys...and how many of them will there be? Maybe we get 2-4 of them..so that only frees up 2-4 schollies for 1-2 years more than likely..which hey is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick..which will allow us to grab more portal peeps as well.
Where I see that it could help us the most (But I dont know if the boosters would do it) is I see 17 current NE kids on the 85 limit. The instate kids tuition and stuff is much lower than out of state kids. I would think most all of those kids would agree to do an NIL type of thing to pay for their school, room/board etc. without needing an official scholarship..But the problem with that..is will boosters even WANT to pony up money for NE kids to do this? Remembger, that is still going to be a 4-5 year NIL commitment for these kids which is pricey. Which I think would be a tremendous advantage for us to have now were are talking an extra 20 plus scholarships along with those 2-4 big time NIL dudes who come here for a year or two and dont need the official schollie. That should give us a TON of depth with the added 20 scholarship worthy kids we could possibly get.
Now where I see it being tough is the out of state HS kids that commit to us, cuz the B10 the schollies are guaranteed for 4 years. SO even if the kid cant play for some reason, they can do a medical or something nd still get school paid for...So I dont think we would be able to get many of those HS kids on this "NIL schollie" type of deal cuz they may want that guaranteed scholarship security blaket in case something happens to them...
