Dude has four left to play with the Covid year. Number 18 DT. To compare, Vince Valentine was the #28 DT in his class.

Also this on the TX Tech kid.
One of the other things Drew appeared to like about this weekend was Lincoln's close proximity to his family in Kansas City.
He mentioned that it would be important for him to be able to have family attend most of his games in Lincoln.

Do I like the NIL deals? Not really, but if they are earning it and the coaches are getting big bucks, it's fine. I just hope us individual boosters and season ticket holders won't be gouged with big price increases.

On the positive side-- this levels the playing field with all the schools that were blatantly cheating and paying players anyway and getting away with it. This gives us a fighting chance.

The interesting thing is whether huge NIL deals make available scholarship slots even relevant any more. What's to prevent a star player from coming in as a walk-on and being paid the big bucks through a huge NIL contract to get around scholarship limits?

scholarship slots haven't been relevant at the top of college football for a very long time, if ever

You’re going to see a spike in big time players next couple days jumping in portal for money..look what has joined the party today. And this site gives a NIL projection..

These kids are paying attention. The floodgates are open. Get you some Huskers. Who is the face of NIL at Nebraska? Frost is texting boosters on a burner telling them which guys to offer.

IF Nebraska can line up enough NIL money, they can fix their DL problems in a hurry.

We need these transfers big time. If we can get a couple of these guys for the defensive line the prospects for our season will increase exponentially. I am not really worried about the offense. Sure, it sputtered in the Spring game but who cares. That means nothing. I think we have some excellent tools to play with on offense and I am optimistic on that score. Offensive line is still a bit sketchy but when we get some guys back I think we will be fine. My only pessimism has been the defensive line. If we can get these transfers this could be just what Frost needs to turn the corner.

Another 1 or 2 o-linemen would definitely be helpful.. Webb from Georgia, Adams of Kentucky, Hunter of A&M and Ghirmai of Texas would look good on Huskers roster! 😁

Will NIL really benefit us more than other programs? I have my doubts about that.
Also, I'd like to see a cap on NIL $$.
This is what I questioning. I just don't see Nebraska being able to sustain this for the long term. Recruiting will not mean anything moving forward. It will be all about who is writing the checks. Maybe we have that kind of backing from prominent boosters and Businesses long-term..... I just don't think we do.

I understand the concern, but who else out there can sustain big NIL deals besides the usual Bama, Georgia, USC, Ohio St and texas and a few others?

I agree I am just gonna watch it play out and see what happens. I don't envy coaches who has to manage these locker rooms.

I'm not sure how coaches can square up the locker room these days when you have lineman that have made minimal contributions at schools that have developed these players over multiple years suddenly jump ship for a quick pay day while others remain by and large unpaid. DL and OL will be premium NIL positions every year, and it's not like these players develop overnight. Taking a RS freshman NIL player is a huge risk but necessary when some schools like NU have depth to fill.
Curious to see this play out over a couple of cycles. I'm sure Tuioti leaving didn't help our numbers either this spring but I think that lineman getting paid NIL money will continue annually now. Both in the recruiting signing day classes and NIL extortion period of spring/May

Not to mention I trust Chins. If we get him some dudes I think he can scheme us through the season

Looks like wholesale replacements and needs. Maybe some of the NIL money needed to buy players from the portal should come from coaches salaries since they couldn't recruit the high schools 🤔 😉 🤷

Yeah that and learning how to not outsmart himself, motivate the team before games and after half, do something about our horrible turnover margin and time of possession, stop treating special teams as an after thought, and replacing players not getting it done.

If he can get the transfers and fix the other stuff, turning the corner should be a piece of cake.

Who can sustain big NIL deals? Well a team that still fills its stadium and has heavy merch sells even after half a decade of losing would be a good one to bet on. I don’t know. I’m just a math guy 🤷‍♂️

I think it's going to reduce the number of high school kids taken each year. Programs are going to leave 5-8 spots open every cycle for transfer portal guys.
Why do team scholarship limits even matter when you can legally pay walk ons thru big NIL deals? Players don't need scholarships any more if they get those rich deals.

I remember a commentator (Billy Packer if I remember correctly) several years ago stating that this would happen. Every sport will become a "club" sport and have to raise their own money. Football, basketball, NU volleyball and others will thrive and the players will be paid. Non-revenue sports like gymnastics, etc. may die out. Not certain it will happen but it sure seems headed that way.

I'm sure I'll watch come fall, but this definitely leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. I can understand a couple of thousand extra in spending money to college athletes who don't have time to work a job during college. This makes it like their NFL free agents BUT even an NFL free agent has to sign a contract and usually that contract is for more than a year. I wonder if once we get past the newness of the "one time transfer" rule if some of this will level off or decrease some. There's a TON of kids using up their one time transfer already.

Maybe. I just don't think we have the depth of booster money that some schools have. Schools like Oregon, USC, Notre Dame, Texas and Tosu are DEEEEEEEEP.

You would think these boosters would put a "no transfer" clause in these NIL contracts, saying that the players must agree to stay here for X number of years, or else pay a buyout if they want to leave.

Maybe there should be a rule that athletes cannot accept NIL money for the first year after they transfer.

Or have balloon payment at end of career or preferred time period

Well there's no doubt some schools have access to more booster/business money than Nebraska (eg., Alabama, Oregon, etc.). BUT there's also no doubt in my mind that Nebraska also has a MUCH better NIL situation than a lot of other schools. Overall I believe Nebraska has a net advantage with NIL being legal than without NIL being legal. Either way, we have no choice, NIL is here like it or not.
