Just a really stupid move. Keep the worst coach in college hoops around for more of the same. As I stated yesterday, as long as Ronnie and Trev are happy it doesn’t matter one iota about the fans.
It seemed to passive the football fans by keeping the worst coach around - so why not…

I do not understand why people keep mentioning Doc...Doc is not one of the 3 asst coaches. Doc was demoted before the season ever started when they brought in Nate. Doc has some some title like special asst to the head coach. Doc has not been coaching defense from the bench. From.the looks of it....no one has been in charge of defense during games. Doc cannot coach from the bench per NCAA regulations.

That said....staff has to change. Who of the 3 assts are kept? And again.....Doc is not one of those . Doc was moved because he didn't want to travel with the team any more. That said, IF you go back and watch game footage from early this season I'm pretty sure that you'll see Doc on or behind the bench. He needs to have nothing to do with the program.

I’m sorry. As soon as Fred agreed to contract restructure Trev should of fired him.
You don't think Fred restructuring his contract included the opportunity to coach the team next season? Fred and his lawyers are probably pretty dumb, huh?

What does Doc have to do with this? He isn't one of the 3 asst coaches

I like Fred and hope he can in fact run things around. I'm just astounded that NU is as bad as it is with some of the talent they have on this team. Sadly I think we might only have 2 guys on this whole roster who could start for another B1G team but then that's what Miles dealt with and he still won more games than this. Miles won more games playing walk ons after kids quit than Fred has won with a full slate of scholarship dudes.
I'm confused, do we have talent or not?

I understand this decision is because of the huge buyout, but Trev comes off looking like a leader who is very ok with losing. Fred is worst D1 coach!

He’ll look like a genius next year when football and basketball get turned around.

What's amazing is we are going to have back to back picks in a 2 round NBA draft and absolutely nothing to show from that talent

You don’t think player evaluation is also a problem? You have guys on this roster who wouldn’t be legitimate Power 5 players if John Wooden and Chuck Daly coached them.

One talking head I was listening to a while back thinks it's primarily psychological with this team this year. He thought the early losses and that beat down to Auburn destroyed any confidence this team had and then they lost Trey who he thought was the lead dog. Losses piled up. More confidence lost and malaise set in. Now they're just playing out the year. I do think the B!G is a meat grinder this year but we should still have been able to win more games than we have.
South Carolina had an impact, as well.

I don't get how you can understand this is about the buyout and also say Trev comes off looking like he's ok with losing. I understand this decision was about the buyout... period. Trev was completely handcuffed by his incompetent predecessor and that's all there is to it.

Absolutely...Trev was put in a tough spot by Moos. But someone signed off on those contracts besides Moos.

No real good options to choose from in this situation.

Gonna be one of the most interesting years in a long time in Lincoln…with both coaches of the flagship programs on notice.

Things would have been different if Trevor Lakes hadn't got hurt.

Seriously though, he's 6-49 in big ten play. It's unfathomable to be that bad.

Notice of what? That they'll be back another year no matter what happens?

Then what exactly does a special assistant to the head coach do? Drive Fred to personal appearances and make sure his shoes are shined?
If you are saying that the special asst to the head coach does evaluating of players etc to see who would fit in the program.....sure that is probably true. But Doc has only been in the position since the beginning of the year after Bobby left. Doc was not in that position when the last two groups of players were offered. Now, the two years prior to this year Doc was one of the asst coaches....and probably did have some input on who was offered.

My point is that people are blasting Doc....when they don't even know his role on the staff this year.

You’ve had plenty of opportunities to explain his role on the staff but keep coming up empty. Apparently he isn’t responsible for anything that’s wrong with the worst **** show in Power 5 basketball. And before you get your garments in an even bigger wad, I apologize for not being able to find a photo of the entire staff looking like they just witnessed a train wreck.

“Blasting” poor Doc. Good Lord.

So what is Hoiberg's "plan" that he sold Trev on? Is he going to change his style of play? Is he going to change his assistant coaches? Does he have some secret star recruits he's planning to sign?

I'm just curious what he could have told Trev that would convince him that he's suddenly going to start winning after 3 of the worst seasons in program history.

Frost could at least say that he was close to winning every game. Fred's getting blown out by even bottom-tier Big Ten teams like Northwestern and Maryland. We're not even close to being competitive in this league in basketball.

I stand by my comment. I have seen numerous posts on social media saying doc needs to be fired as the asst coach in charge of the defense. Until this year, yes, he was an asst coach....and as with all the coaches .....the responsibility has to be someone's for the "**** show" that has been going on since Fred took over. But its crap that people are blasting Doc for the poor D....when they obviously aren't aware that his role changed this year....and he cant coach from the bench. Enough blame to go around......Fred, choosing to bring certain players in....and all the coaches for putting up with selfish play.

If I didn't need any more convincing, Trev is 100% the wrong man for the job. At least the death of Nebraska athletics was brought on by Nebraskans, we can take solace in that I guess.

He has done a terrible job, but what are you going to do with an 18.6 million dollar buyout. Because of the horrible contracts alberts inherited he is stuck for another year with these guys and has to hope for the best

In my opinion, they are approaching this similar to how other Big Ten teams do. Money first, Money second, and Money third.

There is no other game in town.. they can do what they want, so long as they keep the money flowing.

Maybe Trev is the one we need to be replacing. Combined 10 wins between football and basketball this year.
This is actually a fair observation. Either we need to see a drastic improvement in both football and basketball win totals, or a whole lotta "Smell ya laters" for the coached at the end of each respective "next season."
