Pitt only rushed for 171 yards fewer than us last year for the RTDB guys out there.

Whipple is like "throw another million on the pile before retiring, what's the worst that can happen?"

I mean Rattler is obnoxious but I do think Whipple could win the West with him
Maybe. Would give him a chance to stick it to Oklahoma next year. Kid obviously wants to be the next great quarterback. Didn't work out at OU, so learn under the guy who just put a kid at the top of the draft board for qbs.

Wonder if the OU revenge motivation works without Riley? Also wonder if Venables is recruiting him to stay put?

Big difference is a lot of Nebraska's rushing yards are from the QB position.

Who did you want him to hire?
I think it’s a solid name, but I just don’t know how he will mesh with Frost. Whipple is a sideline play caller who has the QB run over to him to get the play. He uses west coast terminology and principles. I think if this is year 1 it’s a home run hire, year 5 either the entire offense is going to have to change, or Whipple will.

If anything worked every play (or anywhere close) football would be very boring.
It just has to be sprinkled in three or four times per game at the opportune times. It's a great play. The Chiefs use it fairly often and I'd say it works about 60% - 70% of the time.

It always seems to work fine when used against us.

Interesting. Who knows what we will be running next year, but I can’t imagine Whipple would come here to run Frosts offense. Maybe a hybrid of his and Frosts? As long as Frost doesn’t call the actual plays I’ll be happy.
So, just the RB coach remains.
That’s how I feel. Frost’s play calling sucks. This looks like a good hire. Let him call the plays.

Yes I just hope Frost doesn't get stubborn and if there are a few bad drives doesn't take the play calling back over

These stats are comparing Pitt's 13 games to Nebraska's 12. The season totals are worthless. Only the per game stats carry some meaning.
Good point. Instead of scoring 224 more points on the season, they probably only scored 182 more points on the season.

Instead of scoring 28 more TDs, they probably only scored 22 more TDs.

Instead of getting 89 more first downs, they probably only got 70 more first downs.

instead of passing for 1352 more yards, they probably only passed for 1100 more yards.

Instead of running 182 more plays, they probably only ran 100 more plays.

Instead of gaining nearly 1200 more yards of offense, they probably only gained 800 more yards of offense.

I see what you mean. Wow, Pittsburgh sucked this year.

If it works use it evety play... If it doesn't don't use it. Simple if you ask me.
Pitt fan here. Whipple used it whether it worked or not, and it very rarely worked. It was one of the frustrating aspects of his play calling. Why he kept calling it was a mystery.

Pitt fan here. Is Frost job safe for another three years???

It took Pickett 3 years to flourish under Whipple. Whipple’s first two years were average at best.

If you have a QB who can throw the deep ball consistently and a Oline to give him time. You will have a nice passing attack.

What drove Pitt fans crazy about Whipple was the fact he refuses to run the ball when it’s first and goal inside the 10 yard line. He will pass the ball 90 percent of the time. Regardless if your running the ball well.

Also his wide receiver screen works once every 5 times he runs it. Pitt fans wanted him to throw that play away in the garbage can.

Good luck. Hope you guys turn it around.

Oh good, now we can add a Pitt fan to the Husker fans who complain about play calling without knowing a single thing that goes in to it.
