Ok, so who gets the last coaching position? We haven't hired a RB coach or Special Teams coach yet. Which means we'll likely just have another Special Teams "analyst", unless one of our LB coaches leaves.

People are going to be furious when they see how much he likes the WR screen game.

Interesting. Who knows what we will be running next year, but I can’t imagine Whipple would come here to run Frosts offense. Maybe a hybrid of his and Frosts? As long as Frost doesn’t call the actual plays I’ll be happy.
So, just the RB coach remains.

I hope Ron sticks around

I am surprised that Frost didn't wrap things up and name the ST and RB coaches at the same time. Must still be some things being worked out. Maybe Busch and Brown aren't decided yet or there are some contract issues going on.

if the LJS doesn't have a new weekly column called the Whipple & Sipple brief, they're doing it wrong

I read on Reddit we will be running the whipple option next year for an offense.

We are getting rid of RB’s, 5 wide at all times.

WR screens are great if you run them at the correct time (i.e. if your QB knows to check into the play when DBs are playing off) and if your QB can accurately zip it over there.

But you also need a downfield passing game that's effective enough to keep the defense honest. Otherwise you just end up completing a gazillion WR screens for minimal yardage - see Rutgers, for example.

Living out West I watch Nebraska games that are usually early Pacific time then I go try to have fun after too many Husker losses. My wife went to Purdue so that game is on one TV too. I catch bits and pieces of the afternoon games. Then I will watch the big game on ABC at about 5 pm our time if it is a good one. It is mostly Pac-12 and Mountain West games into the evening. This is my long explanation to say I don’t see much Pitt football. Looking from afar I don’t think Whipple and Raiola are a slam dunk hire. (Every talking head says the Bears Oline sucks). There is no WoW factor, but we fans are not the ones who need to be impressed. The players should be the target. Will Whipple and Raiola be able to get kids excited to come to Lincoln and then help them achieve success once they are there? I hope so.

Could there possibly be an existing coach moving on, which would mean a replacement and some adjustments?

I've been watching the condensed versions of some of PItt's games on Youtube. The more I watch, the more I like. He uses a lot of different formations, he uses an H-Back quite a bit, especially in short yardage and red zone situations. He also line them up in the Pistol sometimes, and a couple times used a fullback on the goal line. So it's not all 5-wide, finesse football.

He does seem to like to throw screen passes, though. And there were many times where Pickett would just make a great play out of nothing. But putting up 464 yards on Venables' defense is pretty impressive, I think they were the only team to put up more than 400 yards on that defense this year. Pitt had 162 rushing yards that game.

Mark, please forgive our fan base. They are some of the most critical, negative, nasty know-it-all fans in the country. I'm sorry you'll have to hear all their comments...

I kinda respect Frost for staring into the abyss only to come away more resolved than ever to chuck it around the yard

Too many on here don't get it. It doesn't matter if it passing, spread, run game, screens, etc. It's just thr play that's called so if it is a bad play it's a bad play call. That's how it works.

And yes, that is my attempt at sarcasm. Sick of hearing about playing calling.

Someone has to leave to add both.
