I'll leave this right here so those that have not seen what this kid is all about. Logan is taylor made for this offense as his HS offense was almost identical to this one here at DONU. With AM & LM in this O is like trying to fit square pegs into round holes. AM is fantastic but he and Luke are the wrong QB types for this Offense. If you watch Logan is something that AM and LM aren't which is very deliberate and decisive in what he does with lightning fast blinkers which yes are faster than Adrian and Luke's as they can't get the timing of the offense down..Enjoy!!

Nice.

Two observations:

1) Not a single swing pass for -3 yards on that entire clip. Hopefully he's been working on that aspect of our offense since arriving here

2) Would very much like him to bring two of those receivers with him.

Do you see how how fast his blinkers are as well as his decisiveness? This is the QB or type of QB that makes this offense go as it's all timing and tempo. AM and Luke aren't it even though they are outstanding athletes.

Yes. That is sorely needed in this offense. As is someone who can put up a deep ball like that.

The obvious question is why did Frost recruit those 2 if they don’t fit his offense ?

The reason we aren't seeing him is 3 things, working on his arm strength, S&C and letting his ribs get fully healed.

I saw Smothers roll out to the right, do a one armed cartwheel to evade two defenders, throw a 45 yard pass all the way across the field, and then run under that same pass, catch it, and then moonwalk into the endzone.
Finally I am having some fun with Husker football!

Transition as the reason AM looked so good in 2018 is that hardly any of the O had been installed and Adrian was limited to 1 read. It takes a little bit to see who will fit this Offense as AM and Luke were recruited for being able to run and pass but only a certain type of QB can operate this offense and time and time again Adrian and Luke have proven they cannot with success. Look at the majority of our losses were due to QB play. Square pegs in round holes.

Not trying to put him down, I hope he's as good as he looks, but - that highlight film looks just like every other high school quarterback's film, including Amart. (Whatever happened to 2AM, anyway?

I saw the kid play live last year and video is a joke when it comes to seeing a players true talent. Smothers is a hell of alot faster than the video shows. Like I've said before with Smothers, if I have to compare him to anyone it would be a cross between T-Mart for his speed and Milton for his field awareness, passing and a well above avarage ability to read defenses as well as lightning fast deliberate decisiveness. Yes Smothers is faster than Luke and a better runner as well. Smothers has almost the same sick top end gear that Taylor had, not quite but damn close and very dangerous in the open field as he posesses ankle breaking moves and when he runs, he looks like a cross between an RB and receiver. Logan is taylor made for this offense as the one he ran in HS is almost identical to this one except the terminology. Let's just all pray he stays healthy in his time here.
I just finished reading this paragraph when my wife walks in the room and asks me why I have a boner. I said that I just read a post that some guy wrote on the husker forums about our future quarterback. She rolled her eyes and left the room. I yelled, “but he’s really good and he’s going to win the heisman”. She replied, “you’re so full of ****”. Thanks a lot bro!

Here's another video from his time at Athens before he transferred. This one show's more of his running ability.

Devine Ozigbo rushed for 1,000+ yards that year as well, let's not forget that. Makes it a thousand percent easier to play QB when the safeties and LBs have to worry about your running back 1) Actually getting the ball and 2) advancing it forward for first downs.

NU made its living for almost 40 years with a dominant rushing game that allowed its passing game to be 1 or 2 reads for a below average passer. They should have been doing it the last 2 years when it became evident they didn't have a QB who could be successful throwing 30 attempts a game.

Timing and tempo are everything in this offense and AM and Luke don't have it, not saying that they aren't outsatnding athletes in any way shape or form, they are just wrong type of QB for this system as the QB is what makes this offense go.

I asked the question to somebody who actually sees practice every day. He said “ He is pretty good”. Same person told me the first time he saw Mo Washington he is really good. Also said Wan’Dale, was really good. So pretty good sounds like another AM to me!

The reason Frost won't, he made a promise to Smothers that he wouldn't over recruit him and by bringing in a tranfer portal QB he would be breaking that promise. People just need to be patient. It's kind of a smart move not playing him this year as why do we want to shoot ourselves in the head as to say by tipping our had with him and giving teams game film of him for next year so that teams will have ample time to prepare for him instead of him trotting out next year and teams aren't gonna know exactly what they're gonna face. This year is a freebee, next year is when things will start counting again.
You say a lot of stuff, and I don't know if any of it's true or not, but if this is true, our coaches need to stop making promises to attract recruits. All you can really offer these guys is they'll get a chance to compete for the starting job at some point. And even if they are making promises, our qb room is not where it needs to be. If improving the qb room leads to broken promises and hurt feelings, so be it.

Luke's got those things. He's just not an accurate passer. Hopefully Smothers can combine these important qualities, and not soon enough.

He's not anywhere as deliberate of decisive as Smothers as Logan's blinkers are way faster.

Some interesting comments on here.

Frost does NOT make promises. Every player is "recruited over" and should be. You are essentially saying that no QB in this or the next class are ever intended to actually play?

You don't play your third string guy just so see whatca got for crying out loud. They know from practices, good grief. I can imagine this board after throwing Smothers in a game for two series - "what the heck was Frost thinking putting an inexperienced guy in when our O can't even run with the first two QB's" He gets killed or throws a pick, whoops there goes the confidence and yes, it can always be worse for those who are preparing to say it can't be.

Kids move around a lot these days. Wasn't his dad a coach? How many schools have many of the Florida and Texas kids played at? The coaches start seeing these kids early in HS and some before that. They know exactly what is going on. If he got late attention from some big boys, that says something, it was late for a reason would be my guess.

I hope the kid is all world but some of the blather is amazing.

That was one promise he made, that wouldn't take another QB in that class and bringing in a tranfer portal QB to start next year would go against what was told to Logan and his dad. This is true fact. Smothers is the absolute future at QB

Then Frost is putting his job on the line for it. First AM now Smothers if what you say is true. And as much as I believe in Logan, I would be going after the portal. Someone proven at this level over Someone who isn't.

Can confirm, he had some bigtime late suitors, I followed his recruiting somewhat closely. I am and always have been (woo woo) all aboard the Logan Smothers hype train.

He is legitimately fast, he was a sprinter in HS and you can google his track times simple and easy. He's not Crouch fast but he's close. There was something that always bugged me about Luke's film but I always like Smothers on film.

I'm trying to guard my heart though after putting hopes into AM and LM only to see them look hopeless as passers. The injuries with Logan worry me, he's not a big beast of a kid, you hope he can make it through full seasons without breaking bones.

He'll be in harm's way with how he'll be asked to run the ball and by the nature of being a QB who is asked to stand back there while 300 lb dudes try to hit you as hard as they can. The more football I watch the more that saying "the greatest ability in football is availability" jumps out at me.
Reading the "tea leaves", everytime his name comes up on the Omaha morning show, I get the sense he's not as highly-thought of as by some here. It came up again today. Just find that interesting.

Research is your friend buddy, go look who tried last second to try and get him away from us, tOSU, Bama, Clemson are some of this biggest.
None of these schools recruited him. Troy, UAB and south Alabama were the ones recruiting him the hardest. Louisville and old miss were the “big guys” that came in late. I think Louisville offered him. He’s Not as good of an athlete as Luke but a better arm.

Scott Frost is playing his best players at each position, he just doesn’t have any good players.
I absolutely do not believe Scott is playing the best players . If had done that his first year here he would have had a winning record and been to a bowl game that year as well

Come to think of it, I guess you could say that if Scott was a good clock manager he would have had a winning record that first year as well.

If healthy there is no reason why not to give him a shot, winning or losing this game isn’t going to change our option toward the next season.
There are quite a few reasons not to give him a start. For one thing, it's a massive signal to the rest of the team that you're waving the white flag. Hard to tell everyone to play as hard as they can and then announce you're not trying to win.

Give him a few series? Sure. Starting the game, when he hasn't played a down? Terrible, terrible idea.

Not to bag on Smothers but this is not far off, he didn't have an impressive list of truly interested schools:

"Despite a relatively modest number of offers — Southern Mississippi is probably his best outside of Nebraska — Smothers had drawn interest from Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi State, among other schools. But the Huskers were the only Power Five program to make an official overture, which was a key factor.

Smothers took an unofficial visit to Lincoln on June 13 and said he thought about committing then. Ohio State reached out a couple days later and gave him reason to pause, but the Buckeyes accepted the verbal pledge of another quarterback since then."

When I mentioned give him a shot, I was referring to giving him some snaps some time during the dura of the game..

I never was attempting to suggest he should be given a shot to start especially the last game of two of the year...

Smothers was offered in May of his 10th grade year, committed in July, Ole Miss offered 2 months later & recruited him the entire time, even convinced him to attend the egg bowl that Jr year. They didn’t come in late. Louisville offered was posted & they offered before he got home from his Nebraska trip that he committed on, & we still have folks that have no idea about his recruitment. LOL
No way to know what “offers” were made. He was quoted sometime beginning of his JR. Year right after his Ole Miss offer that he was done posting anymore offers & he was 100% sticking with us (& Coach Frost/Coach Verdu) and would not take any official visits except the one he would take to Nebraska. I always admired him for that. I told my son about it & used it as an example about what commitment meant and how it’s more than just being about you (he is a young athlete). It was reported during his senior year that Ole Miss, Auburn, FSU, Ga Tech, NC, OHio st, Kentucky were still trying to flip him but he held true to his word about us being the only official visit. Baylor & Arizona St was also reported trying to get him on campus during Sr. Season but also told them no. So are we as a fan base now declares how good a player is by the offers that we “know” about?
McKenzie Milton only had 3 offers, Hawaii, Air Force, & Central Florida. That’s it. So are we saying he wasn’t good, not a P5 QB, someone to be very critical of?????
I don’t care who all offered that we don’t know about, doesn’t change anything. He IS going to be a great QB for us before he leaves.

My quote above was from Smothers AFTER he commited to NU.
I was Going on your 1st paragraph & making the point all that info was before he even stepped foot into school to begin his 11th grade year. But folks are using it as if it was at the end of his senior year & nothing else was reported about any other school interested other than what he had as a sophomore.
