yes but they have had 4 decades of playing winning FB seasons going to 4 RB's and 2 Orange Bowls.
And only one of those Major Bowls or New Years 6 Bowls Iowa has won..
Major accomplishment let’s us all here give you Herkys a round of applause..
yes but they have had 4 decades of playing winning FB seasons going to 4 RB's and 2 Orange Bowls.
Decent recruiting. Nothing ground breaking. Minnesota level.
Iowa won by 3 against a 1st year Nebraska team. Kirk sure is a great coach. Laughing
OSU was definitely down this year.Urban beat Forst by 5, what's your point?
C'mon now one minute they are playing tough ball, look more like a 10 win team, hung with OSU, yada yada. Now Iowa beat a terrible UNL team with a first year HC, so which is it?
OSU was definitely down this year.
Iowa needed a last second FG to beat a 4-7 team at home in year 1. That's sad
Seriously, why would you waste the time post all of this on a Husker board? People around here ***** about top 20 classes. No one cares about iowa recruiting, you aren't going to impress anyone here. Good for you if you are happy about it though.the classes in the 50's are about gone. last seasons team had these as the top playmakers
JR QB Stanley
RSSO RB Young
SO RB Sarbeant
SO RB Kelly-Martin
SO WR Brando Smith
SO WR Smith-Marsette
RSSO TE Hockenson Mackey Award winner who has yet to decide between going Pro or returning
The Tackles LT RSSO Jackson
RT SO Wirfs
will be here for 2 more years
on defense
these return
SO DE Epenesa who recorded 9.5 sacks
RSJR DE Anthony Nelson who also recorded 9.5 sacks
JR DT Lattimore
RSSO OLB Niemann
JR MLB Welch
RSFR WLB Colbert
CB SO Hankins
CB RSJR Ojemuda
FS SO Stone
SS JR Hooker
that made 11 total RSSO/SO that played and 10 players on defense that is 7th in Rush defense
6th in total defense
the defense is what makes Iowa go and Iowa led the BT in INT. tied for 1st in the FBS in INT's. the backups were all true FR. that is what you have to worry about.
They were Iowa bad. Compared to Riley bad, they were great.K, so taking the side of Nebraska was bad all year. Got it. No longer can say they hung with OSU because they were down. Anyone else have thoughts?
I think you're an idiot. I really don't know wtf you are trying to argue. You started by trashing the Big 8 by the way, if that helps. Carry on tho, it's some funny ****.K, so taking the side of Nebraska was bad all year. Got it. No longer can say they hung with OSU because they were down. Anyone else have thoughts?

Iowa peaked
I never said a potential 10 win team.Lol, that got you in a bind. Which was it? Potential ten win team with some bad breaks, or just a bad 4-8 year that Iowa beat.
Probably actually worse since it tied up a scholarshipWhat? Who cares if you can pull them in, if they don't stick around, don't qualify or leave before they play, it's no different than never being signed to begin with.
If I sign 10 4 stars and lose 5, and another team signs 6 and loses 1. We both have five 4-stars. My recruiting rankings will look great, but I not necessarily my talent level.
The OP is talking about "talent level" not recruiting rankings.
They are ranked #49 as of today. If that is an improvement -what were they before?
I think it's fair to say that both Iowa and Northwestern overachieve based on recruiting ranking. In my opinion, that's because they have a solid coaching staff and consistency in training methods, and they play tough hard-nosed football, which never goes out of style. In addition, they identify some diamonds-in-the-rough that turn out to be All-Americans.I believe my post said beyond 2019. The Cats already have hit two of their targets for 2021. We're usually ranked somewhere in the 40s. The Rivals rankings depend partially on quantity as well as quality of recruit, so a school bringing in 23-24 players, typical in the SEC for example, is always going to have a leg up on on an 18-19 player Northwestern class, even when we hit four-star guys. And once you get past the top 15 or so programs who are bringing in most of the five-star guys and a lot of the four-stars, how accurate really are these rankings? Is the 30th ranked class really better than No. 39, or even No. 50 for that matter. If you believe rankings over the years, Northwestern probably should have been last or second to last in the standings every year. That hasn't happened — not even close. I have a lot of respect for the Nebraska programs and expect the Huskers, along with the rest of our division, will be upping their game the next few years. Obviously, Nebraska has a great football history and fan base. I hope our teams can get to a level where we take down the big 3 in the East once in a while and shut them up.
true but you ignore they were beat by a team made up of FR, RSFR, SO, RSSO and true JR's. they will be returning a 1st Team AA by the AP. 1 2nd team AA and the Mackey Award winner in TE RSSO Hockenson/ 1st Team AA/Decent recruiting. Nothing ground breaking. Minnesota level.

Nebraska's best players are young as well. Most of the recruited upper classmen transfered out the last few years.true but you ignore they were beat by a team made up of FR, RSFR, SO, RSSO and true JR's. they will be returning a 1st Team AA by the AP. 1 2nd team AA and the Mackey Award winner in TE RSSO Hockenson/ 1st Team AA/
6 All BT players. of those 6 There is only one RSSR that is leaving.
Isn't Fant a junior? Or he wasn't all BIG 10? I think you need to move along chief.true but you ignore they were beat by a team made up of FR, RSFR, SO, RSSO and true JR's. they will be returning a 1st Team AA by the AP. 1 2nd team AA and the Mackey Award winner in TE RSSO Hockenson/ 1st Team AA/

I liked how Iowa got pushed around on D. Looked like Nebraska's D. Laughingthe game is won in the trenches and this is where Iowa is getting their 4* and 1 5* player

LT Kallenberg 4* RSFR

OL Endres 4*
DE Epenesa 5* US Army AA

4* CB Brents startec this last fall as a true FR.
4* S Cradieth RS'd
QB Petras 4* QB out of California.
the recruiting is improving and it is going National in recruiting.
Iowa is not growing stagnant nor is it going fall back.
NW just had a 5* QB transfer in from Clemson. teams in the West are all improving the level of talent that they are bringing in.
You just said you had 6 all B10 players and only a rs senior was leaving. You don't have any 1st team AP AA's returning either. I'm done, thanks for the laughs.Fant was a 3rd Team AA and All BT but he is going Pro this spring. so no I didn't forget Fant as he is not coming back and this is about who is coming back

The guy you’re responding too isn’t worth your energy. He is an outcast on Iowa boards who has been banned under probably a dozen usernames. Trust me, it’s better to put him on ignore.Seriously, why would you waste the time post all of this on a Husker board? People around here ***** about top 20 classes. No one cares about iowa recruiting, you aren't going to impress anyone here. Good for you if you are happy about it though.

Talent in the West looks to be getting better. But Iowa runs the stone-age schemes
I don't think Frosty would call any of that pushing around. He also stated Iowa is a lot stronger & more physical, so there was no pushing around by anything Nebraska did that day.
OSU was definitely down this year.
Iowa needed a last second FG to beat a 4-7 team at home in year 1. That's sad
It was greatly improved from Mike Riley and the beginning of the season but not even close to the final Frost productBut reading this board throughout the season - and again, I live here and have friends and family that root for Nebraska so I like to keep up with the goings on of the Huskers - it seemed like "This wasn't the same Nebraska team the last half of the season as it was the first half." So which is it? Was it a greatly improved Nebraska team Iowa beat on Black Friday that was able to take OSU to the wire in the Horseshoe and hold MSU to 6 points the week before, or was it a bad 4-7 Nebraska team that didn't improve throughout the year? And if it was the latter - Nebraska was 4-7 and didn't improve an iota from Mike Reilly's 4 win season the year before... What exactly is it Iowa fans are supposed to be so nervous about again?
I'm a Husker fan on my own board, take a hike dumba$$.

Nebraska hasn't had that sort of consistency of philosophy and purpose for at least 15 years, so we've seen some down years, particularly in the last four seasons. When Nebraska had that sort of consistency and hard-nosed philosophy, we won national championships. We're hoping that this new coaching staff will bring both, and if they can continue to out-recruit Iowa and Northwestern, we'll finally have that advantage over those programs — for the first time since we joined the Big Ten.
Unfortunately for us, it's still all on paper. Let's hope it translates onto the field sooner rather than later. SOME Iowa fans are insufferable.
Let me guess: 8-4? Awesome.the game is won in the trenches and this is where Iowa is getting their 4* and 1 5* player

Iowa held Nebraska to its third lowest offensive output with Martinez as QB, a lot lower than most of Nebraska’s other games. I’m confused how Iowa got pushed around?I liked how Iowa got pushed around on D. Looked like Nebraska's D. Laughing

Oh snap, now you did it. Using facts is not a good idea when discussing football with Iowa fan. I’ve had money on Iowa going 8-5 since June so unfortunately I have to root against our big ten friends this bowl season. Iowa was good to my non traditional retirement fund this season, I bet against them 4 times and including the Nebraska game and won all 4. Betting on them to go 8-5 wasn’t exactly going out on a limb, but I did bet it in June. And without leading receiver JD Spielman playing, need to figure that into the equation
Maybe, but until you do the math, you are just guessing.
edit -
If you just take the guys who didn't make it last cycle, plus Blades, and just the guys who left from the 2017 class, you are down 945 points.
Nebraska will win more games than iowa in the next two years. Let's wager on it.
We're using bagmen now guys. Don't assume coach Todd Alquist is taking the crown Lurk
not likely as Iowa has improved their recruiting
2017 2 US Army AA
2018 1 US Army AA
2019 1 AA formerly the US Army AA
the last 2 were only 3*'s by Rivals,
LB Jacobs just got a offer from OSU and he turned them down.
Iowa does not need to recruit Nebraska as they have expended their area's into Georgia, Missippippi, Alabama, adding them to these as regular recruiting.
Texas where they have a 4* QB committed by 247 and ESPN in the 2020 class.
California where 4* QB Petras is from who is RS'ing.
in 2012 Kirk started to over haul his staff and now the only ones left from that group before 2012 is KF and Phil Parker. that makes 9 new coaches over the last 5 years.
during the biggest time of the over haul the recruiting classes looked like this
2013 53rd by Rivals
2014 59th by Rivals
2015 58th by Rivals
now that the majority has been in place
2016 42nd 8 true FR played
2017 40th 10 true FR played and or started
2018 40th 6 played and or started 40th be Rivals and 39th by 247
2019 45th by Rival with 16 commits, 37th by 247 and 32nd by ESPN
in the 2019 class these are the 4* players by 247
OL Miller
OL Endres
OLB Jacobs the AA who will enroll on January 10th 5 days after playing in the AA Game
all these are 3* players by Rivals.
so before people start claiming that Iowa is going to fall back and/or Kirk is unwilling to change better rethink their position that notion.
Then write an opinion post on what you believe Frosts recruiting will be like. Don’t bring up specific numbers as a way to prove that Nebraska has better overall talent based on recruiting numbers from the last 4 years when large chunks of those classes are gone. You can’t say Riley’s classes were all smoke and mirrors then use the numbers from this classes as proof Nebraska has more talent than the rest of the west division. Jmho
so did I, but I was going off the fact that Iowa was replacing all 3 LB'rs one a 1st Team AA in MLB 2* Jewel a 3 year full time starter who is now starting for the Green PackersOh snap, now you did it. FnA buddy, looks like a playoff team to me. Look out bama.so did I, but I was going off the fact that Iowa was replacing all 3 LB'rs one a 1st Team AA in MLB 2* Jewel a 3 year full time starter who is now starting for the Green Packers
OLB 2* Nieman another 3 year starter and is now starting for the Chiefs
WLB Bower another 3 year starter
1st Team AA CB 2* Jackson as a true JR was a 2nd round draft pick and is starting for the Packers
C 4* Daniels who left as a true JR 2nd round draft pick and now a starter for the Bears.
that was a lot of talent that left the 2017 team.
to the poster who said Iowa does not return a 1st Team AA, that is false as TE 2* Hockenson is returning.
the difference now they are getting high 3* and low 4* players and I am looking forward to seeing how they do with 3*/4* players vs 2* players.
since KF took over they have a avg of 45.7 class recruiting ranking and yet they have
2 shared BT Championships
1 BT West Division Title
2 8-0 BT finishes
5 top 10 finishes
1 #20 finish
7-8 in bowl games
3 losing records in the regular season
1-10 1st year
3-8 2nd year
4-8 in 2012.
7-5 vs Michigan
8-6 vs PSU
Wisconsin it even
MSU its even
only OSU has a big advantage [but don't they have that vs BT teams] I came here to talk about the future not the past
What you say is true, however, it has provided a baseline on recruiting as far as the B1G west. Attrition, especially during a transition year, is an anomaly to the overall recruiting. I believe most teams see it after coaching turnover.
I think our "talent" is average for the B1G west because of the attrition, but signing better talent has been established.
