the run/pass threat didn't work well enough for Osborne because even in those days the recruiting inbalance made it almost impossible for us to get a good enough QB and good enough RB's and good enough WR's to threaten the schools who could recruit the kind of speed to defend that.
So Osborne added the QB run into that mix as his innovation -- Power, Option, passing enough to threaten the safeties and force them to make tough decisions.
The option is slow. Pitches go bad QB's get killed. Hell. Frost said explicitly he had only two QB's ready yesterday.
One coming off an injury and one injured in his first play. No disrespect to Matt Masker.
At least someone admits recruiting imbalance. I hope you acknowledge it still exists today.
