The most epic movie saga of all time? I'll take it.

Lol... not exactly where I was going with that... :D

Before I posted it, I deletes the sucks art that always follows on this board.

After I posted it, I thought I would catch some grief from the star wars fans because I hate star wars...

Funny, because now that you posted the last line, you will get some grief from Star Wars fans. :)

Is everyone in this thread over 50? What exactly didn't you like about it? It's far superior to most Star Wars movies. People are just butthurt that it doesn't keep the same old story lines rolling. It was a fresh take and had many great moments. It's a movie that will be appreciated more in time.

That movie blew butt gravy. They should have stopped after Revenge of the Jedi...but it's a money grab and we fall for it every time....

I love the original Star Wars trilogy but if other want to say it sucks I have no problem with that. Everyone has different taste. Episode 4,5, & 6 were good imo. Everything after is a load of hot garbage.

Never understood when it became "cool" to like video games and make believe outer space movies that seem to almost be the same movie over and over again. Yet alone breathlessly buy tickets months in advance and have life revolve around a movie opening
Thank God my youngest is 11 and I won't have to sleep through many more of these

I remember seeing the lines down the block at the Indian hills theatre when the first one came out
A month later when I finally saw it
Couldn't figure out all the hoopla was about from Anyone not in band or the computer club lol

The special effects in episodes 4-6 are laughable compared to episodes 7&8.

Yeah, they would be interchangeable for me. Both were very good.

Just saw Last Jedi, and it was pretty much very ordinary. Still better than all the prequels, so I would put it behind the original 3 and The Force Awakens.

1. Rogue 1 or Empire Strikes Back
3. A New Hope
4. Return of the Jedi
5. The Force Awakens
6. The Last Jedi
*
*
*
23. The 3 Prequels. I can't even remember the names of them, which I'm thankful for.
I'd have the rewatch the prequels but Last Jedi is the worst one for me right now

Last Jedi was full of contrived plot points and plot holes with terrible comedic effect. The writing was average at best and very poor at times. Killed the lore

It's basically an out with the old in with the new movie. Anything associated with the past has been destroyed and removed. Symbolic of the so called progressive world we live in.

Luke's characteristics for starters.
He's had a hard knock life man. Dad killed lots of people, including his mom, threatened to kill him and his sister, aunt and uncle were massacred, he almost diddled his sister, both of his mentors died, his nephew freaked out and killed most of his students, despite destroying the empire mostly, the First Order came right back up in it's place, he's allowed to have some bad days.

I thought the movie was very well done. The casino scene stuff dragged a bit but it was made up for by the rest. The storytelling of Luke's weakness and fear and how he failed Kylo Ren was top notch storytelling. Gotta hand it to Mark Hamill. He did a superb job in the movie. He hasn't had a starring role in a feature film in like 30 years and he knocked it out of the park.

Growing up the movie that all the kids wanted to see what a proper Star Wars sequel that tells the story of what happens to Luke after Return of the Jedi... now we finally have it.

The original trilogy defined my entire childhood, but I'm fine streaming it at home in a few months.

Except Disney's explanation on why Luke is the way he is now is because he wanted to commit premeditated murder on his nephew who is the son of Han and Leia.... Yea this movie blew.

Yeah, God forbid they give his character some depth and have him show a moment of weakness and vulnerability.

I'm glad I didn't spend a dime on that poorly produced film.
The Star Wars movie and video game this year were epic disappointments.

No sense in debating the plot... but the Shark was jumped a long, long time before the portrayal of Luke in this movie.

I'm not debating the plot. I have an issue with the plot, but in this thread it is about character develoment. That wasn't Luke Skywalker. Hamill even knows it.

Actually it was character development. If he came out with his laser sword and sliced up a bunch of storm troopers and saved the day again, how would his character be developing?

Instead, he bought into his status as the galaxy-saving jedi, became prideful and it lead to his downfall and shame. He was able to make things right at the end. It was a very interesting portrayal and Hamill did a great job. Like it or not, that is now the Luke Skywalker story.

Now... killing off Snoke without learning one bit of information on his backstory??? Lame.

Hamill did do a good job. But even he hates where they took Luke. It isn't in his character to be scared of a teenager and to think of committing pre mediated murder. No matter what you or Disney says.

Scared of a teenager or scared of being responsible for training and unleashing another Darth Vader??

Committing pre-meditated murder or preventing all that death and destruction??

Yoda told us that fear leads to the dark side. In a moment of weakness, Luke was afraid that Kylo would be a new Vader and instantaneously regretted pulling his lightsaber.

Movie was about passing the guard off to a new generation which I have no problem with. I just think they could have done it a better way other than centering it around the failure of men. It was almost disrespectful lol..

Every male figure in the film was made to look weak, cowardly, self consumed, dumb and bitter. Every woman was the opposite. When did the feminist movement take over? I mean what was he trying to do here?

They made Luke look like the angry curmudgeon who lost his way and was jealous of the i.e Millennials. Kinda sounds like the Husker board lol.. 90's vs the new school.. Honestly on second watch it wasn't as bad as initially but the things I hated the first time around I hated the 2nd.

Too many plot holes and senseless scenes for my liking. So many references to killing off the old. It almost seemed like a personal attack old star wars fans and patriarchy.. I'd move it slightly above revenge of the sith.

I know that Star Wars universe doesn’t apply to the new movies, but mug of what they did with Luke in this movie had occurred in the expanded universe in the comic books and novels written over the years since return of the Jedi.

If you know this, then this characterization of Luke is not surprising.

I liked 7 better. And they killed off the wrong character, IMO. Han Solo could sell these movies better to a child of the 70s Star Wars fan.

That's not what happened though. He for one second contemplated it, but he changed his mind, Ben freaked as it happened and then did what he did.

He ignited his lightsaber. It isn't in his character to ignite his lightsaber and not use it. He is at the minimum taking a limb.

If you listened to his explanation of what happened, he said he only had the thought momentarily, but by the time he had calmed down, Ben woke up and attacked.

Harrison Ford didn't want to be involved in it anymore. He's always wanted Solo to get killed off.
