“It’s getting to the point where I would not be surprised if they shifted all athletics to the spring,” continues Shalala

I don’t get why people keep saying this...what’s magic about spring? Yes, if by some miracle Covid “goes away” then maybe it makes sense. I seem to remember being locked in my house this past spring.
College football in the spring would be a farce. Anyone with a chance at being drafted ain’t playing.

Being able to vaccinate those at risk by spring.... Or if sports are the most important thing, the players...

We are going to play football this year and we are going to have fans. The fact that you still haven't been able to figure this out yet is mind boggling. Our governor is not going to stop SEC football.

And how do you know this? If CFB starts this fall, there will be no fans at first. Now way we finish the season this fall. Let's look at the MLB now with COVID and the Marlins and see what happens.

Defy health experts by playing baseball basketball golf and soccer???

I sometimes think L4 loves all the negativity. You literally post something negative in every thread related to sports

Sometimes? Why do you only recognize the obvious some of the time?

That's really funny. I get blasted regularly for being overly positive during football season.

Anyone that emphatically sAys we will play it won't play right now is just talking with an empty head. The SEC and MSU are making plans to play, as they should. They won't be the ones who make the decision though. That will be the governments in the states, and possibly even in the local areas. The people that will decide it don't know one way or another right now. Now for predictions with no real knowledge of how the powers that be are thinking here are the odds as I see it as if today: starting the season 70% at some point, finishing it as scheduled the day we start 55%; any fans in the stadium; 50%; full capacity 0%.

The local areas are going to say play if they get an option. Just too important to their economies.

As far as the SEC not making the decision, I don't know. Mississippi is going to play if the SEC plays. Nobody in government is going to trash MSU and Ole Miss's finances voluntarily. LSU, and Alabama/Auburn will make the decision for Louisiana and Alabama. Not sure about Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, FLorida, Kentucky, or South Carolina. I would assume their universities have a lot of clout, but don't know if they can steam roll any opposition like the could in Louisiana or Alabama. Just don't know their dynamics. I think it will help that Georgia and FLorida seem to have reasonable governors. If FLorida, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, and Mississippi say they are going to play, that's 7 teams. A six game schedule is doable and could give ESPN enough games to fill the best time slots over say a 12 week schedule? If that's going to happen and the remaining schools are at risk of losing out on any TV revenue, they are going to be putting a lot of pressure on their state governments.

Unless we find out some bad news about long term effects from mild cases of COVID, I think it's going to be hard to justify having players take the vaccine by the spring. Just not sure if they can reasonably prove its safety by then.

Good grief, they are already starting to surface. Think even a little decreased lung function or lingering fatigue might be bad for an athletic career? Now I agree it would be hard to justify giving it to a young athlete at first. They should probably be very near the end of the line as far as that goes.

We already have three in phase three clinical trials with several more close, that is unheard of and amazingly fast. I think you will see at least one becoming widely available in 1st quarter 21. Governments have bankrolled pre-approval mass production of at least two of them.

You are going to have to explain this to me....

Is your argument that the vaccine (which exposes you to a form of the virus) is worse than actually getting the virus?

Do you feel the same way about all vaccines?

There are 13 vaccines in Phase 2 with 5 in Phase 3 trials.

All we need is 1.

Now the real problem is can we make enough, and who gets it first?

Per most of the posters on here, it should be the Sports players.

You realize that other things beyond the actual virus itself goes into vaccines, right? And that sometimes those ingredients can cause adverse reactions? It's why you used to be (and sometimes still are?) asked if you are allergic to eggs before receiving the flu shot.

Maybe they can basically exchange nothing but the virus out for an existing vaccine such that we already more or less know what the potential adverse reactions are and their prevalence. Not sure if that's doable or not. But I would suspect college athletes will have one of the highest if not highest hurdles to clear as far as proving it does more good than harm. Maybe that doesn't matter if they can create a vaccine similar enough to an existing one that they don't need to worry much about adverse effects. But if they can't do that, then healthy people in their late teens or early 20's might have a low enough rate of complications and mortality that it will take a while to generate enough data to show that it's potential benefits outweigh the potential risks.

Also, do you think that the CDC is full of anti-vaxxers? Is that why you think it usually takes years to move from stage three trials to market? THey have all these vaccines that obviously must be safer than the virus itself, and they're just requiring years of testing because they are conspiracy theorists?

I generally am receptive to the argument that the FDA's incentives are bad and that encourages them to err badly on the side of "caution" when it comes to approving (or not) drugs and vaccines, but I think your skepticism is getting a little out there and I don't think they are refusing to approve obviously safe vaccines and drugs.

Getting to Phase Three this quick is moving at warp speed. We have never had a vaccine development with this much money thrown at it. This is almost Manhattan Project level money. Developers all over the world are having money almost literally backed to up to the door in semi dump trucks and dumped all over them.

Incorrect. I and my loved ones should get it first, then Mississippi State athletes, then my friends, then the Miami Dolphins, then everyone else.

You know they have done this before? Right?

And you obviously don't know why that ask you about being allergic to eggs if you get a flu shot (hint it's where they grow the virus they inject into you) It's actually a State secret where we get all the eggs.

They use the same process for MMR, Yellow Fever, and Rabies...

One of the Covid phase 3 trials is using the type of vaccine we developed for Ebola and Hepatitis,

No, I think you are an Anti_Vaxxer. The CDC usually takes years because it's expensive to research vaccines that's why there is not a vaccine for SARS, we (the USA) stopped funding it in 2016.... and People like you think the government can run on pennies because "there is so much corruption".

And with CoVID, there are BILLIONS invested and Trillions at stake for getting a vaccine fast....

With the Marlin's news today, thinking we will have more than players families as fans at games is a dream. and even that is just a hope.

You might want to mentally prepare yourself for not having football....

You might want to mentally prepare yourself to ***** and moan about how you’re all upset that we are having sports, Dan Woken.

You ha e no idea how I'm living my life. It's pretty normal actually. We did have to cancel our vacation....but it's kind of hard to do a cruise in Europe right now....impossible actually.

Did you just equate the importance of military training with a football game? Surely you didn't. That has to go on, football is a game.

I know you spend the majority of your life arguing on a sports message board about why we won’t be having sports.

THOSE are your sources? REALLY? Are we going to the Rose Bowl this year? By the way, I pay that too. They don't know anything real yet either, and I'm talking about Tate and Cohen. We will plan to do it, but that call likely won't be made for real till near the end of next month. It can still happen, if you look up the page and actually read and understand what I wrote, which you never do, you will see I still think it's more likely we play than not. It's not a sure thing by any means though. It will depend on how things go between now and then.

Every single time I’m on this website you have the entire board covered in covid “we aren’t going to play sports” posts. What I said is true. Even the part I deleted (didn’t delete because it wasn’t true, deleted because it could have gotten me in trouble). I’m sure you know more about that than me as well though, coronabro. We are going to play football. Get over it.

Interesting, a lot of people react with aggression when they fear something. It helps if you realistically look at things instead of posturing and getting all upset about things you disagree with. If we play I'll be enjoying it just like you. Just like I have the EPL and MLB. Well, not tonight in MLB. The Braves are getting spanked. Renfro Jacked one to open the floodgates.

Hint to relax a little, I view this place as entertainment, you too.

The crew at 247 has ten times better sources than anyone on this board, to include the people that own this board (and they will probably admit that). They have put out some pretty major hints that the chances of us not playing football are near zero and they are getting that from people that can’t say that sort of thing on the record because people like the resident coronabro who buy their ink by the barrel will have a ***** fit.

Once again, I am on record above as saying it's more likely we play than not. Anyone that says it's a sure thing RIGHT NOW either way doesn't have a clue. That decision has not been made and won't be made for a few more weeks. There is no doubt that they intend to play. If they can the will. I'm sure they are watching baseball very, very closely. They are the only one not attempting a bubble type approach of some kind. That's the only possible route for college sports.

This is hilarious. College football is happening. Anyone claiming “NoThInG hAs BeEn DeCiDeD” is clueless about the economics of the situation. We are playing because it’s dangerous to zero % of the people playing the game and the people in charge know that. They aren’t going to come out and call people like the resident coronabro an idiot. They are going to pacify them until the last minute and then they are going to play like they knew they would for the past 4 months.

2 weeks of military training is not nearly as important as the economic impact on Starkville and every other city that will shut down and turn into a ghost town of football season were to be cancelled. The fact that you think annual training is anywhere near that impactful tells me you do not in fact know anything about the military.
