Dear, God.. of all the bad ideas...
Seriously. Doesn't he know all we grow is corn now.**
Dear, God.. of all the bad ideas...
Then we can have one less thing to fuss about.
And changing the flag will improve the illiteracy, obesity, and poverty in the state. I’m sure all those business conventions and NCAA tournaments will be lining up to come to Jackson. The only reason they haven’t been here before is the flag.**
ETA: I’m with you on not glorifying the confederate states, I just think blaming the flag for problems in the state is complete nonsense and changing the flag will do nothing to improve any of those problems. But if you want to put a new poncho on a fat chick so she’ll look better, go ahead. I don’t think people that make fun of Mississippi and those that live there will change their opinions at all based on whatever is on the flag. That’s not why they’re laughing or avoiding doing business in Mississippi. If they wanted to do business here, they would. See the auto industry.
November is the perfect time to put it on the ballot for vote. It’s time to stop using 2001 as a reason to no longer discuss this. The world is a different place since 2001.
Of the choices, I like the magnolia flag the best. The magnolia itself needs work. Doesn’t even look like a magnolia. Maybe just use a magnolia bloom? The rest of the flag is good.
I like this one because it represents symbols associated with Mississippi, not just generic stars.
Second choice would be stennis or Bonnie blue.
We need something uniquely ours.
Flags that are unique that I like:
Alabama
California (what animal would we use?)
Tennessee
Texas
South Carolina (palmetto symbol)
I do not care at all what other people think. I want to change the flag because it's the right thing to do for all MISSISSIPPI'S citizens (not other state's citizens).
Maybe you should ask yourself why you soooooo desire the approval of others.
Here is your starting list. Might as well succumb to all of it and get it done now. Places and Names in Mississippi in honor of Confederates.
Y'all are nuts. That list doesn't even include the segregationists or all the native-american names that are appropriated. Might as well change the name of the state, the river, all of it. Doesn't matter that none of that stuff from the past exists anymore.
It puts the national eye on MS and a **** ton of pressure on all its citizens. Theres a pretty good chance it gets voted down if left up to the people. Talk about embarrassing to this state. That would do us under. No way Tater needs to leave it up to a vote.
Change it now and the national media will give us grace. Maybe even allow us to gain some momentum that leads to some positive recognition.
Leave it up to a vote and we're ******. Change it now and people might start taking this state seriously.
I am all for legally changing that stupid flag. But if the Legislature just decides to do it outside of the will of the people, so be it. But I will also be for the Legislature censoring your free speech, and anyone else on here that thinks the legislature should go around the people. I have some great flag ideas that exclude anything relative to the stupid confederate flag. But we need to vote. If you can get away with voting multiple times to make sure it is removed, I don’t care. But I trust the people who supported that thing in 2001 have mostly passed away or at least are too senile to even vote this time. But give the people of this State some viable options to replace that horrid thing by letting them vote.
Good, glad they’re removing the name of notable treasonous and slave holding ******* that wanted to leave the US known as Jefferson Davis. That street runs right next to HBCU Xavier, whose students should not have to drive on a road named after a guy that wanted to continue owning their ancestors as property. For all the downvotes that I got from my post a couple of spots up. I don’t care one bit about the MS flag. Change it, don’t change it, whatever. Just don’t expect changing the flag to change a thing.
Which alternative to do you guys like? Images at bottom of this article

I like the Stennis version.
I can't look at the Magnolia and not thing I'm looking at a 2nd grade powerpoint template with a tree in the middle for some reason

Hell, most CITIES have their own flags. The change needs to happen, but why the 17 does every state need a flag anyway? It’s the dumbest **** to begin with. Fly the US flag and be done with it. State flags don’t mean ****.

Statues of catfish, Elvis, and Jimmy BuffetAnything that shows off the best of what our state has done, and has to offer, let's build statues and put it on flags.
Anything that could reasonably be viewed as a hate symbol, let's tuck that away into a museum to preserve the history and culture.
