Oh, so now we support refs and announcers, lol?

Those same refs missed multiple initiated body leans by the same guy. Elbows to the gut. Announcers, haha...Bill Rafferty, good lord. This board? Questionable...at best.

Look, my point is a flop is when there is no contact. Think the kid at Louisville or Grayson Allen. Again, Wheeler got bumped, hitz whatever you want to call it...he tried to sell it. He didn't act like he got shot. It should have been a no call or offensive...JJ initiated contact.

Did JJ hit Wheeler? Yes or no? I don't give a **** if it was barely. Answer the question.
Your comments are the equivalent of the flop Wheeler tried to pull off tonight in MSG. LOL!
In my very first comment in this thread I said he GRAZED Wheeler. Watching the broadcast you'd have though Wheeler was hit by a truck. EVERYONE who saw it thought the same thing. There is all kinds of contact in a basketball game that doesn't get called. It was a no-call at best. When Wheeler dropped to the floor like he had been shot, the refs HAD to call a flop tech. It was blatantly obvious to everyone!
When Dook guys do the EXACT SAME THING we cry and moan about the refs letting them get away with it. Now a UK player does it and all of a sudden it shouldn't be called???
Just take off your blue-tinted glasses.

But did they give us a warning prior to the call?

That wasn't a flop. He got hit by a guy that is a foot taller than him and probably has 40 lbs on him. Tell ya what...go find someone measuring that size compared to you and see what happens.

Go watch the replay...he definitely took a hit. He tried to sell it but there was contact.
In Wheeler's defense, he IS softer than Charmin, and seems to spend a lot of time getting knocked down

It is about 50/50 on what people think. Go look at Twitter. Everyone isn't agreeing with you.

It should have been:

1. No call
2. Push off
3. Block
4. Flop

Again, JJ initiated contact. You still haven't answered the question because you know the answer...did he make and initiate contact with Wheeler? I will help you, yes he did. Wheeler tried to sell the foul. It was a foul on JJ. He extended his arm. They could have called a flop or charge on Livingston play in game too.

You are being obtuse.

If there was any contact, it was minimal; thus, it was a flop by definition

I didn’t even know you could get a tech for it it’s happened so many times against us
Last year it was a warning for the first flop and a technical on the second flop

this year it is a technical for the first flop

less flops this year for sure

****** officiating

These calls are way too subjective. We already have to deal with the slide in charge which is a BS call but on top of that an offensive player can initiate contact (JJ and Livingston did) but one is called a flop and the other a no call. Honestly I was waiting on the charge for the Livingston play. JJ pushed with the elbow on multiple occasions, one vs Oscar stood out.

Nonetheless, I don't think this play impacted the game all that much. You can't score like a JV team and expect to win. All I am saying is this wasn't a flop where no one got touched, this is something that happened at least 5-10 times in this game alone.

For all the idiots here screaming “it was obviously a flop and should be a technical!!!!1!!1!”

Please give me 3 more examples this year of technicals being called on flops.

I’ll wait.

Hey, I saw two other flops called today alone in games. I suspect if you fire up Google, you can find a lot more. Wheeler flipped. He flew back almost 10 fr (literally). The other dude barely touched him. This is exactly what they are trying to prevent. Wheeler was gonna get torched by that dude anyway. Jesus.

Cracking down on flopping is a new point of emphasis this year. Which is why you didn’t see it called in the past. Wheeler would not have gotten the T for this one in past years.

Jaquez is literally a foot taller than Wheeler. Folks are throwing around "barely", "shot by a rifle", etc....

Guessing they never played a sport. When someone substantially larger than you hits you at all it can send ya sailing. Wheeler got right up. He wasn't "shot"...he was bumped and got up. He was off balance and took a forearm. This isn't that hard.

IMO, there was enough contact to justify a non-call, rather than a technical, but no matter how you slice it, that call, and the and-1 foul on Ware on UCLA's next offensive possession, halted Kentucky's comeback momentum. You can't complain too much about the officiating in a game where both of UCLA's bigs were essentially neutralized with fouls, but damn, those two fouls at a critical juncture had a big impact on the outcome of the game.

I have seen this movie so many times I know it by heart. UK ahead late in a game and go on 3-4 minute scoring drought and lose, in this case around 4 :30 , and lose. Granted we only had a 1 point lead this time but I have seen us lose like this with bigger leads. Cal is the worst late game Manger in big time basketball.

It was 100% a flop. The technical was the right call and whoever taught or told him to do that crap should be fired.
See I’m fine with that IF it happened elsewhere. It doesn’t. And it’s happened to us sooooo many times.

So Eff the officials for that. If you’re going to call if fine. But call it for everybody.

As an aside, If they’re gonna get hardass on the flop, I’d like to see them make a rule about the shooter who has no angle and so steps into a defender in the air in an otherwise non-basketball move, like Jaquez did in the second half. If you’re in the act of shooting, great, but to reposition to invent a foul is no better than flopping, IMO.

I've seen it called in a couple other games this year. Once was in a Iu vs. somebody game very early in the season. It's supposedly a point of emphasis this season.

Dude found another way to hurt his team tonight.

Get abused on D. Check.
Have numerous turnovers. Check.
Make passes that cause teammates to turn the ball over. Check.
Airball a floater. Check.

That’s all par for the course. And now he does this.

Riiight. Point of emphasis and that’s the first I’ve seen it called.

Funny how it’s a PoE after K leaves.

I don’t think many argue it was a flop

I’ve seen a warning for flop but never a tech. How we get it and the mountain of them we endure is insane
I believe up until this year it was 1st offense warning, 2nd one a T. It was changed this year to tech on first offense. I remember thinking: Coincidence that the rule change coincides w/ K's retirement?

This. I've watched a bunch of basketball and have witnessed just as many flops. I think I've seen the flop technical called one othe time. Its just another case of an official deciding that people are there to watch him and inserts himself into the game.

You call the flop technical but opponents can absolutely destroy Oscar before a foul is called. It's just one of many examples of why NCAA officials are horrible at their jobs. And I mean across the country. Not just SEC officials or UK games.
