He has had several commitments from HS and portal guys over the last 3-4 years who can't play defense. It doesn't seem like defense has been a priority with this staff.
We have Wheeler and Wallace…both play good defense from the guard position…I’m completely fine with having a scoring punch like Reeves even if his defense is lacking.

glad to have the kid.......... but just to put it into perspective, we are replacing an NBA kid with a not NBA kid... so in the scheme of things my mind wont let me get excited for him too much ... wish we could get Sharpe back and then this kid would get me thrilled as icing on the cake

The way I see it, we probably give up some talent and upside for a more mature player who has averaged over 20ppg on the D1 level. Sharpe hasn't played in a real game in over a season now. It's close, but I think I would take Reeves over Sharpe head up as to who is ready to contribute more for UK next season.

I can't fathom a scenario where the Baylor kid looks at a roster that has: Reeves, CJ, Wallace, Livingston, all 4 playing his position(s) and comes to Lexington. I would wager this turn of events with Reeves hinged on something between UK and Baylor over the last 24 hours. I could be wrong but I would assume he would move to a less crowded roster. Having said that I think Baylor is light years better than CJ so him coming would only further screw CJ but its all the same amount drama however you slice it.
Unless we play him more exclusively at the three, then he is splitting minutes with Livingston more than anyone. I think we still have a chance in terms of PT.

I read elsewhere that Reeves wasn’t happy with the interest UK had in the Baylor kid . So….either the staff backed off BS or they convinced Reeves there was a plan for both he and BS .

Absolutely. Baylor would arguably be the best player out of all of those guys but its still a butterfly effect on the minutes and its still roster competition. I'm betting due to his recent comments on Kansas and the fact that once Baylor hit the portal the "Reeves to UK may not be a done deal" stories all started to conveniently pop up and now 24 hours after Baylor hits the portal and after UK has had time to speak with Baylor all of those reports on Reeves are out the window and he's suddenly committed.
I don't know that it's likely but I'd love to get Baylor, get Toppin back, and call it done unless we're adding guys to be end of bench, develop for future years.

Wheeler, Wallace, Scheierman, Toppin/Livingston, Oscar start. Reeves, CJ, Livingston/Toppin, Collins, Ware as reserves.

I hope so on Wallace but are we talking about the same Wheeler? He ball watches causing him to get beat backdoor a lot. He is too small to switch on any high pick and rolls and is very inconsistent in fighting through screens. He gets steals but also gambles a lot to get them which if it isn't a turnover it can be an easy basket.

Everyone says they want a scorer and I agree we needed another shooter but they must have forgotten in the last 10 games of the season the opposing team had 11 different perimeter players score 17+ on us and we were 6-4 during that stretch. If you eliminate the 2 Florida games it is 11 guys over 8 of the final 10 games and we were 4-4 in those 8 games. Our guards couldn't stop anyone down the stretch.

“I went to Duke's 247 board. The reason Duke is moving on would actually be a reason UK might not be able to work as well. His agent is the same guy as Nigel Pack, who just signed with Miami with a very specific kind of NIL deal that UK is not doing and Barnhart is not yet allowing (using a "collective" of rich guys basically endorsing and giving money like a contract). Duke, according to Rowe, is more giving guys a platform as a Duke player to go get paid by securing advertising opportunities. UK is doing similar.”

That's a huge step forward for me believing we can be a top5 team. My two needs were 1. another wing/guard who can shoot and 2. a backup and/or starting PG that's a little more offensive minded.

We just got #1. Let's see if we can land another transfer PG.

Sharpe was already in the draft. That wasn't a secret. Did you somehow think he wasn't going to be in the draft?
We're not talking about what I thought. We're talking about what Reeves thought and by extension--what the coaches were telling him.

Reeves was a UK lock. Then he wasn't. Then Sharpe is included on the list today and Reeves commits. The person I responded to asked "what changed?"

This being official certainly seems like the biggest change that happened from Tuesday (uncommitted) to Wednesday (committed).

Thanks for the info….but I would say this (I DO NOT WANT TO TALK POLITICS) a great white player at Kentucky is going to have a plethora of advertising opportunities due to the state racial demographics.

We have no idea how good Sharpe would have been as a freshman (or freshman and a half). A complacent and shy kid doesn't strike me as someone who sets the college game on fire when he's 18.. instead someone who comes into his own after a few years in the G-league and then onto the NBA.

Do I take Sharpe over Reeves for next year? Yes, I do. I would roll that dice. But it is in no way a certainly that a freshman Sharpe is better for UK than a Senior Antonio Reeves. And based on what we've seen with Sharpe and his actions.. I'm more than OK with Reeves. Sharpe could actually be a detriment to Kentucky next year for all we know. Maybe he's another BJ Boston. Maybe he quits half way through.. There are risks with him.

Reeves us a good addition to the team. You can see he can get his shot off or get to the basket if crowded. He has good size and looks pretty quick and has good handles, he can play.

no one even knows how much CJ will be able to play or how rusty he will be after sitting out a year

UK must have met his NIL asking price.
There's just no comparison to the kinds of fanatics the state of Kentucky has vs. Oregon or any other state for that matter. NIL deals are probably leagues ahead in value from private KY companies than any company not named Nike in Oregon simply because our fans are nuts about UK basketball.

Not if Oscar's been promised some looks on the perimeter...
He may get the green light to take a 3 or two per game but I don't see Cal pulling him out to the perimeter the majority of time. Pulling the nations leading rebounder away from the basket to roam the 3 point line would be insane but then again it is Calipari and he does some crazy stuff.

It’s funny when the news comes out that Sharpe is on the list of NBA draftees this morning all of a sudden this news comes out too. I’m glad the kid is coming to play for UK because we need some decent kids. Still not a very good trade for a top 10 draft pick for a top 30 portal player especially if we want to challenge for the title.
You should have talked to Sharpe. You are very persuasive

His agent is a diehard UK fan according to what he told Kyle Tucker.

I don't think we're out of this one by a long shot.

I think if you're looking at who replaces who, Reeves is the new Mintz. But no one guy is going to replace Sharpe. You've got to piece it together money ball style.

Maybe Cal doesn't take another point guard right now. I know Dillingham has said he wasn't reclassifing but alot of players wait until after the Peach Jam tournament to announce so they won't be ineligible to play in it.

So if that’s the case he’s all about money and wants to use a school. Nope. Don’t need that. Needs to be mutual. He’s looking for the biggest dollar sign only.

Excuse my ignorance. I don’t know much about this guy at all. But somebody please persuade me to be excited about an Illinois St transfer. I know he averaged 20ppg, but I doubt the competition was very stiff. I just have a hard time getting on board with players from Illinois St and Detroit Mercy being the talent level we need to get us back to where we want to be.

Reeves is a good player.he doesnt have to be the man either. If players come together then scoring should be spread out so that everybody contributes.....or at least I would hope.
Plus I doubt we are done just yet...need at least 2 more
