Could Lakers have interest in Cal?

Lebum would run Cal out of town after their first losing streak lol
Nah because Cal would let the players decide what they wanted to do and basically let Xi-Bron run the team. Then they could lose 50 games but He could pad his stats every game and pass Kareem on the all time list then retire after they waste a spot on his son.

This would actually make many UK fans hate him far less. I’ve actually said Cal might not return for next season. The recruiting situation is odd and the types of players were looking at in the portal. Maybe he’s creating a bridge class for the next coach.

I would cool on him.

But this seems to be the “make them think I’m leaving” charade to make us nervous. And it works on some people too. Look for’m.

I'm not seeing why the Lakers would want him.

The knock on Cal is that he refuses to adapt to a more modern offense. He's still running what he ran in 2012. No one in the NBA plays like that. And you're telling me the NBA wants THAT guy?

We're struggling to find success because of it. But the NBA wants him anyways? I gotta call BS.

We just lost to a bunch of one stars with the NPOY!!

We have been losing the majority of the roster ever season since Triple C arrived.

I‘ll take a roster full of Kentucky born walk ons and a good head coach that cares about winning at UK first!
and you will be wanting him fired within a year

i could see home looking for an exit ramp if he already knows Sharpe isn’t coming back and Wagner is likely leaning UL. Waiting on Wagner is half the reason some of the “pro cal” ppl haven’t turned yet.

Because nba guys today don’t really do much. Cal is actually perfect for the NBA. He’s a good spokesman, the players would trust him, he’s a showtime kind of guy who makes good pr sense.

It’s actually an excellent fit. That’s Lebron’s team Cal is a perfect suit for it. And he’s coached AD, maybe try and make a hire toward getting that magic back.

No way!
I feel like Triple C is holding our once great program hostage with his shyster contract and NBA first mentality!

I‘d be so overjoyed with a coach trying to win games for us!
Besides he couldn’t suck any worse than Cal did last year.

BCG was even better than Cal’s last 2 seasons.

I don’t think so. He up there to be looked at but there are quite a few that would need to be approached first.
Would you agree that Holtzman from Ohio st isn’t one of them I’m worried that’s who they would call I’m not a big fan of his. Musselman to me is the best mix of recruiting/results/ being able to handle the fanbase

The Lakers are absolutely awful.

I have a hard time thinking Pelinka thinks "If we just had a guy that lets the players do what they want to do."

Holtman is an interesting person to think about. I think about the guys who came before like wright and how he wasn’t popular then won a couple of titles and what? 4 final fours? The thing about a guy like Holtman is we don’t really know if he would end up being a home run down the road. He’d never leave we know that.

I agree with you there’s nothing that tells me he should be considered, but I’m not listening to him and his vision for UK either.

To me the best hire is a guy that is going to play a modern offense and recruit at a high level. To be honest, that doesn’t fit Mussleman or Holtman.

Lloyd in Arizona would have to be higher than both of those. He fits the type of guy that could be primed for the future with his type of player and type of system. We’d love the types of guy he’s bringing in.

If Kentucky can get Lloyd then I would be for it, just don’t know if he would leave Arizona after one year, musselman to me is more likely to happen and I think the fanbase would really get behind him if cal ends up leaving

The good thing about Mussleman would be hes hungry. I mean really hungry. We could do a lot worse that’s for sure. I just don’t like some of his coaching decisions. Honestly over 10 years I could see him hanging a banner, but I still think there’s some other names that would be interested and we’d have to go in that direction first.

The portal hasn’t really heated up

there isn’t much reason for Lloyd to leave AZ, having recruited the west coast his whole career , and having a top tier gig at a ‘basketball school’. Holtman‘s style is ugly ..like Calipari last 4 minutes with a lead , but the whole game . Pope would get a look

I actually will take Torres stance which is UK fans want to CONTEND/COMPETE for championships every year. You all are loyal to the program and as long as they are doing what it takes and showing the program cares about Kentucky....you'll support them. If UK loses to a team in Elite 8, Final Four it stinks, but you are right there with the program. Now you can't excuse St. Peter's. Missing the Tournament. Ruining all the traditional events/games/outings that Kentucky loves.

I think there are numerous guys who would jump at this job. Hypothetically you open this up, you aren't replacing the Cal from '10-'15 who was fantastic, you are replacing the version who is ducking IU, won't play in Maui or Holiday Tournaments, won't do home/homes, talks of losses as not mattering, has bent the knee to Rick Barnes of all coaches, has not recruited at the level that he once did--but isn't getting guys to stay either. It would be time for someone to come take this job.

Personally, I'd look at a younger guy to grow-but my top young coach was Todd Golden who UF just hired. If I went current top guys, I'd make a run at Scott Drew, Eric Musselman, still not as down on Nate Oats as others, also like Tommy Lloyd but doubt he'd leave Arizona, and I'd have been fine if Kenny Payne got a chance here but he's at U of L so he'd out. For a guy who I'm intrigued by I'll throw a name some would be shocked by mentioning but I like Jerry Stackhouse. Stackhouse is someone I could see winning big at a better program. He's type I like in that he played at highest level and can relate to elite players in being recruited, pressure of blueblood program, trying to get to NBA, etc...but understand if some think that's crazy. Think he's really doing right things to get Vanderbilt competitive and recruiting very well with some guys who are underrated but will be good college players--like the guard Noah Shelby a lot.
I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I agree with the take on Stackhouse. Also take Scott Drew in a heartbeat.

I could see that we need to put ourselves in the mind of Barnhart thought he usually thinks the exact opposite of what fans aeas thinking most times, so knowing him he would hire Chris Mack or somebody like him

Mitch needs to create an Athletics Ambassador position; and stick Cal in it. Cal could then have a positive impact on all UK athletes and not be worried with something as silly as WINNING. We avoid a buyout. But get a new head coach which is desperately needed.

Sort of a semi-retirement. Cal may enjoy the low stress gig.

He won a World Championship with everyone healthy.

This year he has had to deal with a GM that signed Russell Westbrook, traded Rondo and had their best 2 players injured.

You are the crazy one.
hasn’t coached one college game lmao
