Allen is a KY kid, we all want him to play and succeed. But the guy can't play a lick of defense. It looks like he has cinder blocks taped to his legs. And when he dribbles the ball, I feel like it's gonna go off his foot. He looks uncomfortable dribbling the ball. He is a pure catch and shoot.

Dontaie isn't going to get much better until he actually has a chance to play and learn. Brooks got to do this, Toppin got to do it last year, Collins is getting to do it this year, TyTy is getting to do it, Grady is getting to play through his mistakes. I am not saying Allen needs 20mpg, but if we ever expect tonsee development, he is going to have to start getting some consistent minutes and being allowed to play through some mistakes. Particularly in games like this where we can afford the mistakes.

Allen really needs to transfer to a place where he can get consistent minutes and shots. He’s a streak shooter that needs to be playing with confidence. Unfortunately I don’t think that’s at UK. And I’m not blaming Cal.

DA would probably thrive at a mid-level D1 school.
Silly take. He doesn't need to transfer but he does need to work on his defense, passing and dribbling skills. Glad to have him at UK.

Lots of difference in playing time.

Unfortunately Allen is still a liability on the floor. Maybe with additional reps this year, he can be a factor next season. But he's still a ways off.. AND plays a position that's kind of stacked, where as Brooks, despite being 6-7, still plays big, and we really need him with Ware and Toppin out.

The good news is, I think the transfer option is kaput.. he's been here too long. And this was something I was very worried off in his first 2 seasons.

he had a huge opportunity to get big minutes tonight with Mintz out....and he failed miserably
I wouldn't say he failed miserably. He was in the game 13 min and had 2 boards, a steal and an assist. His shot didn't fall, but if he makes 1 or 2, we are all calling it a good game for Allen.

Grady is good, but I am not sure he is any better a shooter than Allen is. He is a more complete player, but he's also played a lot more.

If Allen ever gets a consistent chance, I suspect he would average very good scoring and shooting numbers.
he is definitely a better shooter, and he's proving it this year and will continue to.

He needs To transfer. He’s the type of players that at other schools would be able to play through his mistakes and improve. That’s not gonna happen here. Practice only takes you so fa, gotta get out there and play to get better.

Allen should consistently play about 8-10mpg. If he is hitting he should play 12-15...if not, 4-8.

The problem you have isn't just his defense. He lacks the speed necessary to push in transition. I do like the length he provides defensively.

I'm a huge fan of his and believe he will contribute here if he sticks it out...which I think he will.
I think he sticks around simply because of the NIL money.

Amazing we have a guy in Brooks who consistently produces, and he gets trashed no matter what, then we have Allen who is the streakiest player who is one dimensional who the same people Clamor for game after game.
Brooks can’t play dead in a Western. Cal has him shooting 3’s which he can’t do. He can’t dribble but even worse, thinks he can. He has no dog in him and is a horrid defender. He’s an average rebounder with a decent mid range game and that is all. Cal is trying to get him to the league, ain’t happening. Sooner Cal realizes that better off the team will be.

Yeah but even if he would have played 28 minutes he wouldn’t have had 17/8. He was 0-5, 2 boards and a steal in 13 minutes.I love Allen and he has a bright future if he works hard. At this point it’s not much contest who should be on the floor however.
Bright future? In what? Selling real estate? A teacher?

Clearly, Brooks has limitations, but he is our second-leading scorer and rebounder. Given the current injuries to Toppin and Ware, with Collins and Hopkins developing as Freshmen, who should be taking minutes from Brooks ??

Hopkins. He’ll have growing pains but is far more skilled and has some dog.
I agree that Hopkins looks like he's going to be a solid player for us, but he's a Freshman and is developing. I think the call for Brooks to be on the floor is because it's important to win the games, but I can see that Hopkins could be playing a little more. He played pretty well against Ohio, logging sixteen (16) minutes of action. Hopefully, with several OOC games left, Hopkins will receive increased playing time to develop and contribute. He will get acclimated to the college game as time moves along.

He’s shot the 3 pretty well this year. He hasn’t hit like he did in the preseason but he’s only taken 10 threes. I don’t want him shooting 8 a game but he has the ability to hit an open 3 now. He’s shooting 50% from the field. 14.8 points/5.4 Rebs a game. Those are solid numbers. He does need to improve his passing and interior defense. Overall he’s a good college player.

He is EXACTLY the kind of player that so many have clamored for, as he is not an OAD. I am thankful he has stayed with the program. He makes us a better team.

Where are the Cal needs to play Allen fans tonight?
So the kid missed a few shots, seems like I can remember a bunch of Cal's beloved OAD players who missed shot after shot and still played a bunch of minutes, why the hate man.

I love Allen. No hate at all. Just asking a question. Maybe Cal knows best after all.

How many threes did Brooks shoot last night?

Maybe he plays more because he is a more complete player. Seems to work that way.

Or he could be a more complete player because he actually has experience playing. I am not seeing what makes him more complete though. They seem to have similar skill sets and neither are good defenders. Dontaie has better length to affect the game.
