Allen gets more undeserved hate and more undeserved praise than any player in recent memory. Dude is just out there playing ball doing the best he can. Give it a rest and watch the game
all the undeserved hate is a product of all the people clamoring for him to get more minutes when he clearly doesn’t deserve an increased role. Missing shots aside, he provided basically nothing else when he was on the floor tonight.

He is a Hall of Fame coach which gives him the right to play whoever he wants. Works that way. He didn't get there by listening to griping fans.
Think what you want, Hall of fame not hall of fame, he plays favorites even if it cost him a game here or there, plus last year proved to me he is only an average at best bench coach.

False, his biggest crime is speaking his mind. Around here "those" athletes are just supposed to shut and play ("dance").

Honestly I am not even aware of whatever Brooks said to upset some of our fanbase. I do not pay attention to what the players say about anything non-game related as I simply do not care. I just watch the games as mindless entertainment, and then talk to you degenerates (me being one of the biggest ones) about college kids dribbling a basketball or kicking a football.

Dontaie isn't going to get much better until he actually has a chance to play and learn. Brooks got to do this, Toppin got to do it last year, Collins is getting to do it this year, TyTy is getting to do it, Grady is getting to play through his mistakes. I am not saying Allen needs 20mpg, but if we ever expect tonsee development, he is going to have to start getting some consistent minutes and being allowed to play through some mistakes. Particularly in games like this where we can afford the mistakes.
Seems like he had many games last year where he got quite a few minutes to play and develop, like you say, but his defense is still not good and ball handling is sketchy at best. He had a full off season to work on deficiencies this year but I don't see much improvement. I love Dante and wish he would step up but there are now guys ahead of him that are just doing an overall better job. We know he can shoot, except for last night, but he has to improve in many other areas to get more PT. That doesn't just suddenly appear with more minutes in games, he has to dedicate to improvement during practice time to show the coaches they can trust him.

So the kid missed a few shots, seems like I can remember a bunch of Cal's beloved OAD players who missed shot after shot and still played a bunch of minutes, why the hate man.
If you couldn't see last night that he just didn't look like he belonged on the court, you're looking with biased eyes. Aside from missing the shots, he was just playing all around poorly. I love the kid, wanted more PT for him last year when nobody else could hit a shot, and want to see him be a contributor for us. But I'm not seeing anything from him this year that shows he's ready to contribute. And that's fine. He has a couple more years at least of eligibility (technically has 3 left) and he can get there.

Did not get to watch last nights game, so he had a bad game, tell me when have you never seen a kid have a bad game, just asking. Anyone who has watched UK under Cal also knows that kids like Allen are on a short leash, and they know it, so one mistake and bam its the bench. Just look how he treated Willis back when he played.

Allen is a good player. Allen is a good shooter but average to weak, in other areas. When Mintz rejoins the team, Allen will be losing even more opportunities to play. If Sharpe actually suits up in January, Allen will become nonexistent. I dont think it is because Cal plays favorites as much as he plays the best player. Allen, right now, is far from the other top players on the team. I hope he proves me wrong.

I’ve slowly changed my opinion to this. I always have a little more for the kids from KY, but Allen seems to have shown his full game now. I don’t think there are any hidden gears at this point.

For saying he supported the “push” to change the name of Rupp Arena because of the preconceived notion that Coach Rupp was a racist and a bigot. That what you’re referencing? 🤔 You mean, speaking his mind about something he really didn’t know much about and even said as such. Talk about asinine.

Cal has his favorites and has shown it over the years. Allen just needs to play more in these early games to get more experience. And for those who say his defense is bad just watch Brooks Friday night.
Fair enough who should play less?

Allen is shooting 35% from the field, 27% from 3, is getting 1 rebound, has 0 FT attempts and can’t guard anyone. I like the guy but his numbers don’t say he needs more PT.

Everyone has strong opinions on Allen, no doubt. The Kentucky fanbase loves the hometown guy and for many he can do no wrong. They want to see him be given enough rope to hang himself so that he will improve. For others who see his limitations they usually overreact to the ones who love him regardless.

I have been trying to see both sides here. Positives: he has excellent size for wing guard. He can get on a roll and score 30 at times. Negatives: his defense and ball handling have both been suspect. His shooting is very streaky, not consistent. I do think his defense is improving.

So, if you're the head coach and you must win or else this season, what do you do with a guy like Allen? It's not an easy decision. If he's gone 0-5 in 13 minutes, how much longer would you give him? What if another player at the same position comes in and hits 3 threes? I think Cal did exactly what he should have done with Allen last night. He gave him a good chance. He missed all his shots. Grady came in and went 3-5 from 3.

I wish Allen was as skilled as Juzang was here as a freshmen. It will come with time
I would say you are right, but he gots lots of pine time too, they can't get in a rhythm unless they play significant minutes...thats my comparison to Johnny

This is just stupid. All coaches have favorites. All coaches give the better players a longer leash than others. It’s been that way since the beginning of time.

It appears to me that lost on this board haven’t played past rec league ball where everyone had to play a certain amount of time and everyone got a participation trophy. This is big Division 1 basketball. Playing time is earned in practice. I’m not a Calipari homer, but one thing that he says that always resonates with me. If you’re not shooting the ball, how else are you helping us. That’s what Allen needs to take to heart. He wants more PT then he needs to get in there and get deflections, dive on the floor, do the little things that will cause him to stand out from everyone else. Cause obviously camping out at the 3 point line and waiting for a shot ain’t getting him anywhere.

My memory may be off, but I remember Juzang being almost unplayable most of the season at UK. Near the end he was getting more comfortable and more confident with his ball handling to the point I think he drove a few times. He averaged the same number of minutes as Kahlil Whitney (Juzang had more total minutes, but he played in more games), and most thought he got way more minutes than he deserved.

He needs To transfer. He’s the type of players that at other schools would be able to play through his mistakes and improve. That’s not gonna happen here. Practice only takes you so fa, gotta get out there and play to get better.
Takes like this are just awful. There is literally no better place to get better than Kentucky. Elite staff, elite training, elite everything... competition is by far the best way to improve.

No. I am a KY fan. You are a cal fanboy. 9 and 16 was ok because Cal.
It was not okay but there were certain circumstances that caused that to be an aberration. Evidently it affected other blue blood teams like Duke and UNC. Of course that means nothing to you. You think UK should win 30 games every year and a title regardless of the circumstances. Get a life.

Kentucky is a great program. But you don’t need to be at a great program to succeed. And none of that matters if you don’t play anyway.

Loser’s mentality IMO. Symptom of “I want it now” society. Big deal if you’re not the man. You work at it. And you’re not guaranteed it. That’s how you build character.

Blowing out teams this month, good time to get Allen going. He will help us win some games and Cal knows it. With CJ out that leaves TW, KG, DA and DM as our deep shooters. Got to figure a couple of these guys will be off some nights so you can see where he will be needed and there will be some nights he will be on. And he is doing some things defensively to help the team.

Those guys didn’t transfer for more PT. They could’ve had that at each of their schools. And if Dontaie wants to be the big fish in a small pond, that’s his prerogative. Saying every recruit who doesn’t start should transfer though... microwave society. And dumb.
