… Way down where the sun shines hotter
Dog's on the porch
Gator's in the water
Way down, down in Alabama
Muddy Mississippi
Swampy Louisiana
We come up a little different 'round here

… We got a little dirt road dust runnin' through our blood
From a "Never heard of it" hometown
I got a can't quit heart and some take it too far
And a whole lot of never back down
If you come around here, better bring it 'cause we're no doubt
Gonna put a little south on ya

* There are two pretty lucrative jobs I am 100% confident in my ability to be able to do at a very high level....

- cheesy network sitcom writer
- country music songwriter

It's absolutely stunning how unoriginal, unfunny, unauthentic, and completely formulaic this garbage is.

* For my friend 1973:

(San Francisco's mayor imposing incredibly strict COVID guidelines and ignoring them for her own benefit)

Some thoughts.....

- is the term "gaslighting" allowed to be used when describing an african american woman? probably not, but i'm going with it.
- f her.
- when cnn is calling out the hypocrisy and the ridiculousness of this -- i feel like we're on our way. fight back!
- f her.

* I think White Wayne is just mad that Ali said what he was already thinking about Liston, and used up all the best lines.

* Counting Crows show last night. Lots of 40-something white people, and it was great. I wouldn't consider myself a fan at all, but it was a great trip down memory lane. They had some real bangers, are pretty widely loved, but just kinda disappeared after their first two big albums. Weird.

Dude boned ERRYBODY, too.

* Speaking of country music, this song absolutely cracks me up every single time. What an incredible collection of ridiculousness.

* JJ Redick announces his retirement. Probably the 2nd best shooter of my lifetime, next to Steve Novak.

* All of a sudden Kris Bryant went on a heater and is up to .284. This one's gonna be close.

* I do an awful lot of networking. Like BNI/Chamber of Commerce type stuff. And it never ceases to amaze me how many people are in some form of "coaching."

- business coaching
- life coaching
- personal coaching
- style/image coaching

Yes, please, Mr/Mrs 27 year-old. Please impart your life's wisdom on me for a fee. I am so honored.

NOT!

(I'm totally brining "NOT!" back, by the way)

The best professionals I've come across in any field are the ones that are smart, talented, and well adjusted enough that doing the difficult job seems easy. Steer clear of ego maniacs in all walks. They're trying to prove something that isn't true.

PIckleball is fun.

My Wildcat football cautious optimism needle has swung back towards caution. Sure could use about 6 more players. Specifically the DBs.

The OL's putrid performance against UTC has to be pure anomaly, though.

15 hour work day yesterday. Half-assin' it today. Might go look for some bourbon and see if I can kick start the seasonal obsession.

The best doctor I’ve ever seen/worked with wasn’t a raging ahole. Quite the contrary, was extremely nice and personable.

In my experience, the best ones are calm, cool, and collected during a crisis. The hotheads are the ones out of control.
Yup. When things are headed sharply south in an ER or ICU I love having the dude walk in with his LSU Tigers skull cap, act like nothing was going on and he was just trying to get back to his beloved Tigers football game with as little fanfare as possible.

True story that happened more than a couple times. Don’t remember his name but god bless that man, or just bless himself because he may have been god.

Maybe you know him boat? This was 10+ years ago though. Guy was a CRNA and just a cool, calm, collected dude. Just walk in the room and toss a trach in on someone that was 100% on their way out like it was throwing darts at Lynagh’s.

PTI, a white man, calling out a Black mayor who simply could not control herself and had to dance mask-less because Tony! Toni! Toné! ("one of the greatest bands ever") was playing is PEAK white privilege.

And then he has the nerve to call me a racist? Mods... c'mon. Are we going to allow this to go on?

She thought she was being funny and believed others would just LOL! along with her because she had no reasonable explanation of her actions and probably realized that if she actually stayed on topic to respond to the questions- she would just continue to sound like the absolute hypocritical loser than she is.
Another blatant example of how these elected leaders aren't serious people and no one with an IQ over 70 should respect a word they say, yet the Bay area will reelect her at a 70%+ clip.

As the astute H.L. Mencken put it, "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."

Yeah, when I think NFL I think generic and bland. That’s why it’s the most popular league by far no doubt.

NFL is King. No doubt. I’m not arguing that. It appeals to the masses.

I suppose since I’m a college football honk the entire production on tv seems super generic and personality-less, compared to college football. The networks mute the crowd, all of the newer stadiums look alike, the teams seem to all run the exact same offenses and the stands are filled with 50 somethings in jerseys.

Everything I love about college football doesn’t exist in the NFL…

Every conference has its own identity, every stadium is unique it’s own right, there’s cool traditions and pageantry revolving around many programs and teams runs such a variety of offenses or defensive schemes.

- That game sucked. Let’s move on. Hopefully

- Feast of San Gennaro back in full swing this year. With Italian being my favorite cuisine and my love of Italian culture in general, absolutely determined to make it to that one day.

- Interesting side note, it takes place on Mulberry street, where John Gotti’s once-infamous Ravenite Social Club was located. Something about “the life” has always fascinated me, in that “How do these people actually think the law won’t catch up with them one day?” way.

- Sitting in the chair the other day, something came over me about just how much I really appreciate having access to a classic barber shop. Old men sitting around waxing about sports, current events, etc. Faded pictures and sports posters that have been on the walls for decades. Cream and straight razor shave on the back of the neck. The works. Not many of them left anymore, sadly.

- Went to the Eric Church concert Friday night (yeah, yeah…fire away), first full-scale event in Rupp since the shutdowns. Just to be with 15,000 of my closest friends for the first time in almost two years was worth every penny.

- I’m not digging the new setup at Rupp Arena at ALL. I know there’s a lot left to be done, but it feels claustrophobic. Will never get used to no longer being able to just stroll over from the Hyatt while still inside.

- After another bad experience (it was the only thing I could find open, and I was famished), I am finally at the point where I can admit that Sir Pizza is trash. I’ve known it in the back of my mind for a long time, but it’s just terrible cardboard. Not even nostalgia can save it for me at this point.

- These fast food “celebrity meals” are hilarious. Nelly’s is literally just a Whopper meal. And who in the world is Chase Hudson?

- Worst NFL team beats the best college team. Every. Single. Time.

- “Who are you people?” [switchblade flips] “Show ‘em.”

Still one of the most iconic action movie lines/moments ever. #Ahnuld

- As a Bear fan, way out in front on the Aaron Rodgers dislike. Glad everyone else is starting to see that weirdo’s true colors.

- It’s so odd to me that the MNF broadcasting crew is just a carousel these days. Growing up, that was an iconic broadcasting role that people stayed in a long time. Now it’s just “Who are these people?” They need to just put the Mannings in the main booth and make it permanent.

- Agreed kooky, those Lions all whites were dope.

- Rack Richie on why college football is so much better than the NFL as an overall product.

- Ryder Cup week. 🇺🇸

-As a surgical murse I can tell you an ego maniac is NOT who you want cutting on you.

-What’s the difference between God and a surgeon? God doesn’t think he’s a surgeon.

-My brain can wander aimlessly with little to no provocation to the most random of topics. Today’s brain teaser that popped up around flight 130 on the stair climber …….How did Rob Bromley ever get a job, much less keep one, as an on air sports personality? Add that to D.B. Cooper and the Zodiac Killer as the greatest mysteries of the last 50 or so years.

-Had NIL existed in his time, Jared Lorenzen would’ve made more than the entire UK coaching staff.

-Covid sucks

-Go CATS

-I’ll show myself out.

The most preposterous Covid restriction to me is still the...."The opening coin toss has been performed by the referees prior to kick-off due to Covid restrictions"

I mean, these kids are going out there and playing football with no masks, slobbering, sweating, spitting and tackling each other for a couple hours, and yet the GD coin toss can't happen? That's just absolutely f*cking stupid.

+1 on barbershop experience, post college it was a Saturday morning experience, 2 greek barbers shouting back and forth, at us, making fun of our friends who were not there to defend themselves, talking about what we did Friday night, what we were going to do Saturday. Then, head across the street to the diner and repeat conversations we just had in the barber shop. Good times/simple life.

I'm glad you enjoy it, but I don't get the barbershop experience at all. Even before COVID, the majority of the barbershops I went to had appointments. So it's not like you'd ever be just sitting there anyway talking to the regulars. Plus, with the clippers barbershops are already kind of loud so it's not conducive to conversation.

And what's with this hipster beer serving barbershop stuff? The new one in our neighborhood sells beer, but it closes at 4PM. Nothing like drinking an IPA while getting your haircut at 9:30 in the morning on a Tuesday.

I just want to get in, get my haircut, say as little as possible, and get out.
