A lot of UK fans are known to be miserable. It is like their default setting. The current make up of the team is very good with an All SEC pg, multiple proven shooters, a solid workman like interior and a lot of vets.

Penny probably will not win the title. point is...we won't win the title.
You can say that 353 each of 353 teams will not win the title and you would only be wrong one time. You guys saying Memphis will not win the title are full of ****. Michigan State will not win the title, Oregon State will not win the title, North Carolina State will not win the title. See how easy that is to make a prediction and be right. You people must be scared of Hardeway and Memphis or you would not be crying and keep saying how bad Hardeway is over and over. Why don't you just worry about the Cats because they won't win the title either. Now I will be right about those teams that I said will not win the title, but I won't keep repeating it over and over. A lot of you guys on here sound like little kids not getting your way.

Kentucky definitely offered him. I remember him putting it on Social media. It was early on in the process and tbh i think it became clear he wasn’t going to come here

Yeah, we offered, but he just never showed any interest in us. Then he committed to Michigan State, so it became a non issue until he decommitted a few months ago. After that, I think it was always gonna be either Memphis, Michigan State or the G-League route, I don't think anyone else was ever in serious contention.

Would you rather have experienced really good players or 2 17 year old reclassified 5 stars. Memphis doesn't seem to have great guards in my opinion. Hard to win titles without great experienced guard play. See Baylor last year and Virginia before that.

When he committed to MSU I remember the talk being no one was even bothering to try very hard except izzo because no one expected him to play college ball. They would have all been right if NIL didn't happen

The problem with this question is that it treats the options as mutually exclusive options, and they're not.

I'd prefer to have Bates and Duren, and then land a bunch of guys like Grady, too, because they're easy to sign in the Spring.

I get the early appeal of Penny.. but how has it not waned? He's underdelivered in team success and I've yet to see him do anything special to get these kids to the next level.
When he coached high school they played a couple times in the City of palms classic here in Fort Myers. It’s the premiere high school tournament in America played over Xmas. He had the most talented team both years ( by far) . And they were the most poorly coached team in the tournament

I miss the days when Cal could pull things like this off.
Cal is not NIL. That is on UK and boosters. Do you really think penny and sheed are making this deals?
i know it’s a lot more fun to bash Cal than use some common sense.

Not necessarily. But Sharpe isn’t some insane talent. I still think if he has higher offers, he won’t come.

The NIL is a big deal so people shouldn’t anticipate business as usual. There’s a reason the grievance voices on the board were so giddy the day this was signed off on. A few of them even lobbied to buy player’s t shirts lol.

It’s a complete lack of understanding as to what the NIL is and means. This isn’t about letting a kid sign a ball and make a small profit. This has opened the door to big business and businessmen buying players. It’s not worded that way, but that’s what it is.

You mean the same thing they've done with coaches for years? The NIL is going to severely weaken KY and many in this state will need to define themselves by something other than a sport played by young men.

This is a make it or break it year for Penny. If he wins, look for him to jump to coach in the NBA. If he doesn't, he will probably step down to prevent his legacy from getting too tarnished...

People complaining will eat crow. Cal knows this years roster is final four good. He won’t miss out with these two.

Seriously, you guys can’t be this dense.

Memphis has some pretty good experience this year. Guard-wise, they have Lomax back as a senior as well as junior Quinones. They've added Miami transfer Timberlake (sophomore) and former Memphis player Tyler Harris, who went to Iowa State for a year, and is now a senior. Frontcourt/wing players Nolley (Jr) and DeAndre Williams (Sr?) are also back, plus they got Chandler Lawson, a junior transfer from Oregon.

If Bates is going to run point and can do it effectively (hard to say after watching T. Clarke for us last year), then their lineup is Bates, Quinones, Nolley, Williams, and Duren. That's really good.

Also they would have Lomax, Harris, Timberlake, Lawson, and Dandridge as reserves. (I didn't count their other recruits ~ Minott, Lawson, Ayomide, and Camden ~ since I am not familiar with them, but they were 4-stars for the most part and should play)

My guess is they roll through their schedule and end up as a 2-seed in the tourney and lose in the 2nd round or Sweet 16 now, which is better than the 8 or 9 seed that they likely were before Bates committed, or the NIT team they were before Duren committed. They do play both Alabama and Tennessee in December so those should be fun games to watch.

Penny is a ‘roll the ball out and let them play’ type coach. Calipari and Izzo are more ‘hard ***’ type coaches that will not let a player just run wild within their system.

Seems like Penny told Bates he can play PG. ok. His dad formed his own prep school last year so Bates could do whatever he wants and now his camp wanted a coach who’d let him do whatever he want.

The takes on this stuff are always interesting. When Cal was getting his pick of the litter, people referred to him as the "just rolls the balls out there" coach.

It's embarrassing is what I say. We've got some horses but they keep getting Lamborgini and next thing you know we are just on the sidelines drinking fruit punch. I don't have any problems with Memphis but I do have a problem with how we are getting smoked on the recruiting trail. Not a good sign you always need talent. So we better be picking it up soon or we'll be picking up some CBI dates if we're not careful

As far as I'm concerned Mitch is the NIL guy. Yes I know the program can't be directly involved but I haven't seen anything about indirect involvement. We need to offer incentives to companies with club seats, tickets and discounts in promotions. They in turn can pay it forward if you will. The lack of creativity I am seeing would be surprising, if it wasn't so obvious he and the athletic department are living in 1995

Been known for over 2 weeks.

Big NIL deals to both.

Not gonna spend a lot of time repeating myself but unless UK is gonna come with some big offers through the grapevine then we will never touch one of those again.

Pre NIL era
Post NIL era.

Better get used to it.
But but these kids need to get their money

they hired a guy for this...some television sports producer that is supposed to be a great guy...
I don't want great guys at that spot, I want mover and shakers that can sell Ice to Eskimos to get these companies to pay up...
BBN as strong as we are cannot help without someone organizing us.
Hence, a lot of recruiting it is outa Cal's and staff's hands

if we are behind in the NIL game...then, every and any recruit is a huge positive statement of Cal

Coaches are professionals. High school seniors going to orientation on a college campus are not.

You just admitted you think this hurts UK and UK fans but that’s a good thing? You’re so ate up in the political weapon of identity politics you just can’t keep your head straight can ya man?

You’re paranoid. You need to see someone
