Altman has been sneaky successful at Oregon. In 4 of the last 5 years (not counting last year) they have had a Final Four, Elite Eight, Sweet 16 and Sweet 16 so far this year. What I thought was a ho hum hire when I was at Oregon has turned into a really good hire for the Ducks.

I have to imagine with the shortened season, and how many upsets we've already seen.. the seeding in this tournament is way out of whack. Not in the sense that the pollsters/SC so much got things wrong, just that some teams didn't get to showcase as much.

There HAS to be come correlation between the COVID season and how crazy this tournament has been.

Yep. I also have to think the better seeds not having geographical preference might have also played a small role in this too. Not in blowouts like this obviously but maybe the difference between some teams being upset and escaping with a close win.

Kenpom showed Loyola Chicago ranked #8 prior to the NCAAT. Slightly under seeded I'd say.

I'll be honest. Oregon getting a free pass in the first round really doesn't sit well with me watching them lay the pipe to Iowa. I mean there's got to be a decent advantage having fresh legs for this game.

I was thinking the same thing.

Then again the flipside to that is if Iowa hammered them today people would say well Oregon didn't play in 10 days and they are rusty lol

I see people saying that this years champ will have an asterisk next to their name. I do Oregon will for whatever they accomplish this tournament.

Only the forth time they have advanced to the sweet 16.****Didn't have to play a first round game.

That's true. But that's true for most mid major teams not named Gonzaga.

For the most part when teams have sufficient resumes (ie power conference teams) they seed them pretty well.

Even Kenpom I'm pretty sure pre tournament the first four teams in his ranking were the 1 seeds. I think he pegged the 2 seeds as well. Loyola Chicago was actually 9th pretournament.

And despite all these upsets I'm not sure they didn't have the teams correctly. I mean Iowa was very good this season. Illinois was a title contender.

It's just been one bizzare year.

It all really comes down to matchups too. Oregon was a bad matchup for Iowa. Iowa was great in the Big 10 because they all play the same plow horse type of style. Oregon gets up and down the floor and shoots well from the perimeter. Same can be said for Loyola/IL. Just bad matchups for those teams regardless of seed.

Not sure I totally understand what you’re saying, but Altman is already on his 5th Sweet 16 at Oregon himself.

Back in 89 I went to a few Marshall games. Got to meet Altman. He was down to earth nice guy back then. No idea if he is still the same now.
I believe that was his first coaching job. I know he only stayed one year and they didn't have a great season. Some AD must have saw something in him they liked.

What’s spread on Zags vs OU?

Guessing Zags by 10 as the outcome

Oklahoma going to get run out of the gym playing run and gun with Zags.
Only chance they have is shorting the game.
So far so good but I don't see them winning playing fast.

Reeves from Oklahoma taking it at the Zags. Ky needs players like this. 6’5 can shoot the 3 and drive and finish at the rim.

If Gonzaga were to get knocked off, It would open the door wide open for Kansas.....That is the only reason I want them to continue to survive until Bama or Baylor gets them.

Yep I want both Kansas and Michigan out so I'll be rooting for the Zags as long as those two are still alive.

Oklahoma hitting on all cylinders out of the gates...Gonzaga a well coached team, they play defense and run their offensive sets a less disciplined team would be down 10 right now they maintained contact until OKs spurt ended and are right there with them.

This is true lol.

Tho I suppose even if I was working today I'd still be streaming this haha.

I normally take off the Thursday/Friday of the tournament but since no Thursday games I went with Fri/Mon
I usually do the same (thu/fri). Since the Cats aren't playing, I decided to save my personal days for a couple of golf outings.

Oregon looks totally superior to Iowa & could beat absolutely anyone today. It goes back to what I've been saying: this is such a weak, weak year in college basketball. Gonzaga would barely crack top 15, 15-20 years ago.
Gonzaga would definitely be a top 10 team. The rest of the country being sorry the has nothing to do with them lol.

After watching UK flounder all season, I’m astounded by the ease at which some teams put the ball through the hoop.

Watch how Gonzaga stesses the other guys offense constantly with three quarter court pressure and traps in the half court pushing you out of what you want to set up. Then mix in some man to man and then back to the semi pressure again. It creates mental and physical fatigue for the offense and is exactly what Ive dreamed of us doing the last 10 years with our athletes and length.

I can still dream . . .

They are absurdly well coached.

I was watching Loyola's big man yesterday, and I was amazed that he didn't go flying after a block he had no chance at getting and give up an easy put back every time someone drove to the basket. It's been fun watching well coached basketball teams for a change.

I talked to him a few times at Oregon. Really nice guy on those conversations I had with him.

But Covid set us back
And our kids aren't robots
And we are young
And it takes 1/2 the season to teach them how to get dressed and do our layup lines.
