I can remember how nervous I was before we played that Umass team in the tournament. Cal is pissed and I think he’s going to make changes. Usually I wouldn’t think that, but going 9-16 and everyone talking **** is going to have him motivated, IMO.
Yeah. I was a nervous wreck too. It was one of those feelings like, you knew Kentucky was a better team but was UMass just that one bad matchup for us that year? It’s all about matchups.

In that second game with them, we were CLEARLY the better team. They were on the verge two or three times of UK blowing them out.

Another thing I didn't realize about our shooting

3 pt FG% 33.6% (nat 33.8%) 178th
2 pt FG% 45.5% (nat 49.8%) 313th

We actually turned into an average 3 pt shooting team. It was the 2pt shots that was horrendous.

People are ridiculous acting like the reason we sucked is cause Cal wasn’t motivated or pissed off enough to put out a good product. What, now that he’s acting “swaggy” the problems will be fixed? On the list of reasons things have been declining, that’s no where near the top.

I just hope his
you dont need any of those guys if you get a carr, and powell in the transfer portal
You think the players we have are good enough to win a championship just adding Powell and someone else? There was nothing about any of our players that screamed they'd be something you wouldn't want to mess with. I've seen the types of players it takes to get to that Level and these guys aren't even close to what we've had before. There's no toughness. There's no killer instinct. Not being negative, just realistic.

So does his threat mean another team that will struggle early and maybe often and maybe make a small run to a sweet 16, with the ceiling being an E8? If I was an opposing fan, that would not make me "sorry" that I was glad they were down this year. What would make me "sorry" would be a team that was capable of coming into our home and running us out of the gym. Put together something that is going to embarass other teams. That will make people "sorry". Not a team that can't win a top 25 game and is barely beating SEC teams.

'Cal Speak' and I'm not buying the Swaggy Cal mantra anymore. Cal just needs to get out there and make it happen. Don't run your mouth, coach the team. You have no right to boast after this historically bad season. Same guy who watched NBA games all throughout the bubble picking up new ideas for a modern offense in college basketball.

Oh lord you are not honestly thinking those guards are anything close to Powell? Sallis and Hardy are eons better with the ball than Powell ever has been.

Yeah, definitely showed they were the better team in the second game. Cal with a veteran team is dangerous. I know Cal gets blasted for his coaching abilities but I think people don’t understand how hard it is to coach a really young team. Why Cal went that route while he’s been here, I’ll never understand but I will give him credit for being able to take young teams and make them better while he has been our coach. I just don’t understand it, because it’s way tougher to build rosters that way and win games. Doesn’t matter if a kid out of high school is a five star or one star, adjusting to the college game is a big step.

I'd say given Cal's track record it's a good bet it will be proven :)

Also said he would never be held hostage again which he has allowed himself to be numerous times including this year with Boston and askew. A pissed off cal still has to coach so unless he unpacks that cal a pissed off cal is just getting his *** kicked more next year with some new players mixed in. Will see if he changes at all but I’m willing to bet we still have a pro day to kick things off next year.

I’ll also say that had Epps been the PG from the jump in 96, UMass didn’t beat us. Still would’ve been competitive, though.

1. Cal isn't going anywhere this year
2. Pissed off Cal is at least motivated to win
3. Cal has no second chances next year, so he might as well paint himself into a corner and come out swinging.
4. He still needs a mea culpa with the fans, admit this has to change and promise to get out ahead of other programs instead of living a decade behind them.
5. This will get much, much uglier if he thinks this year is an anomaly and he can just go back to rinse , lather and repeat.

Don’t do that man, people said the same thing about BJ and Clarke last off season over our old guards. a Lot of folks thought Quickley would’ve been our only returnee who could’ve been better. Season before Whitney was the reincarnation of MKG.

Sallis and Hardy could be great (not sold on Sallis, Hardy does look good tbf) but I’d rather have guys who have proven they can get it done at this level over recent “cant miss recruits.”

Hey Cal what about the people who didn’t enjoy Kentucky struggling this season but watched you laying the groundwork for it the previous five years and finally decided to call you out on it?

And about next season sure I’ll be holding my breath. I didn’t grudgingly defend your right to try and make the needed changes yourself just to watch you turn bitter and blowhard without making a single change. You want next season to vindicate you? Do something about your offense, your defense, your assistants, your recruiting, your preconference scheduling, and maybe think about drawing up a damned sidelines play.

We'll be watching closely this off season. If he's serious about turning the ship around he will change up his staff and recruit some guys that truly know how to play the game. If that means taking a couple of top level transfers then, so be it. But, I'm not talking about guys like Sarr either. I'm talking about scorers. Guys who can get their own shot if need be.
But, Calipari MUST change his offense as well. It's pathetic. Far too much standing around watching. Nobody WORKING to get open.
His teams moving forward need to be Bosses. Meaning, they WANT IT and will fight to win.
We hear a lot of talk but, show us the proof.

Like I always say, if it weren’t for our GOAT 1996 squad, UMass cuts the nets down that year. That was a hell of a basketball team. They had an AA center, two do it all forwards and two guards that could flat shoot, especially Travieso.

That’s saying something. College ball back then was about at peak level in talent. They beat AI and Gtown like a drum in the tourney that year. The 1996 Cats were just too damn good and would not be denied.

I don't know that I have ever been more nervous for a UK game than that night. They dismantled us earlier that year and were a freight train rolling into NJ just like we were. That game did not disappoint. Two very evenly matched teams.
