Getting your *** kicked can put things into perspective. He’s not used to losing games like that. Complacency can happen to anyone no matter what your profession is. No matter how young or old you are you can learn life lessons too. I’m putting Covid season in the past...hoping this drives Cal to be his old self and we look like a different team next season.

Don’t mean crap until it’s proven
Well the last time UK/Cal missed the tournament UK went to back to back FF.

I wouldn't doubt the man.

Also, those comments probably mean he knows he is getting Powell and a few surprise players are coming back.

Great words but if he can't turn the recruiting ship on Hunter Sallis, Trevor Keels, Jaylen Hardy....how can he back it up in 2022?

Are we going to do what it takes to get kids to UK?

Yeah step 1 is getting some guys back.

Step 2 is recruiting to the extent he once did.

2010 - I am here because I can recruit the BEST OF THE BEST.

We are getting good players but not the best of the best.

Guys like Cal always have the last laugh. You see it in all walks of life. At some point guys like Cal are “down”......until they ain’t.

There is a contingent of our fan base that have actually loved this season. I call them the doomers. They are just miserable people and are never happy. They are the folks that called into the tubby smith show to complain when we were like 22-2 or something. I hope Cal seriously gets his *** in gear because this year was not acceptable. But I have enough sense to know that Cal is still the perfect coach for UK. I posted a couple months ago that we will get the train rolling again with Cal and got destroyed by the doomers. That’s cool. It’s a message board.

The miserable minority know who they are. I want them to eat it. It’s refreshing that Cal wants the same thing. I want him motivated again.

I think things will definitely be better next season. Probably much better. If things fall into place just right, hell, we might even be in contention for the title. To do that, we need to bring most of our team back, add some quality transfers and hopefully grab another good recruit or two. Then everyone needs to get busy and work their *** off over the Summer to get better.

Eh, maybe if you’re going by 2009-2015. The last 6 seasons? Not so much. No bueno.

Why limit it to that tho? The man has coached for decades. He's had success with varying levels of talent and universities with various levels of resources.

I think he can figure this out.

At the end of the day, we are going to find out one way or another lol

Look he wasn't mad enough at 9-16 to start coaching this season, but next season let me tell ya he's changing everything!

Narrator: He changed nothing.

If we have good talent we will win more games. I dont see Cal flipping his offensive and defensive tendencies over night. JMO
Fair assessment.

Yeah when it was Cal against the world and he needed to prove himself he inspired his players to fight. Now he makes 10M a year and wants to get everyone to the NBA first and foremost.
I hope the 9-16 season brings the old Cal back.

A lot of people forget how tough his UMass and Memphis teams were.
Like I always say, if it weren’t for our GOAT 1996 squad, UMass cuts the nets down that year. That was a hell of a basketball team. They had an AA center, two do it all forwards and two guards that could flat shoot, especially Travieso.

That’s saying something. College ball back then was about at peak level in talent. They beat AI and Gtown like a drum in the tourney that year. The 1996 Cats were just too damn good and would not be denied.

To me, it's more about a talent level than it is having to drastically change philosophies.

I mean our adjusted offensive efficiency last season was 79th.

I don't know what kind of offense you run when you have very little amount of good players on that side of the ball.

We lacked the ability to drive the ball to the hoop and we lacked the ability to make outside shots. So we settled for mid range shots that were low % shot.

I'm not sure the greatest coach in basketball could have turned this team around on offense.

I can remember how nervous I was before we played that Umass team in the tournament. Cal is pissed and I think he’s going to make changes. Usually I wouldn’t think that, but going 9-16 and everyone talking **** is going to have him motivated, IMO.

Somebody should ask him why the team didn't play any better at the end of the year than they did at the beginning. A decent coach would have gotten some improvement out of them.

Some things got better.
In the beginning of the season our offense was complete trash. We couldn't shoot and we turned the ball over at a crazy rate.

Well the season went on and we still couldn't shoot the ball but in conference play we did take better care of the ball and we actually had some decent games on offense later on in the season.

I also wonder if had Clarke not gotten injured we would have been better later on in the season.

I also think it's a timeframe thing. Sometimes (most of the time) our guys figure it out in Feb/March. Maybe this group just needs another year.
