1. Never found guilty of rape or sexual so you should think before you speak.

2. Yes he made an error in judgement and committed adultery...terrible, agreed and something I wouldn't do and don't codone. But his wife also forgave him and by all accounts he redeemed himself.

A man should never be permanently judged by their worst moment...

You're being ignorant. If you want to actually discuss this think before you speak or there is no use.

Ok, so I don't agree with you so I am being ignorant?

Thanks for providing an example as to the entire problem with this world in one sentence.

Im posting reasons for your "ignorance". The only fact you have is he wasn't convicted. We all know why he wasn't convicted. Money.

You don't think people come out of the woodwork talking about his sexual assault case and infidelity against his wife if they plaster his silhouette on everything from T-shirts to whatever? It most definitely gets associated with that bad stuff.

They already have.

I apologize to Kobe. I don't want to be having this talked about. Having to speak ill of the dead sucks. Especially, my 3rd favorite non-UK player. It's sad people aren't thinking about what this logo stuff would do to your family. Such a weird time we live in.

Well, in fairness, that's because he got rid of the case by means of rich man's justice, not by adjudication on the facts and evidence. He paid her off with a huge civil settlement, and she conveniently decided not to testify at a criminal trial.

But there was plenty of evidence suggesting he would've been convicted if it had gone to trial. The medical evidence in that case was quite ugly, and did indicate that the R word happened ...even though we're not supposed to talk about that today.

It wouldn’t bother me if they don’t change it.

It wouldn’t bother me if they did change it to Kobe
Don't be so controversial dude.....:D.....jk

No questioning the talent or impact of Kobe when he played and since he retired. His passing in the manner he did, along with his daughter and 7 others is tragic and unimaginable for those affected. The real tragedy in all of this is the loss of chldren, parents, and families.

I wasn't really a Kobe fan per say, but I respected his ability and his drive. I am sorry for his wife and their children, and for all the families.

I gotta be honest. I can count on one hand the number of minutes I have spent watching the NBA the past decade. I do not like the game it has turned into. I could careless what the logo is or who's number is retired. But it is still a emotional reaction to believe it should happen

There was a lot of evidence for either scenario. I would urge you to re-read everything. I have a hard time finding someone guilty unless there is undeniable evidence to convict.

Does it have to be a player as the new logo? Is the NBA where it is today without David Stern? You could probably argue he made more of a contribution to the game than Kobe did. I mean he pretty much rescued the NBA and turned it in to what it is today.

Yeah he wasn’t one of my favorites while playing but I always respected his game . I’ve argued against him in Lebron debates and I’ve argued for him in Shaq debates .

I get why the current guys in the league feel this way it seems like he talked to a lot of guys behind the scene . They know more about him than Jerry West .

No reason to do that. Jerry West is and always should be the logo. Should he have been when the logo was made?, probably not. Russell or Chamberlain would have been better choices probably. But he’s been the logo for decades. That logo is iconic. Why people feel the need to deify someone after their passing is strange to me. Kobe was a great player with quite a few faults. I wouldn’t have a problem with retiring his number across the league.

I wouldn’t be opposed to the NBA changing the logo. It would be kinda cool to see it changed every 25 years to honor a former player for their contributions on and off the court. It would definitely make for interesting debates.

True. Guys today know little about Jerry West. Kobe influenced most all of the current players in some way or other.

Jordan has had nearly 2 decades of retirement, his children are adults. It would be awful but this is different. If MJ died in 2005 then 23 would be retired Leage wide.

Retiring numbers over deaths league wide is so NBA. It’s not going to do anything. Time goes on, in 30 years most kids won’t know who he is.

This is all knee jerk reactions because we’re in a social media age that creates it by spreading 300 million ideas that all sound good in utopia land but not when you sit back and give it time.

The entire Marshal football team died horribly in a plane crash. We didn’t rename the NCAA.

I realize people who don’t go bleeding heart in an instant will be seen as villains here, but it still doesn’t make sense.

Also no, in 2005 no one would have even suggested retiring a number world wide over a death.

The Lakers are free to change / do whatever they please , dont ask the rest of the league to go along .. Celtics retiring a Lakers number .. No freaking thanks

This is because the NBA has turned into an elitist club of mainly black American males who view everything through victimization and they don’t see themselves as competitors. They see themselves as a brotherhood fighting for each other.

The nba, unlike all other sports, has created an environment where there are two teams. The owners vs. the players.

So they don’t see it as other teams retiring a player from another organizations number. They see it as a brother from their team.

And it’s why I couldn’t imagine being a die hard NBA fan. They hate fans, owners, teams, and they only care about each other. No one stands up to them and it’s just a cycle that’s going nowhere.

it's not a knee jerk reaction, as has been explained numerous times in this thread. this is an exceptional moment and deserves an exceptional reaction, even if it's just a discussion about what to do

Morg, no one is talking about re-naming the NBA...they are talking about honoring one of the greatest all time players in some way, shape, form or fashion. It isn't as insane as some are making it out to be.

Jerry West doesn't even want to be on the logo. He wanted Jordan to be on it. If you ask Jordan, he'd probably want Kobe.

You can call it "knee jerk" if you want to...your prerogative. I'm neither for or against it, but I'd support it because Kobe meant a lot to the history of the game, died 2 years out of retirement and is probably the most highly thought (idolized) of player by most active players in the NBA.

Something should be done in memoriam. Name All Star Weekend after him, a trophy, the logo, whatever....again, that isn't knee jerk it is reality.

The NBA and for that matter no professional sport in America has suffered this kind of loss in terms of an all time great in quite some time. Clemente is probably closest example, Dale Earnhardt to a degree for sure.

This is all coming from a Jordan guy btw.

It has everything to do with it.

The Celtics retiring the jersey of Kobe Bryant makes no sense. It’s all because the league is one giant brotherhood of guys who view themselves as being on the same team. It has a lot to do with social grievances that have permeated the sport.

Honor Kobe by playing the game the way he played it and the way it’s meant to be played. The lakers should retire his jersey. I’d name something in the staples center after him.

There’s nothing to save for another time.
