Great team win tonight but those two deserve to be singled out. With the way they defend, if we get offensive production like we saw tonight, RU can make some noise in the big dance.
I thought that was the case – – I was surprised that nobody made a fuss about it.On tv they showed that Mathis should have been credited with a 3-pointer. Instead it was put in the books as a 2.
Tough (almost impossible) to lose when they both score in double figures. This means they both are playing on defensive end
Mulcahy played well tonight.Play them over Mulcahy and McConnell.
Mulcahy played well tonight.
We have needed Mathis or McConnell to step up offensively for a long time. When we have 4-5 guys scoring in double figures and we score 70 points+, then we might be able to win on the road. Playing like tonight makes me confident going into the tournament.
Wrong. He cannot score if he is not on the court. He has been placed on the bench for 10-13 minute stretches for 5-6 games. It seems clear now that we have to play up tempo and get our guys better looks and energizes the defense and rebounding. If anyone has been watching Montez shot from three and foul line it is tremendously improved. He has not been utilized enough. I hope that ends after today.Mathis could never score because he was always on the floor with McConnell and the two as only guards on the court don’t fit together.
Great post - I just singled them out in my game recap - awesome performance by both.Great team win tonight but those two deserve to be singled out. With the way they defend, if we get offensive production like we saw tonight, RU can make some noise in the big dance.

He also had the embarrassing moment
he points at Cowan and trash talks him
gets steal
gets rejected by rim trying to dunk

Looking back to a lot of our big wins this year Caleb has had a footprint in a lot of them. He was a DNP in 2nd half. I get you earn minutes and Caleb has been bad. Caleb and coach need to get on the same page. I believe, as do others on the RU bench (bad to show), the wrong guy is at the bottom of the rotation.
If you’re suggesting that Mulcahy should be at the bottom instead of McConnell, the latter has been a turnover machine and has indeed been bad the past few weeks. He deserves to be exactly where he was last night - on the bench. Mulcahy doesn’t turn the ball over.
That said, we’re going to need Good Caleb if we want to make some noise going forward. He’s been a valuable contributor.
Caleb was beyond awful last night. Absolutely the correct call to not play him. He was just bad the last three games. I wouldn’t even play him on Saturday that is how bad he was last night.Looking back to a lot of our big wins this year Caleb has had a footprint in a lot of them. He was a DNP in 2nd half. Totally disagree. Montez has done everything the coach wants defensively and has had no plays run for him offensively and had to fend for himself on offense. Our half court offense has had droughts especially on the road but Coach never went to Tez to get us the gritty points to stop a run , make a steal and change momentum. Right now I want Tez shooting a 3 whenever he is open, over Akwasi , over Ron and over Geo . That is how hard he has worked on his shooting game as well as his foul shots . We play our best ball when Tez is playing period. He makes a mistake or 2, you take him out for a few minutes but you do not bury him for 10-12 minutes or for the rest of the game. Listen I love Coach more than any fan, but one of his coaching habits that is subject to various opinions is his substitutions and who is on the court . It is a tricky thing when you go 9 deep and not easy to master. We will go further than people think if Montez is playing a lot of minutes and Coach lets the team go more uptempo.I really believe its not that easy. Pike has had to work hard to get Mathis to play within himself and Pike has gained some more trust in Montez. Montez at times has been guilty of trying to do too much and being out of control. Tonight was an example of him just flowing with the game, maybe one bad shot which he actually made.
I think this game was a long time coming. Coach and Mathis have to be overjoyed at this moment
Again , the same thing I have said about Montez, you do not bury Caleb as we need what he can provide, a mid range reliable shot to get us points during droughts, rebounding including offensive rebounding, and defense with length causing a lot of deflections . You take out for a few mistakes and he sits for a few minutes but comes back in . Confidence is really important especially for sophomores. Keeping a kid confident can get him out of his funk sooner . Not playing him Saturday would be the worst coaching move and I am sure Coach has not even thought about your thought. He is probably thinking the next game is the one Caleb breaks out.Caleb was beyond awful last night. Absolutely the correct call to not play him. He was just bad the last three games. Mathis constantly gets beat up with no calls. Really happy for him. Both of them lead the charge. Mathis played his best game this year. All around great D and O. He was getting beat up and fighting through no calls.
Young when in the zone is too fast for anyone to contain. His D seems to be consistently great.
Love it and can’t help but feel good for tez beating on his local team that didn’t recruit him. Great kids.
We don’t need a mid range game. What we absolutely do t need us a guy who is a turnover machine that is not providing anything defensively. We have everything on the line right now and better players ahead of him. This isn’t mid season where you allow guys to figure it out. You go with what is working as he did in the second half. The reason you stick with Mathis is because he is our best defender so that alone gets him more chances. He also is great at getting to the rim as long as he is doing that at the right times. Brad , you have your opinion but I totally disagree. We need all our guys including Caleb , if we are to continue making this magical run this year. You see turnovers and I see all the things you mentioned winning teams do .We don’t need a mid range game. Caleb can’t check any of those boxes right now and he is turning the ball over.
He was terrible and has been terrible. I agree 100%.Caleb was beyond awful last night. Absolutely the correct call to not play him. He was just bad the last three games. I wouldn’t even play him on Saturday that is how bad he was last night.
