WTF is wrong with Colin Kaepernick?

The Niners offense is one of the absolute worst scoring offenses I have ever seen in the NFL. Every possession is like pulling teeth and third downs are disasterous. How can a team with Kaepernick, Vernon Davis, Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin, Frank Gore, and Carlos Hyde suck this damn bad? Is Greg Roman really Woody McCorvey in disguise? What gives?

He's regressed. I think the "Harbaugh is gone" talk has pretty much killed that clubhouse, and they're just going through the motions at this point.

It's a couple of things. One is definitely Greg Roman because the idiot can't stick with a style of offense. Are they spread? Power run? West Coast? It changes every week and I really hope if Harbaugh stays that he cans the idiot. The other is the offensive line has been atrocious which is surprising with the talent that's there. The last two seasons they were one of the best lines in the NFL and all of a sudden they turned.

Bingo on the offense remarks. Whatever offense they run that week, the #1 goal seems to keep Kaep upright and minimize his hits. Unfortunately he cannot beat you from the pocket alone so it stagnates the offense. Because of injury risks, I have to assume they don't want him running the read option at all. I wish they would run the wheels of him and burn the tread while there is plenty on the tires. He's not a 15 year type QB.

And the OLine has gotten real old, real quick. They get slower each week.

Well it all turned on Kaep when defenses started to hit him every read option play regardless of who got the ball. Seemed like the defenses went for a hard shot every play instead of following the hand off. I figured more college defenses would take this same approach.

You are being generous when you say Roman changes week/week. He changes series to series. It is completely ********. I do think that Harbaugh has tried to take a part of that away and tried to become part of the offensive 'huddle' but I think that only muddied the waters this year.

I predict that if it became a widespread tactic, refs would be instructed to start flagging it.

The zone read is designed to trick defenders on where the ball is going. I don't think you could flag a defender for being "tricked"

This 9ers team is not very mentally strong. The only leaders they have are on defense. I will say this first. If they let Harbaugh walk, they are beyond stupid and we could very well be a crap team again for a decade. The BS talk of Harbaugh losing the locker is complete ****. If you are a player that went through the 10 years of 49er football before Jim Harbaugh and you do not like to win the way you have under him, I do not want you on my team. That is a completely idiot sentiment.

There are some players they need to let walk.

Crabtree has been a problem and has never been the top level player since he got there. He has shown glimpses but too many injuries and too much of a headcase.

Vernon Davis is a complete blocking liability and you cannot have that in (what should be) a power running team. Combine that with the fact that he has yet to learn to catch with his hands and is good for 20 BAD drops per year. Let him go.

Iupati. Very good guard but not the player he was in his first 1 1/2 seasons. He misses a LOT of blocks to be paid like the #1 guard in the NFL, which is what he will require to retain.

I thought Anthony Davis was expendable until I saw us play this year without him. I actually think his contract isn't so bad anymore.

Injuries killed this team. Along with Aldon Smith's suspension. The fact that this team even sniffed the playoffs (and actually should be in except for the 3 bad losses) is beyond comprehension. We played most of the 2nd half Sunday with a practice team player playing mike LB, RB and TE. Borland is a very good player. But, imagine if he was backing up Willis/Bowman... I know that they are part of the game but no normal team with these injuries would have been close. The starting CBs played less than half the season. It just adds up.

But, letting Harbaugh get away will be a decision that this franchise will regret. York I ruined it the first time letting Mariucci go because he was just positive he could do better.

If they let Harbaugh go, they deserve what they get. He's got a ton of value. I expect them get draft picks from the Raiders for him.

I believe the second the quarterback is reading the defense in a read option scenario, they are technically a running back and can be hit like any other player on the field. So why flag it if they are in fact classified as a running back.

But they are going to and that is an absolute travesty. Baalke to me is a complete Monet. He has done some good things but has allowed this team to get very old, very quick in some spots. The whole redshirt drafting he is doing is great if it works, is a disaster if it doesn't. in the NFL, you do not have enough spots to allow guys to redshirt. The Lattimore and Carradine picks are proving to be worthless. Except that they aren't worthless. They are worse than worthless because you have been holding 2 spots for 2 years for them. The Lattimore pick yesterday caused you to be playing a practice squad player on a key 4th and 1 where you were forced to give it to a FB again.

1. 49ers will have a new Coach next yr. done deal. will be interesting if he goes to the Raiders or Mich.
2. Kap is not a drop back passer cannot make reads and now the Ds are keeping him in the pocket, so can't do the job. Also, not sure he has the brain power to play QB.
3. OL is not very strong and so the running game which powered the team is hurting the passing game.
4. Team is actually still young but needs some speed at the WR spots

A couple of yrs and more Dawgs on the Raider team and they will be better.

I heard an interesting discussion of read option quarterbacks in the NFL. The gist was basically that the defenses quickly adjust and shut it down. They talked a lot about RG3 and Kap, both of whom started out as unstoppable but now seem more unstartable. I will say that Kap beat Wilson in fantasy points yesterday. No help for me, who already dropped Kap and was playing Wilson.

Pretty simple, it's this.

What made the 49ers offense good w/ Kap in the 1st place is using designed QB runs or the threat of them as a focal point of their offense. The 49ers are trying to turn Kaepernick into strictly a pocket passer, and he's never been and is not going to be elite in that role.

Same goes for Newton, RGIII, and most of the spread QB's to an extent in the NFL. A huge reason that they were successful is b/c the designed QB run was always a threat, which opens everything else up. How effective do you think Dak would be if all designed QB runs and running him 20 times a game were taken out of our offense?

If you have QB's like this, you have to let them do what makes them good, not try to make them into something they're not

I didn't think you could flag a defender for hitting a QB in the chest either, but they sure as hell called it on Sunday. Sorry... that was just one of the most bogus flags that I've seen in the last 2-3 years of many questionable calls. Hochuli deserves to be suspended for it

Yep. The Lattimore pick was an absolute disaster, and he and Tank are actually just a couple of examples from the last few years of the redshirt drafting mentality that you mentioned. The Niners had a TON of draft picks during the last two drafts, and I think they made a big mistake by not utilizing them to move up in the draft in order to get the guys that they really wanted. Wasn't Reid the only one that they moved up for and surprise, surprise... he's one of the few bright spots that they've landed.

Yep. Exactly. They spent what 12/13 picks this past year in a draft that was lauded by EVERYONE as not being that deep. They scored a HUGE get in Hyde but they did nothing to deserve it. He just happened to fall to them. Should have bundled up the picks well before the draft to have gotten depth in DB or OL. Could have moved up in the first round and gotten the DB from VaTech that is starring for the bears. They sat there and goofed around with Boone, let his situation create drama and then signed him. So, you ended up with the same player but he was behind the learning curve. Then, with the OL injuries that occurred early in the season, there was no continuity. That helped create the offensive disaster that was (outside of the bipolar-ness of Roman).

The '14 class has some guys that are giving some good minutes but I just do not know that any of them will be 'studs'. More like great 2nd string players. Like Borland, Johnson and Lynch.

The '13 class is abysmal. I didn't even remember how bad until I looked it up. Eric Reid is the only one worth anything so far. Vance McDonald is a huge bust for a 2nd round pick. And, we have drafted rush ends in like 4 of the last 5 drafts.

1(18). Eric Reid, Safety, LSU
2(40). Cornellius "Tank" Carradine, Defensive End, Florida State
2(55). Vance McDonald, Tight End, Rice
3(88). Corey Lemonier, Outside Linebacker, Auburn
4(128). Quinton Patton, Wide Receiver, Louisiana Tech
4(131). Marcus Lattimore, Running Back, South Carolina
5(157). Quinton Dial, Defensive Lineman, Alabama
6(180). Nick Moody, Linebacker, Florida State
7(237). B.J. Daniels, Quarterback, South Florida
7(246). Carter Bykowski, Offensive Tackle, Iowa State
7(252). Marcus Cooper, Defensive Back, Rutgers

I definitely do not think he is capable of what all that they ask of him

I think he is a great player. I think the problems began when they went from 'hey, you are a very talented guy. Go run around and play football out there' TO trying to explain all of the offense to him and tried to get him to make reads before the play and then work with coverages and schemes. I think he is definitely overwhelmed.
