Murray's goodbye presser. Canada spoiled it early, just like Canada spoils everything.

I'm usually upbeat about all decisions made by UK basketball, but this is dumb.. Don't need a "special presser" for every kid.. c'mon.. I'll be taking my talents to...... blah

I really hope this doesn't indicate anything and I have no reason to believe it does, but this is the first one I can remember that Cal was not at. Am I wrong on that?

I'm gonna have to agree with this and most of the posts in the thread. Happy for him but kind of tone deaf for UK to announce a "special announcement" for a player leaving who was a no-brainer. At least announce that it's a "special announcement relating to Jamal Murray" so we are aware of it. Save the top secret stuff for a surprise or least a multi-player announcement.

I mean, don't watch. You know what's going on. The kids deserve to announce their decision if they want.

Instead of sitting here refreshing in the middle of the work day and discussing it, let your actions reflect your "who cares" attitude.
We all care. It's the hype machine making us all think there was something new to announce other than the obvious decision of a certain player entering the draft. That's what aggravates myself and many others. I'm glad for the kid and feel good for him.

Yeah but it isn't UK's place to spoil Jamal's moment so that our fans aren't disappointed. It isn't about us. He wanted to announce and say his farewell to fans on his terms and he has that right.

It's not like it hurts anything. Basically no one expected anything of substance anyway.

"Top secret"??? Who said it was top secret? Jamal said he wanted to make the announcement himself. But, you should contact UK and let them know how to handle PR.

I would think a kid announcing he gets to live his dream would fall under the "special" category but I guess since it doesn't benefit you or some of the other fans complaining about it, it's a waste of time or meaningless.

True - my frustration is my own fault for allowing myself to think it may have been some exciting, surprising news. Not fair to Jamal.
I did feel the same way. Anticipating something besides a player announcement. I didn't think it would be much though considering Cal is in Houston.

Cal is in Houston. I know the man is living, breathing, walking, talking badass, but even John Vincent Calipari can't be in two places at once.

I see your point. But, is ruining his moment to label the presser a "player announcement" and leave it at that? Does it have to be an absolute total secret surprise? UK and everyone else knows going in how the fanbase is.

Again, it isn't their responsibility to protect adults from their own misguided expectations and sense of entitlement.

Go read the threads with people speculating. No one thought it was anything important. This is actually more newsworthy because we get to hear Jamal talk about his experience here. That's interesting to me, and better than some new partnership between Rupp and a popcorn company.

I certainly thought it would be about a player announcing and not about Rupp Arena renovations.

I dont see how getting UK back in the spotlight the weekend of the Final Four with several recruits still trying to decide could ever be considered a bad thing let alone begrudge Murray his moment. Keep our brand front and center every chance we get. Yes, we all knew he was going, the pundits knew he was going but later on Sportscenter there will be another free UK infomercial while the majority of other teams not in the dance have long since been forgotten.

I thought it was a nice display, especially the long hug between he and his father. That kind of stuff is special and I'm incredibly happy for the young man. He gave us his all this year (I shudder to even think about how things might have ended up had he not committed to us and improved over the course of the season as much as he did) and by God if he wanted to have his own presser? He deserved it. Congratulations Jamal! I hope you have a long, wonderful career in the league.

What if my car broke. And then my wife and I waited months before we decided to "fix it" and then all of a suden i gathered all my closest friends and family bc me and my wife had a "special announcement." Most people would assume we were having a kid or something crazy bc we gathered everyone because everyone knew all along i was getting a new car eventually. But then we didnt have a kid and we actually bought a guinea pig.... And I dont know what im saying.

Congrats Jamal. Live your dreams buddy.

Yeah I probably deserved that. Jamal deserves his moment obviously. Like I said, I let my frustration for getting my hopes up on a player to be returning or maybe some Rupp renovation news cloud my judgment. I think I'm also still bitter we have to wait months til the next game to be honest.

This is ridiculous. It's BS and mishandled on UK's part calling this a special announcement to get fans interested. This isn't a special announcement. At this part it's no more than a common announcement around here.

Fans did not need nor want a presser just to hear Jamal say he's leaving. This type of junk is wearing extremely thin on me. If you're bringing home titles then have a press conference to announce you're going pro while doing a naked backflip for all I care. But when you can't even beat Indiana and make a sweet 16 then you haven't earned it, especially after one year. Now, if Alex had one just to state how he's enjoyed his time and the fans here plus he's leaving it would be good but Jamal isn't Alex. I mean everyone in the entire world knew he was leaving. Also like I said after the IU loss when people were saying he loved UK so much and that he might possibly come back, give him a week or so and those tears will be dried up and all he'll see is those dollar signs.

I just can't believe that UK called for a presser and stated its a "Special Announcement" for something we all knew was happening plus happens every single year. Very misleading. I think most fans would take special announcement as being something good for the school or team.
